When a cover reaches a certain point of artistic value, or more specially, lack of same ~ it simply becomes "camp." This album cover is, plain & simple, CAMP.
searching for songs from The Cyrkle, came across this and one good thing came out of it, I saw a listing for this song done by Anne Murray, loved her version.
George Harrison didn't sing lead on very many of the Beatles' recordings but this is one song that he did and it was one of my favorites. The song was originally released as part of the Hard Day's Night sound track. Don't Bother Me was another good Beatles' song that George say lead on.
This is one of the coolest songs I've come across in a long time. Obviously, I'm familiar with the Beatles' version, but I like this one better because of the bizarre chord arrangement. It really throws you a curve ball. I wish I would have come across this back during my hallucinogenic days!
I personally find the modulation irritating. It's like they're trying to imitate "Giant Steps", backwards. Ideas like that make the difference between a pop hack and a pop genius. The Beatles version was I-iii-ii-V, nice, simple, changes, slightly "jazzy" but definitley rocknroll. This is like 12-tone baroque or something. Sickly. Brian Wilson's songs were often complex, even fairly early on, but he made it sound natural.
Never heard this before. The modulation is complex if you listen carefully. It seesaws without the counterpoint jumping off the other end and jolting the family jewels. Guess I'm trying to say that this is a gem of cover. Thanks for posting.
Wow ... a 45 cover with a picture of Earle Pickens. He left the band in 1966 (to go back to medical school, I think), and was replaced by Mike Losekamp.
This album "Neon" a great album every cut ruled as i love this cover /tremendous cover better than the Beatles thanx 4 posting!

Pretty much murdered the melody. Amazingly the harmonies still sound good, but off key is off key. lol.

.....deservedly belongs in the list of 10 worst covers of all time.
Not as bad as Shatner's "Tambourine Man" but comes close.....

A nice arrangement... a fantastic ending. I had a mono copy of "Neon". Finally got to hear this in STEREO! Thanks 4 posting!

@CastleOfThoughts -- Yeah, the song's ending resolves the chord progressions nicely.
Good stuff!

Seems appropriate the Cyrkle would cover a Beatles song, I've read that John Lennon came up with their name.

I got the Neon album, and I fuckin love this song!

The best thing about this is probably the instrumental outro. That sitar effect used earlier in the song is a major annoyance.

Not the greatest cover, buy far more palatable than some other covers that ruin the arrangement and bastardize the song.
At least they try to stay true to the song for the most part, but the chorus gets bogged down with extraneous matter. Not the greatest.
