I teach students with severe disabilities (and am a parent) and appreciate your spotlight on education. However, the current "accountability" atmosphere totally abandons the kids I teach and incubates discrimination against them on a massive scale since they don't improve test scores. Rev. Sharpton's views are interesting and I look forward to hearing what he brings to the debate. He and Gingrich are, indeed, an odd couple!

I am confident no one's intent is to discriminate against any child as US K-12 education struggles to reach global standards.

Every child deserves the opportunity to achieve his or her maximum potential - from children who are gifted to children who have disabilities to children of average ability. America needs all of its children to excel.

I don't know the right policies to safeguard children with disabilities.

I do know that average & gifted US students are well below their global peers.
