  • what about the intro?:(

  • you look like Freddie Wongs older brother :D

  • Warren, you are a fucking beast man!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you play it in Standard Tuning or in a Different way?

  • Making love is important and make sure it's there

  • Thanks a lot !

    nice voice :D

  • veryy gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodddddd thanks my firend!!!

  • bang goes my string... thanks warren :)

  • How do you pick the verse? I can hear all of the melody notes, but I have a hard time "picking" out the noodling in between the melody notes.

  • Please could make a tutorial of "Go to sleep"!

  • Warren you are excellent

  • fucking warren you never stop surprising me, rite nao im playing this sweetie thanx to you

    greetings from mexico city

  • Sir Warren, I love your tutorials

  • i originally looked up the tab for there there and it was mostly right except it was all in standard tuning and i could tell from looking at thom yorke playing it acoustic live that it wasn't right so i looked for covers to see what people were doing and the first one was yours and your tutorial sounds exactly like it. you're amazing. <3

  • thank god i discovered you, i can now start learning to play one of my favourites :)

  • thank god i discovered you, i can now start learning to play one of my favourites :)

  • Hey Warren, just saw a live version of "there there" and i think Thoms struming rhythm is different, let me know your thoughts?

Also any chance you could do a Cover/Tutorial of R.H.C.P - "Under the Bridge". The acoustic version is class.

    Many Thanks

    Tadhg

  • Thanks for doing RH always!!! Love... totally subscribing.

  • you're an artist man, this was really helpful,my respect from greece

  • man this is way beyond me...

  • I've been searching for hours to find someone who actually has respect for the right tuning. You have real ears. Thank you so much.

  • Hey Warren--

Just wanted to know if you still gathering for a new guitar.

    Been learning lots from you.

    Thanks and keep on trucking

  • @agaveshots No, it's finished now. I have the new guitar!

  • You're great!

  • THANK YOU.I'VE GOT PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING BUT THE LAST PART SINCE THE "WHY SO GREEN AND LONELY" PART ONWARDS. ONE OF THE FAVORITES. WEIRD FISHES WOULD BE JUST GREAT FOR ACOUSTIC.

  • Comment removed

  • what a great job with this great song. thanks

  • I don't understand the point of tuning the "A string" to B. It sounds fine in Drop D.

  • @yasseford Can't play the final section without uptuning A to B. Need that minor third between the 5th and 4th strings. Check out the video this was uploaded in response to.

  • You make this look almost as easy as Thom does. Really love your videos. Thanks a bunch dude.

  • Hi, I'd like to ask two maybe pedant questions but I think they are interesting, firstly does Thom that thing on the g string (that part you suggest to figure out by ear) too? And second one, in part three do you use you pinky finger to mute some string? Because I see it quite close to the fretboard, my pinkie flies in the air when I play this part (yeah it's wrong I know :D). Thank you much, regards from Czech Republic! Great tutorial

  • @boycalledtrash Thom does the G-string thing on the live acoustic version I posted this tutorial in response to... it's linked here. In part three, my pinkie doesn't really do any muting but it's fine if it does... it wouldn't change the sound at all. I take care of the muting with my left palm/index.

  • Warren these tutorials are AMAZING! I can now play There There, Jigsaw, and Reckoner which are possibly my favourite songs ever! You make playing them surprisingly easier than I thought they would be. Thank you so much. You are a GOD!

  • @Absalamad87 This makes me happy.

  • wooow, this cover is awesome. and thom yorke must be quite godly to make it

  • Except for the last part of the song, all chords can be done without the special tuning that you've wonderfully figured out. Thanks for taking this necessarily job.

  • @betoperdido Yes, the voicings would be slightly different here and there throughout, but for the sake of accuracy and to get the full effect and ending, DBDGBE is the way.

  • Very awesome, you are good. Maybe play some of the other more easier songs ?

  • @Joormode Which songs are you thinking of? No Radiohead song is truly easy.

  • @warrenmusic scatterbrain

  • Warren this tutorial is AWESOME. The only thing that confuses me a little is the second part of the verse at 3:10, the strumming seems a little different. Could you please explain it in a few words, i mean like DU_U_U, you kow.

    Keep up the good work

  • @dhorifigura I just added a few downstrums... it's not exact, but the basic strum pattern is D _ D _ D U _ U _ U _ U _ U _ U D U. At 3:10 I added a few downstrums in between all those ups, don't know why.

  • @warrenmusic Thanks for your answer, it really helped. :)

  • warren may put the tuning of guitar in the caption please?

    ps: thanks for amazing tutorial

    greatings from Chile!

    :)

  • @alvariito Done.

  • Hey I just wanted to say thankyou so much for this tutorial Warren. It's as if Thom himself is teaching us to play his song.. well maybe not quite.. If Thom opened with "Heey Y'alll It's Thom" he probably wouldn't lose any veiwers.. haha jk... he'd lose tons of veiwers.

Really though.. you are a great person in my book.. no matter what you've done.. or plan to do... or even thought about doing.. I forgive you in advance.

  • wonderful. thank you very much

  • Excellent job. thanks.

  • bravo,grande!

  • you're awesome

  • in the beginning their is an interesting pattern, could u explain that? you didnt cover it.

  • You're fantastic! And a great teacher! Thank you!

  • Thom does it differently every time. <---- Agree!!! :)

    it's help alots....thx Warren

  • GREAT TUTORIAL MAN

  • you make it so easy to learn :)

    thankyou very much

  • bro,

still cracking me up. I was just out in sac and san fran. We went through San Jose. Next time I will hit you up. Buy ya a beer ya little willy nut.. :)

    sounds good

  • Dude, I don't even have my guitar yet, And I love watching this video.

  • Hey man, great tutorial, I can finally play the whole song accurate! One thing though, at the ending, I'd rather play the part that Jonny plays (you know, the ringing notes and distortion stuff). The problem isn't that I don't know the tabs, but I just don't know what effects he uses! Is it just distortion or is there also a Wah Wah pedal involved?

    Hope you can help me...

  • @mousti00 i wanted to find out the same thing and i cant find it anywhere :'(

  • Men, thanks for the song I mean i was traying to play this song since i Had a Guitar, but i really dont understand the last tabs you know the last chord or line so i was thinking if you can write to me the last chord please i just need that

thanks you man and congratulations =)

  • i been doing this all mornin with ya, cheers duck!!

  • keep on makin love sugar!!

  • Im a beginner , and i know this is probably not for beginners but all the other videos for teaching "there there" Arent very good..Sorry but whats all this "5 x zero 4" ???

  • The numbers refer to frets in order from 6th string (thickest) to 1st string (thinnest). X means you mute it or don't play it. 0 means open string. It's a standard way of notating chord shapes... not the best way, but it's effective. It's called tablature, or tab for short. There are lots of tabs out there on the web.

  • Great! Thanks so much man!

  • I had a GREAT time with your video!!!!

  • great job man

  • Warren IS the best, great job man and thank you!!!!

  • awesome video...

  • You are genuinely insane but that was class

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial, Warren!! This is also one of my favorite songs, and the first one I tried to learn through YouTube. You are a very good teacher, I learned to play and sing this song in less than a half hour.

  • I've seen your Radiohead work on youtube, you're very popular. Sometimes I feel yu're going to fast teaching us the songs. Anyway, I'd like to learn how to play Optimistic and this is the only way I can ask you. I'm a big fan of Radiohead, I've learned Paranoid Android with your three parts tutorial, very nice job. Please, Optimistic, please. Greetings from Mexico. Is there any posibility that you can play Down Is The New Up for guitar?.

  • Tnx! this is one of my favourite by Radiohead!

  • Wow, this is insane... How on earth do you figure out these tunings? You must be a genius! Is this how the guitar on the album version is tuned by the way? I can play this on the guitar in normal tuning, and that sounds ok... I have heard (and seen) the Le Reservoir version of this where Thom appears to be playing a different way to how I play it though (obviously my way is wrong). Help me Warren!

  • @MrJaffaCakes This is how the album one is tuned as well. You can play most of the song in standard if you want, but it won't work when you get to the ending section ("why so green"). 5th and 4th strings have to be a minor third like I am showing. The tuning is the same one Thom is using in Le Reservoir as well (hence, both that and the album are the same tuning).

  • Yeah, you're right! That's what I found when trying to play it! I'd reach that bit and just sort of be like "... Oh." I'd have to switch to Jonny's part there (not that I'm complaining). Cheers Warren, you're a hero.

  • hi warren just a quick thx for all your tutorials. massive thom fan my self. your there there cover was awesome, cant stop playing it!. saw radiohead this summer at festival over here in good old blighty. you do them justice old boy!

  • How do i do to tune the A to a B?

Like when u tune E to D that you play the 7th on the 6thstring till it matches the open 5th string

  • @Mattias182 Tune it up a whole step, but be careful (string might pop because it's not meant to be tighter than A). You can match it to the open 2B string, but keep in mind that the second string will be an octave higher).

  • Thanks, though i find out u gotta make sound the 5th string like the 6th on the 9th fret(D).

  • @Mattias182 Yeah that's a good way as well. Thanks for watching!

  • you are welcome, and thanks for the vids, i learn so much faster with ur vids, though in this one i would have like if you explain the intro a little more. but still, thanks.

  • i actually can't believe how wrong the book is! Your version is so much better, thanks for uploading dude. You should do the song book for the next album! ha. x

  • @reckonermk1 If you know whoever has the rights to it, tell them to hire me! I'd love to do it!

  • tnx

  • SALUDOS DESDE PERU!!!!!

  • Amazing, man!

  • thank you, master!

  • great job! thanks for posting this! it's perfect!! any tabs i found didn't sound right.

  • i love when he says "this is a B now"

  • thanks to you, i can now play my two favourite radiohead songs. i love you.

  • Man, its the little detail that makes all the difference like tuning the a string up to b!! For me the missing ingredient. Thanks, your a legend.

  • Ownage dude! Picked most up it up in half hour but the guitar sounds sick. Thanks :)

  • ur the best daaawwgs

  • man i thought i could play this song... how wrong i was... great vid here man... i just kinda figured out a version of it in standard tuning but it doesn't sound half as good as this... cheer man

  • great tutorial mate. great skills and very well explained. Do you know the chords that thom play in "knives out" from the same performance. Ive searched all the web and I cant find them. And Im not that good to figure them out by myself. thanks

  • This is the best (and only) tutorial for this difficult song. Thanks to Warrenmusic I can now play it and impress friends :P

Thank you sir!!! it's was wonderful from you to make this video, greetings from Chile!

  • Great work. I learned this whole song (mostly) from this video in about 20 mins. Still working on the picking for the intro and singing while playing what you refer to as the '3rd section'. Great though man seriously!

  • this is great! I like it that you do not explain EVERYTHING so one still can find out on one's own! It's great! I thought I could never play this song but you taught me that I can ;)

    Thanks! 5 stars!

  • You da best!

  • You're the best!

  • can you teach the solo from jonny greenwood?

  • Matigrinberg, if you can play that solo it means you are so good that you can work it out on your own! ;o)

  • I don't understand your point. Did you mean "now" instead of "know"? whatever dude, my message was for this tutorial's author not for you.

  • i meant now-........but as iasked warren to teach the solo you first response was directed to me

  • Warren your tutorials are genuinely some of the best on youtube! Thank you very much!

  • neat doing it with the different tuning, though it wouldnt surprise me if that's how thom does it. I've always done it in drop d with the main chord as x20202

  • check out the performance this is inspired by, it is most def. this tuning. thanks for watching!

  • haha the spontaneous singing is funny

  • great vid dude!!

slash really nice guitar! i love the sounds you can get out of it!

    keep up the good work

    =D

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

  • Very nice job, but one thing...you didn't go over the picking pattern at the beginning of the song.

  • Hey guys, I know many of you have requested that I go over the picking pattern in the beginning of the song... I don't think I really should because Thom does it differently every time. Not only that, but it will be good practice for you who are learning to train your ears... The chord shape doesn't really change so just give it your best shot. I don't mean to be a withholding jerk, but I hope you guys (and girls) will see it as a challenge that will make you a stronger guitarist.

  • You're so cool! Got it all in one view! Not hard at all...

  • excellent lesson, Warren.

Ultimate Guitar has no correct version of this song. You are the MAN!

  • Hey Warren,

For me the trickiest part of this song is leaving the last series of chords in three measures and going back up to the 9th fret to do it again in correct time...how do you count it out in your head...Sorry I do not read music so my ear is all I got to rely on...

    Tutorial rocks!

  • That's a nice sounding guitar.

  • i was hoping that you would cover this song that was FantASTIC!!!

this is of one of my favorite songs from

    RADIOHEAD

    PROPS!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's cool how Thom recycles himself and it doesn't really show that much. This and Jigsaw Falling into Place are almost the same songs. Good Job, Thom!! Oh, and good job, Warren; very didactic.

  • well done pal... well done...

  • good job. that shit is spot on. cheers.

  • Really nice... cheers warren for all your tutorials! There There Great!! WHAT GUITAR U GOT?? Sounds nice?

  • good job dude .

  • i have the same questions as Conacostock

  • nice...very nice

  • this is so awsome, thank you man

  • Finally, during the part where you're like 1-2-1-1-2 etc, during the '1' are you supposed to do strike just string 6 or are you hitting string 5 open with it or what? Then for part 2, are you just striking the two mashed strings (4 and 5) or are any others being hit also. That's it really. Thanks.

  • I was curious as to the picking pattern in the song's beginning before the vocals come in because you don't go over that. Another question about the video is when you are doing those up strums up the fretboard on the g string, are you supposed to pick just that string, the bottom three, or what?

  • Warren, thanks for making and posting these videos. I have learned many a Radiohead song from thou, including House of Cards, Nude, and True Love Waits in their entireties, however I am not that good and with a little practice those three were not too hard to learn. Right now, I am working hard on There There, but unlike your other videos, there are a couple of unclear points in the tutorial for me, so I must ask for your help in understanding them. Read next comment for the questions.

  • haven't gotten far but you seem to x the a string raised to b alot...why not play the opening chord has x20202?

  • that's the way Thomas Edward plays it

  • you'll find out when you get to the last section. (there's no other way to play parallel minor thirds on the 4th and 5th strings unless you uptune the A string or downtune the D string by a whole step, and we know he doesn't downtune the D because of all the times you hear it strummed on open chords)

  • ok Warren i get most things you do but just cant get the final part. I think you need to do a vid just on that , please!

  • you are the shit.

i wonder if there is a way of doing this with conventional tuning, or if that would make it overly complicated.

  • you would have to simplify it, but it could be done. listen to the chords i mention (Bm, A, G) and look up traditional shapes.

but if you ask me, it's rare that another way of playing a riff will be as satisfying as emulating what you know the original guitarist is playing, if the original was good.

  • The tune is DBDGBE??

    Wow, little strange xD

Thanks for the lesson man :)

  • youre just fucking kissass man, i saw ur videos and i though this is what i was looking for, thanks a lot man!!! from mexico, ur friend ivan mariano.

i just "discovered" this song (a shame i didn´t earlier). It´s gotten one of my top Radiohead songs. I especially like the 3rd part as you called it.

thanks to you i can now play it. Keep up the good work.

  • looks right

  • thank you!

  • perfect tutorial man, thanks a lot!

  • man you should tab this, that would be amazing. I would be able to learn this so fast from you.

  • Cheers Warren, been wanting to learn this song for a long time now and I just got it sorted thanks to you.

    Keep it up.

  • alt tuning, thats why it hasn't been right....

    :O

  • you re the best. how long have ypu been playing? teach android paranoid if you dont mind

  • can u type the tuning??

  • Thank you! Happy New Year!

  • Wow. Thanks a lot dude I have been trying to learn this song forever.

    Kudos and props!

  • Israel kamakowiwo! jaajajaaa! joke... good job man and thanks!

  • i salute you sir!

  • please add jonny's partt too

  • Freaking Awesome tutorial!! I learned the entire song from this. Thom Yorke would be very proud

  • wow great job thats perfect!

during part three where you "mash" your fingers, is there anything your doing with your pinky?

    thanks

  • dude, this song is soooo much easier to play in standard.... some of your positions just don't need to be like that! especially the chorus....sounds good, though!

  • yikes... i'm sorry to say, on the contrary, the positions do need to be like that! thom most definitely plays it this way, and there is no other way the ending section would work without the minor 3rd interval between the 4th and 5th strings, not to mention the low D you can hear in many of the chord transitions.

but alas, your attachment to standard is understandable! i know many who don't see the need or desire to venture out. thanks for watching...

  • Yes..you´re right...THe way you teach how to play the song is the right one....

I watched Tom playing it acousticly at le reservoir, Paris...and it´s exactly the same...

Thanks...for the tutorial...( SOrry for my bad english, I'm from Ecuador XD )...ANd..can you give me some advice?...I´m trying to gather some friends to make a Band to play Radiohead songs...and well..we dont kno how to start XD....GOD BLESS YOU...BYE...

  • Okay, so I have to ask, how do you figure all these radio head songs out?I have been playing for quite some time now, and consider myself to have a pretty good ear for music, but have the hardest time figuring their stuff out. (that is until I watched these..)

Also, do you know Paranoid Android? That will always be my fav. to play.
