  • Hi William Trubridge here I don't know if you guys know me or not but I can hold my breath for 7 and a half min and I used this trick and got to 4 min when I was younger It really works keep doing this till you get more advanced

    the key is to gently exhale when your descending. Your lungs work as a balloon. If they are completely full you will be positively buoyant and will keep floating back up. You need to release some of that air, until you feel yourself slowly sinking. Once this happens, stop exhaling. Remember to do this very gently so you have a lot of air to use up at the bottom. Hope this helped.

  • I can hold my breath for 3 minutes while sitting comfortable in my chair. In the water, while moving about..not so much.

  • I held my breath for 4:25 seconds on my first try when doing my freediving course. Key was a 4 minute breath-up, belly breathing. Everybody else in the course also got over 3 minutes on their first try.

  • I have smoked for 7 years and was able to hold my breath for 01'32"32, and I am thinking about getting the "Expand a Lung". I will be joining the Navy soon and wanted to be a navy diver, I also wanted to know your thoughts about the "Expand a Lung" and if you think it works? Thanks P.S. Just quit today.

  • this exercise helps indeed, but if you really want to improve your lung capacity then i suggest you begin track and field..... since i started training (6 months ago) my static apnea from 1:45 - 1:53 went to 2:15 ... and i haven't made any breath-hold exercises like this or dived for about a year...

  • 2 minute and 11 seconds. Damn... I could hold my breath a lot longer... I smoke more than a pack of cigarettes a day. Before, I could hold my breath for 2 minutes and 46 seconds or 2 minutes 57 under water, in that whole pressure.

    I'll come back and write the results after a month.

  • @TheShaunRyan I'm don't know anything about surfing, but I do know that if you can stay "that" relaxed while being thrashed around you will decrease your chances of being injured. When people know they are about to be injured (like right before a car accident) they tend to tense up but in reality if you body is totally relaxed you are less likely to break bones, etc. In a big wave, being relaxed will help you stay under longer and make you less likely to get hurt.

  • hey i play the tuba and i can hold my breath for about 2min forty seconds. one the best things i have found is stretching your lungs and doing deep breathing but all i do is relax and stay still so i am looking forward to mobing around for this.

  • I think the whole key is staying relaxed in the water. I think when most people jump into the water they flip out at not being able to breath. This is the absolute opposite of what you need to do. LoL. It's funny what the natural human instincts can do.

  • @StreamingKnowledge I don't know if it's natural. My mother took me to a baby swimming class and infants take to the wather quite naturally. We learn to freak out later. :)

  • @StreamingKnowledge i can hold my breath and dive like 15 meters at least it is actually easy you have to relax but one think you have to dive so water will smash your face and when that happens your heart beat 25% slower and that will make your lung breaths slower :)

  • @IIxSHOOTZxII Funny comment, but it's impossible to kill yourself by holding your breath. You pass out and then unless you're underwater your body automatically restarts breathing.

    I started breathholding last week and now i'm on 2:30 but my diaphragm starts moving at approx. 1.10-1.30 and then I find it very hard to relax..

    is it possible to control the movements of your diaphragm with meditation??
