  • The Oboe blew me away(:

  • Beautiful sonorities!

  • bEAUTIFUL SONORITIES!!

  • sounds beautiful. always interesting to see a left handed conductor

  • i played this in high school a few years ago at carnegie hall. it was one of the most amazing things i have ever done in my life.

  • hey me too!

  • I love it ! I want it played at my funeral! Well done!

  • I played this with my college's Wind Symphony last semester. Very delicate, but very beautiful.

  • im in middle school and we played this. It was pretty hard to get the tones right on the tenor sax

  • I played this song in high school. I loved it but it was really hard. Its benny's favorite song.

  • The tuba part in this song is so lovely... you couldn't even tell there was one playing ):

  • This song is one of the hardest songs out there to play correctly.

  • Some very nice moments. This is what i'm having played at my wedding in december. Woodwinds are WAY too loud the entire time, not to mention out of tune. Tubas and lowbrass (horns included) need to grow a pair. Ending was harsh, like they were all dying for breath even with that obnoxious pause. But reading that they only had one week to prepare...it was good for that! Way to go!

  • There are some very nice moments in this performance! With that being said...there are some moments that could definitely use some work.

  • There is always room for improvement. However, they had only one week and a lot of pieces so I think it went very well given the circumstances.

  • i remember we played this my junior year. i loved it.

  • yikes...is this the best theyve got in sweden?

  • ughhh, the horns are out of tuuunnnneeee, it hurts, can't listen anymore...

  • btw, beautiful ring in the end :) loved it

  • i'm playing 2nd clarinet on this at my school :) very beautiful and powerful song. we're playing it at a church as well. (not a very good oboe player in this vid, sorry)

  • did u guys hhave trumpets cuz i did not hear any at the "entrance" part? otherwise sounded very nice

  • I play Bass Sax on this song at my school.. woo! This is an awesome piece. Ours ends differently though and my director plays with the phrases more.

  • Intonation...ouch........

  • @mickmacho orchestra is tired - practise 8 hours a day for a week and then a lot of concerst

sorry but so is life sometimes...

  • Some players must know how to take their time with the music, typical of a slow, sustained, intense piece of music like this - this would help with the smudgy phrase transitions. And watch the tuning guys, that is certainly one way to kill a piece.

  • Hey Johantj, are you in this Swedish band?

It sounds beautiful. we're playing this song in my high school now.

  • No, I'm part of the management. It is a beautiful song.

  • it sure is. I've played it twice - in orchestra and band.

Just wondering though, when was the transcription written/copyrighted?

  • im using this video to practice with, with my flute. its pretty dull alone, you know what i mean? thanks for the vid, its been awesome practice. and u guys sounded hella nice!!!

  • Thank you! I'm glad we can help.

  • I love the end of the song, its so godly

  • our band juust started playing this. i play first clarinet && the oboe solo (i switch during the song)... i love it

  • really? what school are you from???

  • What a complete cop-out. They cut 4 of the last few measures out! TROMBONES!

    What a distasteful conductor.

  • The band plays, of course, a transcription made by Mark H. Hindsley.

This orchestra met for the first time ten days before this concert was recorded. I think the conductor did a great job.

  • In the scene this piece comes from, in "Lohengrin", the music is interrupted without any sort of satisfying ending, so there is no one "right" way to end any arrangement of the piece. I believe the one we hear most commonly is from a band arrangement by Lucien Cailliet.

  • hey that sax player sounds nice!

  • Poor oboe... pity for a national band... don't you have a better oboe in the whole country?

  • These are not professional musicians. Indeed, the number of oboe players in Sweden is quite small. We have about 80 members in our organization which are 15 years or older. There are about 500 students of oboe at various levels in Sweden.

  • Ok, I was a little bit hard with my comment. Sorry for that and thanks for your explanation! I know it's so difficult to have a good sound when you are young with a oboe. Sorry

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love the harp part after the key change.

  • thats odd

at the end second and third last whole notes were supposed to be trilled

but its weird that he didn't do that

  • what the F

    conducting with your left hand?

must be in Europe where they do everything backwards

  • I don't think it actually makes a difference.

  • not really but everything the conductor conducts has to be mirrored

  • Conducting left handed.... tsktsktsktsk.
