If you cut the PVC in half and drill a hole about an inch and a half from the opening. Then take a slittly smaller PVC and slide it inside. Take a screw and tighten it in you can make it adjustable only carrying on piece.
I was wondering if you can use connectors in the middle of your example with some elastic type string/rope so it can be pulled apart and folded into thirds like a tent pole?
I was intrigued after I saw this video, but I had problems finding a cheap and light enough monopod. That was until I found Vanguard MP-2 from a local mall. My friend, whose project I'm producing at the time, had never even heard of monopods, but when he saw it he got really exited.
I've been using a monopod for my projects for quite some time now. I love it. I use a monfrotto monopod, but here's a little trick I've been keeping to myself for a while: There's these sand bags called Baby boa sand bags. They wrap around the bottom of the monopod, and shazam...you've got a weighted ghetto steadycam....the sandbags are a bit pricey for a stupid sand bag, (like 30-40 bucks) however, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a glidecam...and you can figure out many many other uses
Great video!! Just wanted to report that I recently had this same idea about 2 months ago and videoed a wedding with the monopod.. Worked really great!
I used to use monopods all the time when i was in a film class and all the equipment was supplied, but now that I have no budget, i find ways to work around needing one
Hey just found your channel, love your vids. Did I see you on IndyMogul once? lol
I was wondering what mic setup do you use? You seem to be getting pretty good audio even at far distances from the camera. Do you have something portable that you sync up later? Or some kind of boom/shotgun mic? Thanks, I'd love to know! :)
i use a painters pole, they are able to extend real far real cheap. making it 1/4-20 is tough, you gotta but a paint roller, cut it halfway up, then run a longish 1/4-20 and some washers and a nut through there.then you can add a Sima quick release plate (which i discovered first!! Hura!)
I've got one of the Targus monpods from Wallyworld. works great with the HV30, would be nice thought to have a gimbled head. really need to add one of those Sima quick release plates to it as well. I used it for a high angle shot for a video on a craft fair. Can't beat it for $15. Ketchup helps with the bugs.
I use these a lot for filming in clubs. Some clubs will not let you use a tripod, but the mono has a very slim profile and does not get in the way of the crowd having fun. Nice video!
For your test films, you should shoot with the DSLR and use the Zi8 to shoot the behind the scenes footage. Just a suggestion. BTW, the monopod was a great "crane" alternative. :)
@ImagineNowEntertnmnt Right!? Figures, I never use my DSLR for the QFX series, and the one time I do, I realize (after everything was shot) that I should have used the zi8 like usual, so I could show the DSLR on the pod. I'll be using the monopod with the dslr in future episodes.
For the "over the crowd" -shot you could attach a 35mm film can to a wire and hang it from your neck. Now you could just let one end of the monopod sit on the can. This helps if you are shooting for a long time.
this was a great idea, someone actually made a video with this idea a couple weeks back, i'll send you a pm, however his version is much bigger than yours, and less portable, this is something that i may have to try and make one day.

That's a great deal you got on your monopod, I use my monopod with my larger Sony cameras. I like that open country field just not the bugs!

@AccuracyFilms You can get a Targus brand for $14.99 and Walmart or Target. Perfect counterweight for DSLRs.
