@CaliFlyz That's what capoeira is.. A mix of martial arts and dance. It originated from slaves who were unable to be seen fighting, but they wanted to learn to defend themselves so they disguised it as a dance. It mostly uses movements involving the legs because their hands would have been bound together.
I know you all like this capoeira with white pants and drawstring waist. You like to see jumps. But that is capoeira "for the gringo to see", as we say in Brazil. ("gringo" it's a slang. It means foreigner). It's show. It's capoeira regional. There are two types of capoeira: ANGOLA and REGIONAL. The practitioner of capoeira can jump. But the jumps do not define capoeira. Capoeira is a game of strategy, intelligence and vitality, strength.
This is beautiful. By the way, it's not gay that I say this as a male. Learn to appreciate true art, instead of that booty jiggling hip hop dancing in America. That's just sick....
well what you all need to understand is that non-Blacks are trying to steal the art from Black people... and their interpretation is not the same as it's founder/creators.. If you go to Angola then You will see how powerful this Art can be. I have seen it myself.. It's guarded and they don't show everyone
its fascinating to watch.. but then if you are hit by those kicks.. just say hi to the doctor.. its too fascinating to watch.. so i can say that it is a dance.. a dance that can kick my ass hahaha
I don't think CAPOEIRA should be considered as martial arts...more like performing arts. It performs better than most martial arts, but in reality, you probably get yours ass kicked for using it...lol!
@SpeakingMyMind7 it was created by the slaves and since they were watched 24/7 thru dancing was the only way they could avoid the master to see that they were developing a martial art and i believe there are 2 types of capoeira.
@Rockdancer1 it doesn't matter mate. i couldnt do a handstand and i'v taken 3 lessons and now i can! you'l be supprised wat you can do after a little bit of conditioning
@Rockdancer1 look up how to jinga in youtube it will get ya started ive been doin it for like 2-3 years still am kind of sloppy =p but it takes many years like kung fu or any other type of fighting style just rember its all about taking things slow and at a steady beat
@HuskerDudee-It's original composition by Tote Gira for this piece. if you google him you might find it, but your best bet is to catch on of Dance Brazil's shows and buy his CD's.
Excellent demonstration, unfortunate that most people think capoeira originated in brazil, it was actually first seen in Tanzanian tribes, whoever it's style suites samba music much more naturally which is why it took of in brazil. It was originally developed purely for entertainment purposes as dance but during civil conflict martial elements where adopted for combat as capoeira is extremely difficult to read as a fighting style..
@8455lewis Capoeira was born in Tanzania? Sorry, man, but you're wrong. The africans at the Brazilian land improved their abilitie of fighting. Of course this was not good for the Elit, so they had to pretend they're just singing and dancing. That's where the music and the dance in Capoeira come from.

hello. I am a student of taetro. congratulations on the performance. one may try to create one also of capoeira, but people had no professionals. impress me much as you can get to do with effort, dedicated and skilled people, many congratulations
capoeira is better than karate,i was about to learn but it didn't workout because i ended up not having time for it because of my job and school, but i love this sport, and capoeira is more about defense, although some of the defense could easely break somebody's neck or any limbs if they really wanted to,capoeira !(i'm brazilian)
@MAXMARTINS10 defense? defense?! Mate, are you sure you are talking about capoeira? It's one of the few martial arts where, besides some evading moves, there is NO defense.

Not a good choice for self defence but yes it can work sometimes, especially if mixed with other MAs. However capoeira is not all about fighting and I wish people would appretiate it for what it is instead of arguing that its not a MA at all or trying to convince others that it a megatastic MA though never experiencing a real fight in their lives. Sadly, most people have one of the two views.
