The death penalty is something which is recognized in Catholicism as being in the realm of "prudential judgement", meaning that there are legitimate differences of opinion on the subject. (btw I myself do not support the death penalty).

Child-killing, on the other hand (what in hell does "abortion" mean anyway?) is an absolute non-negotiable, and the protection of innocent lives is a prerequisite for just politics.
