Roller Boogie
Original Release Date: Dec 19, 1979
Love is born to boogie in this electrifying romantic adventure about a Beverly Hills teen (Linda Blair) who falls head over wheels for a boy from the wrong side of the roller rink! It's the ultimate fast-paced, freewheeing '70s roller romp!
@TomthatiscalledTom I know, they haven't got a clue. we are the lucky ones, lucky enough to know what it felt like to live in an organic world not ruled by hyper advertising and wanky trends.
This captures a truly unique period in our history. Where else could you find roller skates with disco music to combine with everyday fun. Great movie. Something that will possibly never be repeated. Tragic that it has gone away. I only wish there could be some commentary with this movie and have it on blu ray also. Although the regular dvd you can purchase on Amazon needs improvement, It is worth buying to support this really amazing and fun film to watch. It captures a lost time so perfectly.
This was just on cinemax of the movie channel or some such shit, and, I'll say this, the title of this movie is fuckin APT! The first fifteen some odd minutes is nothing but pure...uncut...Roller Boogie-ing. I almost went into a diabetic coma.
way better than 'skate town' (though it was funny seeing patrick swayze), Bob Esty had a very busy year producing the soundtrack, Cher, Streisand and others

The last Friday of each month there will be cash prizes to be won., #100 for the winner of TAG. If I was you I would get down there each and every Friday to Practice, who will win the #100 and a trophy for that month???
Can anyone answer why this was the only film the lead actor Jim Bray ever starred in? I know he was a professional skater but you'd think, with the movies success, he would get another roll. I remember the chicks were gaga over the guy.
Yes, this movie does bring %100 sheer fucking perfection in the cheese department...especially the opening sequence with Cher singing. Not to mention those male shorts we're nothing short (no pun intended) of classic 1979!!
Thats so funny Jim Bray was my boss a couple of months ago for about 7 months. Never thought he'd be a big roller skating guy or even come out in a movie with linda blair. I have to email him now to ask him if he ever won a skate competition in tight pants with Dancing Queen playing in the back lol
I love your writing style -- and passion for disco roller skating movies! Just watches Xanadu tonight -- ah, how I wished I lived in Los Angeles in 1980...can you imagine what the casting call was like?
Wow, this is so awful, I mean, awesome... I'm gonna have to find this on DVD somewhere, if it even exists on DVD. Lovin' Cher singing that song... kinda.
I Love Linda Blair! This wonderful MOVIE is as trash as camp! Kind of the never seen sequel of the exorcist part 3. the devil goes disco! gimme some coke! LOVE IT!
I can not believe I am just now finding this one. This movie is a lot of fun and just a good time to enjoy. I saw Roller Boogie at a drive-in back in the day and people were roller skating between the cars during the movie. It was like one big party. I've never forgotten that. Oh man, we had fun in the 70's.
I used to love going to the rollar rink. The rink had every type of character to groovy people to tough guys, plus it had video games like tempest and galaga and great 80's music.
I remember telling someone "my sister's friend's brother knows Jim Bray" back when this movie came out - as if that somehow made me cool! We all piled in our van that had head to toe orange shag carpeting and saw this turkey. And bought new yellow skate covers the next day. For Jim.....
This movie is one of the reasons I wanted to move out to California. of course, I was only 10 years old. But this and American Bandstand made living in NYC so dreary - so much sun, so little responsibility, and disco skating. What more could a ten year old want? Sigh.
You did have to be there! I was a senior in high school when this movie came out and I wanted to be "Bobby James" girlfriend! What a fun movie! I still love it now!
True, but they were something like 10 years apart. Too bad Tracy went Cukoo with not eating, so sad and dumb that they sent Carol Seaver to England to explain her absence! Her last year could of been smart and sexy.
A classic in bad cinema! I feel sorry for the performers who were roller skating experts only to have the fad die! I can't help but think that when I see this film. This movie is terrible, but hysterical because of it.
regardless a classic. one of the first movies i got to see and it sticks with me still. am i showing up time by saying that i also have a beta copy as well as vhs! just love it .......
Ha, this is a favorite. I just made a big Amazon order, and this and antoehr Linda Blair b-movie I included. Also look for the extremely lovely and under-used Kimberly Beck (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Massacre at Central High) also has a minor role.
Very good eariyl '80s, nostalgic feel-good fluff. :D I love the earily '80s b-movies Linda made over the Exorcist memories myself ...
I remember seeing this in the theater, now seeing Skatetown, U.S.A finally on VHS rental, this and Skatetown, U.S.A became my instant favorites. To respond to the person who said about Roller Boogie's 80s style creeping, well if you look at Skatetown, U.S.A, you could also see Scott Baio's clothing being very un-70s. While you still had that late 70s feel, you could tell the changes in most of the people's clothing being different and another thing is that some hairstyles were changing.
Both Roller Boogie and Skatetown, U.S.A have that late 70s-early 80s look. It was really the dawning of the decade and the coming of 1980 when disco would eventually morph into dance music. Both Roller Boogie and Skatetown, U.S.A both have that look as well.
I can't believe Jim Bray din't become the next John Travolta, he was the greatest.
I remember showing up at the cinema 9 hours early to get a good place in line to the big opening to Roller Boogie, we listened to disco all night long, then there was a mad rush when the ticket window opened, we filled up on greasy, over priced popcorn and watered down soft drinks while we watched in amazement at the skillful, cat like moves by big Jim, I'll never forget that night.
I love roller boogie! used to watch it as a kid all the time. Any ideas where I can get a version that will play in Australian DVD players? I want to buy the movie!
i don't know that there is one. i HATE it when studios control the copyrights for movies and then don't make them available for the entire world market for whatever bullshit reason.
don't mean to endorse piracy, but if i were you i would look to the internet for a torrent to download. i'm sure there must be one out there.
aside from the fact that it's a fucking cheese classic, ROLLER BOOGIE holds a special significance for me. i ended up living for awhile in venice beach a couple of years after RB was filmed there. i was staying only three or four blocks from the boardwalk (the area where most of the exterior scenes were shot) so it was like living right inside the movie in a way. sadly, however, i never got the chance to disco with linda blair.
you mean, put more up of this movie? i'm really sorry but you'll have to buy it from somebody. i really only want to post trailers, unless they either don't exist for a particular movie or i can't locate one. that's just the way i roll.
the 70s got so many things wrong... but not this

A great Flick!
Better than "Skatetown USA".
The only film that comes close is
"Xanadu"with Olivia Newton John and
in his last film performance:Gene Kelly.

you mean, put more up of this movie? i'm really sorry but you'll have to buy it from somebody. i really only want to post trailers, unless they either don't exist for a particular movie or i can't locate one. that's just the way i roll.
