  • I thought this was the video where Roger admitted to being a capitalist ; )

  • @Hotelmotelkfc Given that he has a net worth of $145 million today, I'd say he pretty definitely decided to hang on to it. LOL

  • That smile @2:40 is sincere and priceless....especially after hearing/playing this song umpteen thousands of times. Very cool.

  • How many bands today would resist the test of showing raw takes of their recordings like this?

  • 15 ignorantes, no comprenden la buena evolución musical...

  • I love watching behind the scenes, and yes hardcore indeed, I'm wet

  • Alan Parsons!

  • this is like intellectual nonsexual hardcore porn

  • if anyone posts the 24 track masters for either The Wall or DSotM; I will love you and be eternally greatful

  • one of the coolest grooves in classic rock, no question! very rare in the fact that it is one of the few songs to ever be in an odd time (7/8) that was a huge commercial success

  • god i hate comments like "all music today sucks, ________ music from______ time is the only music worth a shit."

so irritating and tired and flat out wrong. this clip and this song ....AMAZING

  • I don't know which one of the new immersion albums I'm gonna get, I can only afford one, what do you think?

  • Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd. How can you go wrong?

  • Holy shit. Getting this documentary as we speak. Cannot wait. This vid was awesome.

  • @GuitarsGalore557

strange, I'm also missing this scene from the documentary I have...... how come ?

  • there is a shit ton going on in this tune.

  • I love the isolated vocal track from 2:50-3:14 his voice ;**

  • can you imagine getting your hands on that board!!

  • damnit, they dont talk about the drums, this song actually has lots of drum tracks recorded into it, when the guitar solo starts any drummer can distinguish them, because its really hard to play bass + snare + hi-hats + ride so they recorded several drum tracks

  • Good vid, Must save it for later

  • every guitarists in the whole world < David Gilmour

  • what a song. love seeing the individual guitar parts at the start

  • They made something like this for popular 2011 artists. For the vocal tracks they said "this is the unedited track, then we add some reverb, then some autotune. And a bit more autotune. And a tad bit of autotune

  • ughh les pauls

  • APP? WTF!

  • I believe it's in 7/4, but am I wrong?

  • @WormYourHonor64 it's in 7/8

  • @rafaelsj89 Really? It sounds like 7/4... Oh well. Thx!

  • Very cool piece !

  • roger waters why did have to let your ego get the better of you?

  • great !!!

  • Brilliant album!

  • apparently all the thieves and tricksters have overrun the comments section. don't fall for their "give us a little information and we can make you money" bullshit

  • @livestreamz2 Well fan-fucking-tastic, spammer.

  • perhaps how2aou812 didn't see the concert live............one of the only concerts I ever saw that was true to the album!!! Brilliant.......... they may have perfected it in the studio,,,, but they made it identical in concert

  • perhaps how2aou812 didn't see the concert live............one of the only concerts I ever saw that was true to the album!!! Brilliant

  • @GetRichEasyNow1 get a job you fucking tool

  • @GetRichEasyNow1 Fuck off

  • Nicholas Parsons Project, absolute genius and Sale Of the Century!!

  • Gilmour is an pure genius

  • that last point that roger made was really good

  • Where's Nick Mason?

  • I love Gilmour's face when he looks up when he puts all the pieces are together.

  • the masters at work

  • for the record, it was actually david's idea to cut up the tape into 7 pieces. how roger gives himself more credit then he actually deserves. but, still brilliant lyric writer.

  • @kermicheo where'd you hear it was David's idea?

  • Godz of music!! all must bow down!!

  • I love when david puts a lot of tracks into the songs here is a good example!

  • what an incredible mix, and it sounds so warm and thick, just marvellous --- imagine if only genesis would have had such a sound on lps like foxtrot and the lamb, they would be even twice as great as they are

  • I disliked the video. SOngs awesome, bands awesome. Want to punch that skinny prick at the end :P

  • That Lewis guitar is soooo sweet.

  • David doing what he does best and nobody does better!!! <3

  • Pink Floyd: R&R first class.

  • david looks like hes having fun in the studio

  • HAHA Alan talks like he actually mixed dark side LOL Chris Thomas did...

  • How come this is not on my DVD? Is this a bonus feature outside of the normal film?

  • @MacDrevi0us

Can someone plese tell my why this is out of the normal documentary ?

  • @miguelbaptista I have no idea. No one ever got back to me on that question. I do know that with a lot of Pink Floyd Dvd's they have hidden stuff on them (go figure) and so my best guess is that this was a hidden piece.

  • Not forgetting that the whole riff for "Money" was based on Dave Brubeck's "Take Five".

  • @OBeaner

    why? because ist a 5/4 time beat?^^

  • @OBeaner it does not sound like it at all lol

  • That note :) !

I love David,,, best guitar player of all time

  • I hope Roger is a capitalist!

  • @SkylarkStudios his dad was a communist

  • @SkylarkStudios he said more recently that he is a capitalist, because at least he can use his money for good things. he also implied that socialism failed and it's just a utopian dream.

i guess his father's socialist views and the marxist leftyism of the sixties had their impact on him as well, plus the idealism of youth

  • @SkylarkStudios i hope he´s not

  • its hard for me to see you age, you are so timeless

  • hahaha i use fl studios oh god will i ever be in on of those studios i hope so

  • Looks like such an awesome job. I would love to hang out with these guys

  • who sings money in Dark side of the moon?

  • David Gilmour!!

  • Roger Waters!!

  • @TwistedMentality089 Written by Roger Waters (With input from Gilmour), but sung by GIlmour.

  • @TwistedMentality089 david gilmour

  • I could spend hours messing around with each individual track like David is doing

  • simple ADT techniques, but jeez don't they work well!

  • As genius as the band was, they were backed by a very smart guy in the studio on this album. Alan did a great job!

  • @Arlynehambly piss off

  • @ReynaGiles901 eat a shit

  • Hello eugenedouglas

I have to admit I am very impressed with the quality of your videos here on youtube.

They are certainly a pleasure to watch as I do enjoy them.

I am sure there is many others who also feel the same about your videos.

    Mark McCulloch

  • the rythym/loop tape would go for millions today!

    I wonder where its at

  • it's not 7/8, it's 7/4 !!

  • it's just 7\8

  • No it's not. It's 7/4 man :-\

  • Being an amateur musician with a small digital home studio, I too appreciate the sound quality of analog tape. But man, you still have to give digital some credit on how much easier its made recording. If this song was recorded nowadays, Roger and the boys would simply have just recorded those sound effects into a computer, then spaced them out in 7/8 with pinpoint precision.

Just my 2 cents. (heh, no pun intended)

  • why does alan parsons have a puffy pirate shirt on? genius notwithstanding, of course.

  • "but I dont wanna be a pirate!"

  • Halo Thank you for sharing a truth the doc. about making MONEY, The loop reminds me of all the fun working Years ago at Digital Duplication,,,Mass Audiocassette Duplication!

I've grown as I learned at the way and I invite you to watch a TV episode of Angels Talk or Calling All Angels HOTLINE.

Divine Love & HOLy Kisses, Sandra. AngelsAtGodCentralStation

  • Geez that replayed bass is sloppy:( I learned a lot from this video, this is one of the best shows on tv!

  • This was fascinating. I've always liked the Floyd, but seeing what went into making this record gives me a newfound respect for them. I use samplers in music, but I realise that nowadays people don't make the most of that kind of technology. I love the idea of making a rhythm out of abstract sounds, like Roger Waters did with the coins, ripped paper, etc. Marvelous.

  • I have this on DVD. Surprised it still can be played... Nice post

  • Ola ta lefta!

  • Best record ever

  • This is simplay a perfect example of what floyds music is about, playing it may be easy, creating it isa completely different story, I remeber gilmour saying they spaired no expense to make music for floyd, if they couldnt do it, they found someone who could or found some other way. seems like gilmour is the onlyone who can "recreate Floyd"! Great Video, great Find! Floyd Rules! *****

    Jake

  • I absolutely love Pink Floyd. I didn't care for Dark Side of the Moon though. Money is one of my favourite songs by them and I enjoyed watching how they made it. Technology wasn't the same back then so what they did was quite impressive.

  • nice! I was listening to this song earlier today

  • Man, 36 years ago! Legend!!!

  • legend

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmm(:

  • AWESOME!

  • I love videos like this - where you go behind the scenes and see how it really call came to fruition. I'm only 27 and I've loved this album as long as I've heard it. It doesn't get much better than this.

  • im only sixteen. feel the same

  • The problem with music today is that its too easy to depend on technology. its great today that you can basically build your own mixing studio with current software and hardware. But there is too much dependence on sampling and looping in music today. People cutting and pasting samples and loops together to form music.

  • That's totally not the problem. Well I mean, it's A problem, but not THE problem.

  • Well your right its probably not the only problem but it has somewhat contributed to the bland generic sound of a lot of band music today. A lot of bands these days dont have a very signature sound. They have very processed generic sound. Then there are the songs. Put some effort in writing good memorable songs. Mix up the timings, add some actual melody, get a little instrumental etc.

  • agreed, the bands today slack alot on the "talent" end of things and rely on skill, they have nothing to write about and ramble the same tunes and timing throughout their music with no originality. Blabbering about with no direction, the songs today have no focus. Floyd set lanmark achievements especially with their "Concepts" on life.

  • share your enthusiasm for floyd, but i think that today's technology opens up completely new worlds for rock and music and I'm all about it ;) Focus? relisten to the end of this video... that's a man who has lost focus... lol (jk)... rock on folks, new tech or old!

  • Agreed, but todays musicians lack the talent to use these technologies, or dont use them very well, seems like they look for the easy way out, kid rock sampleing alot of music is a perfect example, not saying he did a bad job, hes a good writer, too bad he cant make his own music, his "samples" are what made him famous. Floyd is and always will be way ahead of most bands when it comes to "producing" music or a sound that makes them unique. the bands these days all sound the same, just my opinion

  • BTW, if you are talking about Waters, i would agree that he definately lost focus on what he started out doing & what was important for himself & the band, it is a shame & a very sad story, sadder than the barrett story if you ask me. Syd leaving the band was best for the band, himself & his peers, Waters leaving only worked in Gilmours direction, everyone else got severely hurt, including waters himself.

  • God MP3 killed the era of great bands.

  • No, money killed the era of great bands (60's and 70's). MP3 killed the money in music. I am all for musicians playing music for the music, not the money.

  • No, mp3 killed the era of records (CDs). The money in music thru live concerts is pretty much alive thanks to mp3 and p2p. You can play music for the art of making music, and at the same time earn a lot of money.

  • hahahahahaha....apparently you nothing of vinyl. I do understand where you're coming from but vinyl has seen such a massive revival and has never died. I'm a 28 year old guy who buys vinyl because cd's and mp3's sound like crap and always will. Nothing can ever replace the way the entire waveform of music is placed onto a record. Digital blows because it's chopped up music, vinyl sounds the way it does because it IS the REAL music.

  • I can't really appreciate the sound of vinyl. I just don't have the ears to hear the difference between a high quality digital recording and the record version. I do know that records are fragile, and scratches really mess up the music. MP3's are too easily wiped , so I buy cd's.

O just wish that the loudness-war would end. that really kills the quality of cd's.

  • You got that right on the loudness war man. There's actually quite a bit of good quality you can put on cd's, like DTS encoded sound and multiple speaker set up. But yeah the war as it is makes me cringe when artists get jumpy about downloading mp3's.

  • the problem is that while cds offer infinitely more dynamic range everything is limmited to within an inch of its life

  • @Vidar33 Thats because the difference is arguable. I record all the time, and the difference between masters, vinyl and cd's is incredibly small that all heard differences is purely based on biased perception. Get yourself a pair of audiophile headphones and the lack of quality is obvious in all mediums. Vinyl and cd's both have ups and downs. Theres no proven best.

  • I think that vinyl can be more pleasant to the ears but everything else, I totally disagree with you.

  • monkeymirror Correct. And I wonder if digital is part of the decline in C.D. sales. Written on some C.D.'s is the following: "The music on this Compact Digital Disc was originally recorded on analog equipment. We have attempted to preserve, as closely as possible, the sound of the original recording, Because of it's high resolution, however, the Compact Disc can reveal limitations of the source tape'.

  • Very true. The source tape is the best recording in existence after the live set.

  • ... dude... honestly I don't really understand why you're so aggro about this. I don't mind vinyl, but its really annoying to store all of them. I much prefer just having access to all of my flac files over my LAN feeding into a nice stereo system.

  • I guess the difference for me is that I don't need to listen to every single piece of music I own wherever I happen to be in the world at any time. Maybe I just enjoy listening to my records on the turntable and enjoying my cd's on the player or my tapes in the machine and even my mp3's on the actual computer. I'm not trying to be aggressive, just voicing my opinion. I guess I'm kind of old fashioned when it comes to going outside and listening to the actual world that's around us.

  • vinyl is just like analog tape. I love it but the physical contact wears it down with each play

  • cool thanks for posting.

  • not only were they the most legendary musicians around but obviously very technically musically minded.there will never be another group like this ever again.

  • Look at all those knobs.

  • Tremendous. Truly creative musicians and amazing to see the actual mixing of the tracks. I am humbled.

  • That was awesome. I remember the day I got hooked on these guys too.

  • Brillant. It says it all.

  • ...just virgin sound...

  • i didnt know that richard gere was in pink floyd

  • cant believe they were making music this complicated with all those layers of instruments back in 1970's

  • I think Money is the only DSOTM song that I DON'T like. :P

So that little trick with the vocals is called a "delay", huh? I've used that before, but their delay kicks butt! Never knew it could be so useful. That vocal delay is the best feature in Money. I wonder if it's true what I read on Wikipedia about the heavy blues influence on Pink Floyd. At first I was surprised to hear that, but after listening more closely it makes perfect sense.

  • cool

  • I will never forget the first time i heard Pink Floyd for the first time. Fell in love at first song

  • Pink Floyd is the best group of music in the story of the world. I miss your concert in Chile :'(

    I Love forever Pink Floyd.

  • I like all types of music but Pink Floyd to me the greatest band I have ever heard. This is a more commercial song but listen to the older stuff like Animals,Final Cut,Saucer full of secrets and Wish you were here to name a few and you will understand.

RIP Syd and Richard your music will live forever!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Um... all the albums you named were released after dark side of the moon.

  • A Saucerful of Secrets came out before Dark Side... but yeah, that guy sucks.

  • animals, final cut, and wish you were here, all came after dark side of the moon...

  • What an amazing band!!!

  • Oh, man I LOVE stuff like this! Is it on DVD? I must HAVE it! I MUST HAVE IT!!!!

  • yes it is!! ;)

  • upgrade to bluray baby it'll blow your mind

  • there is anybody for translate in italian, please?

  • PF music always had a funky creative edge to it. Money has unusual time sig 7/8, then breaks into straight 4/4 for the guitar solo and you can feel the tension release, then back to 7/8. Very cool and very rare. I can't think of another big hit rock song with unusual time sig.

  • schism....or anything tool

  • Schism is a good call, but was a very minor rock hit, not even in the same league as Money. (read better: BIG ROCK HIT) And the "anything tool" part of your comment is just silly.

  • True. Though you should probably say classic rock hit if that's what you're looking for. I consider some Tool tracks to be big hits.

Everything In Its Right Place has an odd signature. As for what you may or may not consider big rock hits how about

Beatles - All You Need Is Love

    or

Alice In Chains - Them Bones

    both in 7/8

  • And no, neither or those are as big as Money, but they weren't that small either.

  • Yes, Absolutely right. My point is not to dis Tool or AIC, love both bands. My point was that Floyd was able to get a HUGE ROCK HIT with a fairly progressive piece of music. There are plenty of odd time sig rock songs, but none I could think of as massively popular as Money. No worries.

  • All You Need Is Love, good call. It sounds so natural always assumed straight 4. Don't get me wrong, I love AIC, but Them Bones is not nearly as big a hit. There are popular songs like Theme for MI, Brubeck's Take 5, Tubular Bells (Exorcist) that are in 5/4, and very popular, but not rock.

I guess what impressed me about Floyd and Money was that they took something that is pretty progressive, almost jazzy and made it very popular in the rock world. Tough to do.

  • it never goes back to 7/8, it just sounds as close as possible to that in 4/4 with lower, more condensely played instruments

  • Of course it goes back to the 7/8

  • screw beatles rockband, give me Floyd Rockband.. obviously the full track recordings are in great shape!
