  • This prayer is in Hebrew. Yiddish is a Germanic language that is about 15% Hebrew and is written with the Hebrew alphabet. It was spoken by Eastern European Jews.

  • She got almost all of it right. She needs some practice still. (For example, "qidshanu" is a corruption that should be pronounced "qideshanu".)

  • believe it or not, my mother sang this in the temple in England in the 1930s, she was about 2 or 3, when it was unheard of for females to do so. I remember her singing it when I was growing up.

  • Rabbi???? In name only - ossur.

  • @ramius46D Thanks for the lashan hara

  • Thanks for posting this! I need to practice. I got caught off guard at the last Shabbat dinner. Nice background scenery, too!

  • Thank you for posting this. My Bnei Mitzvah is this Friday and Saturday and I was in need of assistance with the Kiddish. Thank you

  • I have a question:

First off, thank you for posting this; it was very beautiful. I am not Jewish, nor do I know anyone who is, but I've often found Yiddish Prayers to be beautiful in their poetry.

Question: Have you seen "Schindler's List", and if so, is this the same prayer that is used in the opening scene of that movie? I hear some simularities, and I'm just curious. I can't find any info about that particular scene, and if you've seen the movie, I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!
