@kikopup i got a Chihuahua a few days ago hes about 1 year old he knows no tricks nothing. i was wondering could it be to late to teach him the basics lile sit or stay is there an age limit to teaching
How do I teach my Yorkshire terrier to do any tricks? I'm trying to teach him by getting my other dog to do shake, roll over, lie down, and BANG but nothing works.
why does she say YES instead of SIT or DOWN whenever the desired behaviour is achieved? Wouldn't the dog associate YES with sitiing down???? She never says sit or down. What a weird video.
wow i just taught my 6 week old chihuahua to sit!!!! (: im so proud thank you so much ! keep makeing these videos. i learn alot from it! god bless you
I walk my neighbour's dog who'd been kept behind a gate for the first year of her life. She quickly learnt "sit" and "lie down". I walk her on the mountain, slowly introducing her to the outside world, with off-leash romping time. However, if she sees another dog half a mile away she starts barking aggressively and goes after it. She's a small dog and goes for big dogs. Twice she played chase with dogs her own size, but when it comes to big dogs she has a death wish. Help?

I've watched like 30 clicker videos by now, and the only thing I am left wondering is; are you using her daily food as treats instead of having regular meals? There are sooo many treats, and all of that aside from regular food would be too much, I'm guessing ;)
question - i got a doberman puppy at 4 month old, i watch your video and got my puppy to learn sit but when i try to teach him down, he just dont get it, he even try to use sneak attack on the treat. need help
one simple question.is it okay if the treat would be a carrot ,i did google whether dogs like carrot but i found they love them ,just to make sure will it be good if i train them to sit or drop treating them by carrot?
I have a really great Pug, who's quite smart. He's got "Sit", and does it almost always on command, but it's been a struggle teaching him "Down". When I draw the treat downwards to the ground while he's in Sitting position, he just raises his bum and stands. Also, if I try to treat him while he's just laying down, it never works cause he just gets excited and stands.
hi again. my dog wouldn't lay down. he steps backwards, sits, jumps around but doesn't lay down. he is French bulldog puppy, so he can reach my hand without laying down.. any advice? i tried just to be close to him, and than he lays down because he is bored, i click and cheer, but than he gets up, and no more laying down. thanks again. you are great :)))
Hi just started looking at your videos and would like to say you are very talented and thank you for sharing these videos. This is what its all about giving you dog mental stimilation, excercise, and fun, equals a well balanced dog, who wants to be with you when you out and about having fun off lead, keep up the good work.
@GrafferDusk Maybe you should teach your dog a "stand" command? You can alternate "sit", "stand" and "down" so your dog will never predict what you are going to do next.
@GrafferDusk Our 4 year old Yorkie is in a training class, and I told the trainer my dog automatically sits when he sees either the clicker, or a treat. She said it's okay because once you start to introduce other behavior like down, etc. he/she will learn they don't just sit for a treat or clicker. Does that make sense?
i tried with my dachshund. she sits but i can't get her to down. And the luring doesn't seem to work with her. She just stares at my hand with the treat and doesnt move with it. And for some reason her down is more a roll on my back and rub my belly which i don't want. Am i doing anything wrong?
I have problems in getting him to stay in the position I ask for. I can tell already he is dependent on treats, even when I've taken them away. He'll still do the position but gets up shortly after and stares at my hands. I've waited for eye contact but I feel it rarely comes and when it does he's jumping up! When I don't give him treats he'll jump up or nip at my hands. I use a clicker; somehow I'm not doing it right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I love your videos. Thanks!
Hi there, i just got a 11 week old golden labrador pup last night, and i was looking at ways to try and have her sit, i must say that the way to teach this is great! I just hope that i can have my pup do the same :) As im at work now i will try this in the moring, thank you for the video!
there are much better ways to teach sit/stay and dow/stay and with out treats. Really life you will not have a treat when you need your obedience to work for you. Treat training takes a long time to be reliable around major distrations. Why start with treats or ball when you have to take them away anyways.
What if you can not lure your dog to sit? My dog just don't get it, so he gets very desperate and starts barking at me, he doesn't know what to do, and I just don't know how to lure him to sit, I have tried many ways (including the one in the video) without luck. Please help!

And btw then you say sit or some other command the dogs just do it directly but than i do it the dog doesn't get it clear but than i said it 10 times he finally answers with licking my hand! what should i do???
Do you say there name before asking them to do a trick? also i know you do a clicker train if you dont have the clicker at the moment is YES ok rather then a clicker?
@mhajwel The part where you were CLEARLY dropped on your head as a child. Learn how to form a fucking sentence. Like... I'm amazed! How are you walking and breathing??? Go into detail because I need to know how stupid fucks like you are even alive.
@420blj what is your problem?? what does all your comments have to do with mine?! come on really , who was dropped on his head?! its funny u even mentioned it i'm 100% u did !!
regarding the point 7 on the end of this video, about "bagging", can you explain how to resolve this? My dog did'n think about anything, it seems to be focused only on food.
Hi, Thanks for your videos. I have a 3 yr old untrained Maltese X Shi Tsu who is desperately attatched to food. We're doing really well with sit, beg and down and even starting to target a lid on the floor with her paw but she stares at the food 100% of the time and refuses to do what I ask if I don't have food in my hand. How can I get her to concentrate on my eyes and not on the food?
Hello Kiko Pup. I have a question. I just started clicker training with my border collie about a 1 1/2 weeks ago. She has been doing great with eye contact in a sit and down and not mugging the treats in my hand but when I click for keeping eye contact, she looks at my hand with the clicker. Not a huge problem but would like her to keep the eye contact after the click. Any suggestions on how to stop this behavior.
I taught my puppy to sit in I swear 5 minutes but we're having trouble with getting her to lay down. I've tried getting her to lay from a sit position like you show and bringing the treat down, she just get's up and puts her head down to get it. If I pull it sideways she still gets up. I've also tried the crawl method by putting the treat down and pulling back slowly to get her to crawl into a down position. We're just not getting it. (fyi, she is a nearly 13 week old chihuahua). I need help.
i hv been clicker training my dog for sitting, down n to the crate.. but only to the crate that is successful... the sitting n down command was half success, he only wants to do it occasionally and during training sessions.. really wondering why, and he sometimes ignores me..helppp
@kellebell01 I have had like 7 training sessions with my Chihuahua in how to sit (10-15 minutes each), and looks like he just doesn't get what I'm asking him to do. I'm gonna try what Mylabrocks124 suggested and pushing his butt a little bit to see if that way he gets it.
@courtneyleex If her focus is wavering, perhaps try getting a higher valued treat! Maybe real chicken, or hot dog bits, or turkey. The better the treat, the harder the dog will want to work for it! Find out what she loves. :)
thank you this really helped i have a chihuahua pug mix and his name is spike he is really fun and CRAZY so i came across this vid and thoght he needs to be calm when people come over and i think this vid will really help him thxs so much :D ♥ laurenjulian157
I'm going to try to teach my Chihuahua to do a couple things probably on Monday, is it as easy as it seems with a little patience or is it a bit more frustrating? Also...My chihuahua has no obedience training whatsoever if that'll help lol
Just don't rush your dog and be patient. Two weeks ago I got a dog. I didn't think it would work trying to teach him how to cross his paws when he was laying down. I felt like I was getting no where but after an hour of reapeating the steps over and over I was ready to give up. My husband had walked int he room and I just told him I'm trying to teach him how to cross his paws and when I said that my dog crossed his paws. It was insane cause I thought that I wasn't getting through to him.
I'm getting really good results using this method, but there's slight problem for my puppy. He paws at the food while in the sit position instead of staying still. At first I started ignoring it and kept luring him around, but after a while I figured that position is better than any. So I rewarded him for being at that position a couple of times, and attempted to treat him only when both paws are on the ground. Unfortunately the message isn't getting through, what should I do?
Nice vid, thanks! Problem is, my dog (half lab, half something else) won't sit unless he can smell food in my hand :( Also, when I do have food he'll just keep trying to take it from there. I tried what you suggest at the other video, but i'm all confused (and worried) because I just don't know how to teach him... Where do I start? What should i teach first? For how long? Should I teach just one thing for a few days then the next? Or 2-3 things at the same time? I'm really confused with this..:(
Ah, btw. Crucial details. My dog is 9-11 months old, he was found almost dead by people of a dog shelter after someone threw him out of a house. Which actually means that he's been living alone for some time which in turn makes him mor disobedient i think.... By the way i'm totally unable to get him to teach him Down. He understands Sit (even though he does not do it half the times) but Down... i just can't teach it :S
Hi i have a 3 month old jug (half pug half jack russel) and im trying to teach him to sit and all but he wont sit when i try to put it above his head like you do he either just walks around to my back because he knows the treats there or he jumps up on my arms..do you have any advice please i need your help badly.. am i starting too young? please give me some pointers i would greatly appreciate it
I really love your videos. I started to train my 5 month old French Bulldog yesterday. We are now working on sit and she doing fine. We only got one problem: She either stays sitting when I release her or she jumps up before I have a chance to say anything... Perhaps you have some advice!? I also watched your video about calming signals and I'll try to use it in the car and in the elevator, do you think that might work? So, then, keep going your videos are a huge help!
I started to train my little chihuahua dog today, and I'm not experienced at all. I did realize that she doesn't eat the treats I give her right away, is there a specific reason for that? Maybe the treat is too big? The same thing happens when it is food time, I put it, but she just looks at it and take a walk somewhere and then comes back and eat it after a while. Is that bad? I was thinking if it would be better if she ate the food as soon as I put it down for her. Could you give me advice?
Wow, dog training is a lot harder than I imagined.
See, the thing with my dog is that I'll tell him to sit and then he will and I'll bring my hand down for him to lie down but he'll get up with his head down to the floor to get the treat. He's never lied down on the floor like your chihuahua. And I've tried pulling his paws down onto the floor but he doesn't understand and will get back up. Help?
Your dog is lovely!! And your lessons are amazing, I'm gonna try this tomorrow with my puppy hopefully it works... I can see she's willing to play and learn tricks so I'll give it try =D thank you so much!!
@mewmewpowaful I too would like to know this? Aryan my white german shepherd puppy is tearing my hands up. I know he doesn't mean to so I'd love a few tips.
I have a doubt about realising the dog...i understand that you need to realease the dog from the begining, in this case you are using the word "ok", so that means he learns "ok" for realease, before you formerly introduce the word "sit" for the command, i am righ?
i have a question.. my dog is 5 months old now.. and after taking her for a walk she always pulls me and its really getting annoying.. since she's a Labrador its really hard to pull.. and after that accident it makes me want to train her.. is it still possible for me to train her? cuz i heard its really hard to train if the pup gets older.. and she's like 5 months old now and she's getting bigger.. please help... T___T
I had that fleece toy (4:55 with splash). Unfortunately, my dad's pup rips toys at the seam and she chewed right through it! D: And that's how Tasha lost her toy... :P
You buy a little thing called a "clicker", it makes a distinct "click" sound when you press a button. This is easier for some dogs than just a "yes", because it is the same sound every time and different from any sounds in everyday life.

wtf is that a cat lol my pitbulls would eat him as a snack. lol joking although my pits have all been to training camp for Obediace and attack, they wouldnt waiste their time on that
my 6 month old chihuhua and I had a great time training today. Using the techniques you shared in this clip, he was able to solidly learn "sit", "down", and make good progress towards "stay". This progress took place over 4 sessions throughout the day, lasting about 5-10 minutes each. I am so excited about learning these training methods and the little guy is really enjoying it and staying engaged. Thank you so much for all of the clips and this plethora of valuable information.
when they are puppies they are teething and they have a special "teenager" stage from 6 to 9 months old for german shepherds the biting continues until a little over one year it is natural behavior just correct it and show it you're the alpha it worked with my dog
How do you train your dog to not run off on you? I have a Siberian Husky puppy, and have been warned to never leave him off his leash less he run away (because its in their breed to run I was told). I want to be able train him and not have to worry about him running off (though I have not tried it yet, as I only received her a couple weeks ago).
This breed likes to explore. If you explore with your dog you will find that he would rather spend time with you than by himself. Take him on at least 1 mentally stimulating walk per day. That means On heel around cars, people..ect.. When your dog gets older get him a backpack to make him feel like he has a important job to do. Lots of hiking in the woods..ect. Your dog will explore on his own if you are boring and don't do anything with him.
no dog "likes to bite" You have obvious dominance issue. Plenty of exercise and strict rules will calm your dog down. No running through the door before you, pulling on the leash..ect.. Have your dog wait before you tell him it's okay to eat ect. daily walks (ON HEEL) and hiking will do the trick
Great videos, thanks for all the hard work, you are amazing with your dogs. We are gettting our new Lab puppy next weekend at 9 weeks old. At what age can we start training?? Right away?

Hi Emily,
regarding the point 7 on the end of this video, about "bagging", can you explain how to resolve this? My dog did'n think about anything, it seems to be focused only on food.
I've just started clicking 4 days ago.
Thank you for this great free knowledge sharing.

How can I get her to concentrate on my eyes and not on the food?
jacqui1807 1 year ago

I need help.

kellebell01 1 year ago 28
@kellebell01 I have had like 7 training sessions with my Chihuahua in how to sit (10-15 minutes each), and looks like he just doesn't get what I'm asking him to do. I'm gonna try what Mylabrocks124 suggested and pushing his butt a little bit to see if that way he gets it.

courtneyleex 2 years ago
@courtneyleex If her focus is wavering, perhaps try getting a higher valued treat! Maybe real chicken, or hot dog bits, or turkey. The better the treat, the harder the dog will want to work for it! Find out what she loves. :)

I'm going to try to teach my Chihuahua to do a couple things probably on Monday, is it as easy as it seems with a little patience or is it a bit more frustrating? Also...My chihuahua has no obedience training whatsoever if that'll help lol
00iCrazy00 2 years ago

Unfortunately the message isn't getting through, what should I do?
tvt385 2 years ago
Nice vid, thanks! Problem is, my dog (half lab, half something else) won't sit unless he can smell food in my hand :( Also, when I do have food he'll just keep trying to take it from there. I tried what you suggest at the other video, but i'm all confused (and worried) because I just don't know how to teach him... Where do I start? What should i teach first? For how long? Should I teach just one thing for a few days then the next? Or 2-3 things at the same time? I'm really confused with this..:(
menelaos1983 2 years ago

Hi!

Could you give me advice?
tymsmanifesto 2 years ago
Wow, dog training is a lot harder than I imagined.
See, the thing with my dog is that I'll tell him to sit and then he will and I'll bring my hand down for him to lie down but he'll get up with his head down to the floor to get the treat. He's never lied down on the floor like your chihuahua. And I've tried pulling his paws down onto the floor but he doesn't understand and will get back up. Help?

I have a doubt about realising the dog...i understand that you need to realease the dog from the begining, in this case you are using the word "ok", so that means he learns "ok" for realease, before you formerly introduce the word "sit" for the command, i am righ?
(sorry for my english)

i have a question.. my dog is 5 months old now.. and after taking her for a walk she always pulls me and its really getting annoying.. since she's a Labrador its really hard to pull.. and after that accident it makes me want to train her.. is it still possible for me to train her? cuz i heard its really hard to train if the pup gets older.. and she's like 5 months old now and she's getting bigger.. please help... T___T

5 months is a good age to train her, she made a video about controlling your dog when you're walking them, go look at it. :)

what does it mean to 'click'?
i don't have a dog i'm just finding out what i can
BKKWRDS 2 years ago
You buy a little thing called a "clicker", it makes a distinct "click" sound when you press a button. This is easier for some dogs than just a "yes", because it is the same sound every time and different from any sounds in everyday life.
MelaCisco 2 years ago
it means when you "click" the clicker
its just the sound that it makes when u try to tell your dog that it did something right (usually)

my 6 month old chihuhua and I had a great time training today. Thank you so much for all of the clips and this plethora of valuable information.

how to make a labrador retriever puppy stop biting me? and why is he doing this?
rsabbir 2 years ago 2
when they are puppies they are teething and they have a special "teenager" stage from 6 to 9 months old for german shepherds the biting continues until a little over one year it is natural behavior just correct it and show it you're the alpha it worked with my dog
NoraHaidar 2 years ago
you smell like chicken. Na jk, puppies will bite you until they grow up because they're teething and need something to bite as instinct.
ikickedu 2 years ago
How do you train your dog to not run off on you? I have a Siberian Husky puppy, and have been warned to never leave him off his leash less he run away (because its in their breed to run I was told). I want to be able train him and not have to worry about him running off (though I have not tried it yet, as I only received her a couple weeks ago).
FishApprentice 2 years ago
This breed likes to explore. If you explore with your dog you will find that he would rather spend time with you than by himself. Take him on at least 1 mentally stimulating walk per day. That means On heel around cars, people..ect.. When your dog gets older get him a backpack to make him feel like he has a important job to do. Lots of hiking in the woods..ect. Your dog will explore on his own if you are boring and don't do anything with him.

hi i have a really active chiweenie and doesn't really like to listen she likes to bite a lot what can i do about this?
felixcardenas8 2 years ago
no dog "likes to bite" You have obvious dominance issue. Plenty of exercise and strict rules will calm your dog down. No running through the door before you, pulling on the leash..ect.. Have your dog wait before you tell him it's okay to eat ect. daily walks (ON HEEL) and hiking will do the trick
boxofsarpobjects1 2 years ago
