Sir I found for the first example, its also easier if you do it this way.

x^2+2x is also the same as x^2+2x+0 because everything is +0 but people just dont write it in, and you can do it from there if you want?

2x and 3x are like terms just as 5 and 3 are like terms. The reason that like terms are so important? Knowing how to identify like terms are important, specifically in factorising and expanding as like terms are terms that can be added and/or subtracted (etc) with brackets. Unlike terms are terms which cannot be added or subtracted without brackets So in answer to your question, 8u+2u-3u is equal to u(8+2-3)=+7u., as all the terms are like terms.
