"1000 horse power being held in check by a single man & a green flag" a 1969 chevelle SS454 has 600HP rebuilt!!. I beleive he meant 1000cc. A 79 kaw with 1000HP? superbike inDEED
Great Video good to see them hanging off makes me remember my Z1R at max revs felt like the motor was swinging in the frame wish i never sold it , is that Deep Throat from Water Gate commentating
Thank You for the video, great memories. I'm lucky to live across Highway 68 opposite Laguna Seca (it will never be that other "corporate-name-here" raceway to me) on Los Laureles Grade since 1964. Saw many of these races right up to the recent MotoGP event, love it.
Thanks so much for this video. I'm only in my late 20's but I love these old races and old bikes. I'm 90% done with my Wes Cooley conversion on a 1980 GS850. It definitely looks the part but of course has a little less power. I'd love to see any more races from the late 70's to early 80's.
@neybordayfid GS850? Isn't that shaft-drive? I had a proper GS1000E in the early 80's, and a GS1000S Wes Cooley replica later - the Wes Cooley Replica was quite heavy - it looked nice, but was no road-race bike like the 'feather-light' 500lb GS1000E...
@xuancris Yep, the 850 was a bored out 750 engine with a shaft-drive. It's a great bike and I've just bought my 4th. Yes, it's 600 pounds with a full tank of gas. I don't mind so much being 6'4" and 225 but I can't imagine a small person doing to well with it. Yes, shaving 100 pounds of the bike would definitely make it "feather-lite" by 1980 standards. I'd love to get a GS1000 or 1100 and upgrade the suspension and go with the red and white theme of his actual race bike. Will build for food..
Freddy is one of only two riders to ever win two wold championships at the same time. 250 and 500 and before that several A.M.A. superbike champianships after leaving kawasaki to ride with team honda.
Back in the days when men raced bikes, not kids.

Proper racing on proper bikes. No traction control, no launch control, just the throttle and brakes to keep you lapping quickly. Nice vid, cheers.

The road surface is unevenness, a large quantity of sand.
The American course is scary.

Yamaha is not a bad bike but,the color blue is lame ass hell.Yamaha is second to a ninja. Its better than gixxer and honda though.

That Freddie Spencer looks like he has some potential, I wonder how he made out after this victory.
