  • The judges were VERY lenient back in the show's beginning. In the 80s $25/100K Pyramid, they were downright sadistic.

  • If Asner had said "Sammy Davis, sometimes" on the '80s version of Pyramid it would have resulted in an immediate buzz wouldn't it?

  • Also, when the series moved to ABC, contestants HAD to guess the subject exactly on the nose.

  • This was the CBS version. When the series moved to ABC in May 1974, the use of hand gestures was a no-no.

  • Great post! I have this whole episode on VHS, and I've damn near worn it out!

  • off sync.

  • It's interesting to note that Pyramids judging got more strict over the years & Password got more lenient over the years; somebody's got the whole thing totally mixed up. Anyway, the hand gestures I feel didn't give anything away here; it's not like Ed made a shirt or Lab equipment with his hands. The IRONED response I don't think should have add it since synonems didn't get accepted in the main game & not here. Pyramid is a tough show to judge, but it's worth it. The moment here gets 3.5 stars.

  • The hand movement would've got him busted on the newer versions

  • Asner looks like he has to take a shit... LOL

  • LOL!

  • that shouldn't count because the 200 flip over after she said the correct answer...if you can notice it

  • the video and audio are slightly off, i think.

  • it is off...sadly

  • its not off, what it is she must of said "pressed" or somethin like that but the microphone didnt pick it up, so someone heard her and spun the trilon

  • Nope; it's off.

  • "Sammy Davis, sometimes" might have been disqualified if used in a later episode. They'd buzz you for being too descriptive.

  • It's a $10,000 episode (as evidenced by the amount at the top of the pyramid). I'm betting this is an early CBS-era New York (Ed Sullivan Theatre) episode.

Interesting though how lenient they are on the answers.

  • Except that in Nov. 1973, the "Pyramid" taped about 4 weeks' worth of episodes at CBS Television City in Hollywood, which explains Ed Asner's appearance there.

  • I agree! This show was addictive; I wish they were still doing it.

  • This must be very old. I remember in the winners circle on the later shows, they had to strap their hands. Also, the judges seemed to be a lot more lenient then!

  • yes, I noticed that. but still a great game show.

  • Wow, she never said "press" or "legal" Very strange.

  • Actually, I think she did say press...but its not picked up by the mic. If you look at right after Asner says "a shirt", when she throws her hands out, it looks like she's says "pressed" or "press" but its not picked up by the mic. Also they flipped the trilon before she said "ironed", so the producers must have heard it in the studio.

  • Naw. They were just more lenient in this version. If you "got the idea" of the subject, then you got credit. "Law" and "Legal" are both related words anyway (coming from the Latin "lex") and the judges took "iron" as a synonym for "press."
