I'm reading this book right now; I've also read the Twilight series and I must say that in comparison, Dracula is most definitely better written. However, I don't necessarily HATE the Twilight series. I admit that the movies are awful and that Meyer more or less turned vampires into fairies. Still, I enjoyed reading them. Nevertheless Dracula wins in my opinion.

I find this film very flawed. The first half is great,but the second half gets boring and kinda confusing,to me anyway. Frankenstein is near perfect when compared to Dracula.

They used very skillful lighting, psychology, charismatic personalities (like BL) and the expertise of others with names we'll never know, to create a universal image horror. It's an image that those who've never heard of the actors can identify at a glance. Only time will tell if the beloved images of today will last as long.
When you say Draculla in my head pops Bela Lugosi's image.Garry Oldman was good too,but in the new version the focus was on the love story,when you see Mr Lugosi's sparcling eyes you know he's comming from the shadows,for blood.

this is the pivotal vampire movie. Why? Because everyone compares all others to this movie. Either “I based my Dracula off of Bella’s” or “I was avoiding the traditional portrayal of Dracula…”
I would say though that Dracula is the ultimate movie because it really is a legitimate movie version of the novel, while Nosferatu wasn't allowed to do it. To me, they're just different movies really, but Bela is sooo awesome here, he pretty much defined the image of Dracula up until today. If you actually think about it, the image of Dracula you probably have is from Bela's, not from Nosferatu :)

What I didn't actually like about Lugosi's Dracula is that he didn't use physical attack, but his abilities. The Christopher Lee Dracula didn't count on that. That's just me.

@wonderjosey18 For 1931 this movie was dripping in sex. It also scared the hell out of people back then. Isn't that a scream? I mean, I love this movie, but the way we're all so de-sensitized about death, bloodshed, sex, etc. it just isn't shocking in 2010 in any way. Kind of a shame when you get right down to it.

Thrillers made in the early sound era such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and I'd also suggest the '32 version of Jekyll & Hyde as well as 'Freaks' were all about atmosphere. They used very skillful lighting, psychology, charismatic personalities (like BL) and the expertise of others with names we'll never know, to create a universal image horror. It's an image that those who've never heard of the actors can identify at a glance. Only time will tell if the beloved images of today will last as long.

When you say Draculla in my head pops Bela Lugosi's image.Garry Oldman was good too,but in the new version the focus was on the love story,when you see Mr Lugosi's sparcling eyes you know he's comming from the shadows,for blood.
Altough from our perspective the 30's scary movies are not frightening,can you imagine being in a darc saloon watching that...pretty scary,right?

I would say though that Dracula is the ultimate movie because it really is a legitimate movie version of the novel, while Nosferatu wasn't allowed to do it. To me, they're just different movies really, but Bela is sooo awesome here, he pretty much defined the image of Dracula up until today. If you actually think about it, the image of Dracula you probably have is from Bela's, not from Nosferatu :)
