I have made my 8 yr old and 6 yr old do chores around the house to earn their money and they have always used their money if they want "lollies" or a new toy or new clothes. Granted once a year we buy the kids clothes that they need or their new shoes. But if they want something in between then they earn and buy it themselves. I agree it makes them feel good to be able to pay for it themselves.
