This is good. A lot of so-called 'good' fighting game players tend to look down on people who are trying to learn and that puts off a lot of people from playing the games. Especially the whole 'noob' thing going on with douchebags online. It may just be the whole individual psychological problem, but it doesn't help anybody except maybe for the person who's calling others 'noob' to feel better about himself by belittling others. I think this may just be people from the 80% and maybe 15% though.
I'm one of the people who plays games for fun. Though recently, despite how bad I am at UMvC3, I've been trying to play online and get a little competitive.
MOstly to entertain myself.I like competitive play but to an extent.MOrtaL KOMBAt for instance was my childhood.Playing it at the arcades was a blast. But what thrilled me most was the wins i got.i celebrated mostly because of my perfomance in battle. All i want to do in fighting games is go online show and dispaly all my combos and strategies and then if fortunate win if not lose.
I only play Fighters as a hobby, but I'm somewhere in the 15% of players who plays the game for the competition and I enjoy learning stuff. I started with BlazBlue, and that game is so good for learning how to play Fighters. UMvC3 is a lot easier, I must say.
I was one of those crazy kids that attended to elementary school with a red headband, and when people said I was Rambo, I yelled at them That I was Ryu. I love fighting games because of a kind of Saiyan complex: I like to play against better players and I actually feel happy when I have a good fight, I don't care if I haven't played the game like Blaz Blue or Arcana Heart, when I see a good fight I want to become better. I'm not into frames, or kara-moves, I only like to kick some asses! ^w^
I play a wide variety of games, mostly the action/RPG genres.
I'm easily amused, I always try to enjoy everything, the characters, their designs/personalities, the stories, the eye candy, the gameplay). Regardless of how they are (from great to awful to fanhated), it takes quite a lot for me to really hate something (though I can still dislike it) probably because I'm easily amused (or in some character's case, want to understand)
Max I'd just like to let you know that I count myself as part of that 80% but I've been watching your videos and I think you're slowly pushing me more over to that 15% so I would like to say thank you very much kind sir. As I find these videos extremly helpful in how to play this crazy crazy game. (Now if only I could fiqure out how to activate X factor)
The real question is: 80% are (basically) scrubs, 15% are good/great, and 5% are pro, but what percent of the 80% want to become the 15% or the 5%? because I'm a member of THAT demographic.
Max I never played fighting I always got shooting games. I played the old street fighter and marvel vs capcom 2 back in the day but I never hot into it and when marvel vs capcom 3 was out I didnt know if I should get it because I love capcom and marvel and and then I found your channel learn some stuff and got the ultimate version now I am a fighter game fan. I am still now that good but I am having a blast
This is a question for anyone. I love video games and would really like to go into the designing side of them. But i am terrible at the likes of drawing and all that. is there jobs in the other aspects of video game development?
I love fighting games due to the extreme sense of creativity that comes with them and the feeling of success you get when you get something right. I enjoy almost every fighting game I play because of that aspect because as a kid I was always wanting to try something new and I was able to do that with fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom on the Dreamcast
haha the reason i got into mvc3, was cause i watched a video of it on youtube and felt i had to get vanilla because it seemed cool, it definitely caught my interest. Now im very new to the fighting genre so buying this and mortal kombat over the summer last year was quite the learning experience. I felt it was definitely worth purchasing and trying out
Very well said. I'll never forget my street fighter days in the arcade and when I taught my dad how to use blanks in street fighter 2. Screw the cult open the gate to the masses. Well said max.
I personally play fighting games cuz I just enjoy the competitive aspect of it. It's awesome when you have a group of friends who have the same competitive passion that you have and that's what appeals to me the most.
Thanks Max for posting this vid. I grew up with Street Fighter 2 as a horrible player. about 20years later I got myself a PS3 an bought Street Fighter 4. I sucked even harder in this game. After watching your videos I recognized that there is more about fighting games. So I started to improve. Thanks to all the dedication I have seen I really enjoy playing those games. Even while not winning. Thanks Max
I know what you're saying Max. I'm trying to get my friend into Blazblue but since he is short on cash he doesn't want to delve into a series he may not even like. I try but sometimes its hard sharing your love of certain genres with other people.
If fighting game developers want to appeal to a greater audience than they need more content in their games, it's that simple. Right now, capcom fighting games are so bare-bone that they wouldn't sell a single copy if they didn't already have dedicated fans. Make the next fighting game with a strong story that also explains game mechanics so that new players can actually have fun with the game. It's embarassing how so much of the information on how to play the game needs to be researched online.
I was terrible at MvC3 with a team I didn't even know, but then after seeing you videos I wanted to get better and stronger and now I win most of my battles in MvC3 and UMvC against players who play decently fair. But even though I can make 600k damage with my signature characters,I still have a hard time getting close to my enemies and show the combos. Keep away is fine, but if that is my only option, then I need help with things like that, this cannot prepare me for online players of that nature
I was apart of that 80%. I was drawn in by your videos and took a mean interest in this game. But I am sooooooo horrible in it. I mean I can tell im getting slightly better....but I just want to finally get good enough to get noticed ykno
well the game I play the most online is AE 2012 I love how street fighter is it's a really amazing game reasons for me playing that game over anything else are as follows its easy to learn hard to master fun combos it requires you to think opposed to calling out an assist to open up your opponent been playing the series for 12yrs i love how anybody can hop on & just play & enjoy the game i like the strategies involved i like pretty everything about the game & finally i love the scene for it
My first fighting game was Samurai Shodown but it wasn't until the VS series came up that I started playing 2D fighting games more seriously. Dat Street Fighter vs X-men games were the shit! And Capcom vs SNK was like a dream come true but I really don't like the roster in MvC3 and I hate Tekken. =/
In 2010 when I while I was reading my usual game informer I saw a Super Street Fighter 4 ad and I've fallen in love with fighting games ever since--although I loved Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a kid. I still play fighting games for the fun, the fighting engine, the combos and the salt.
Well, according to my parents I've been playing video games since I got control over my thumbs. I don't doubt them much either, I know nearly every major hit game that came out since 93. I would get a few quarters every day from my parents when they went to the store, and I would save up to play at the arcade. I played everything, Metal Slug, MvC, King of fighters, DDR, you name it. And ever since I've loved all types of games. Now at 20 I try my luck at tourneys and am now majoring in game des.
So the last fighting game I was good at was umk3 1000 years ago and the new game coming out last year sparked my interest and I stumbled upon Wednesday Night Fights which lead me to Evo which lead me to SRK which lead me to your channel.
I've been following MvC3 for a while now without actually playing it and your channel has motivated me to pickup UMvC3 and learn it.
Great videos Max! I like all the MvC games all the way back to MSH. Only "issue" with MVC3 is that light kick is the air launcher vs the traditional heavy punch but otherwise i'm cool with it. About Xmen vs SF, i feel u. Ppl still gravitate to that game, especially the 25-35 age group. I think the game doesn't come across as "childlike" like all the other MvC game series. No flashy backgrounds, helpers or Xfactor to make a cheap comeback. Simple all out brawl. Xmen vs Street Fighter II FTW!
Understand fully what u are saying Max. Started playing Marvel/Capcom games back in 96 when i came across Marvel Super Heroes. At that time, Xmen, Spiderman, Incredible Hulk and the Iron Man cartoon series were on tv. The incredible supers & gems drew me in. 3 years later at my local arcade while playing MSH, 2 machines down i noticed Xmen Vs SF. To this day that game draws a crowd. A year later, MVC1 was introduced where i became addicted for years. MVC2 wasn't available but WOW! the memories!
Great episode Max! I just love the thrill of successfully executing combos and figuring out the new tactics to win, as well as the excitement of the competitive plays :)
My love for fighting games I think came from my childhood because I remember playing alot of fighting games that were for the Playstation back then like, Jurassic Park Warpath, Marvel vs Capcom 1, Marvel Superheroes, etc.
the moment the music stopped and you were talking about sharing passion with other people truly got to me and spoke to me. Thank you Max for giving the 80% a voice.
I've been literally playing video-games, in general, since I was 4. Though Platformers are my main thing, fighting games definitely rate 2nd or 3rd. I started out with Smash Bros, and then, I stumbled upon a Youtube video that was Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Roll's theme. Since I was a BIG Megaman (and Capcom in general) fan, I decided to listen. I liked it, and asked my friend's opinion about it, and he said Amaterasu's MvC3 theme was better. I checked it out and loved it.
@1234PIE43215 And that's how I became a fan of Okami and Marvel vs Capcom. Phoenix Wright was also involved with my life. (Which is why I was a HUGE advocate for him to be in Ultimate) I've loved video-games ever since I was four; I wanted to be a lawyer. I decided to be a criminal lawyer like Wright, however, because I also loved video-games, I wanted to be involved. So, I've decided to be a Copyright lawyer.
Max, you've also inspired me to do this, through this video, I've been given confidenc
I think I'm part of the 20% as fighting games have been my go to online experience since I got me ps3. I started with Soul Calibur 2 then 3, after getting my ps3 I moved onto Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection and got hooked on that till SF4 then SSF4 and now I'm head over heals about MvC3 cause Deadpool is my favourite character from anything (you have no idea how much I appreciated the new assist me, thank you so much). Fighting games are just the best competitive gaming and long may they stand,
You know Max I love what you said at then end about you don't have to be justin wong to try and help other people in fighting games. I say the same thing about uploading vids. I always urge and encourage everyone to upload videos of their games online so that people can see and watch and maybe help each other. I am far from a great player but I do upload in hopes that someone out there will watch and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Problem is that youtube is full of negative(continued)
@TheC0unt5 people who instead of helping start calling you a scrub or a spammer or tell you that you shouldn't be uploading because you suck. I love fighting games and for the most part I do love the people I've in online but as far as youtube is concerned...there are way too many negative people who insult you unless you're some GOD at the game. It is sad and depressing to be honest. I do gotta say though that you do meet some awesome guys who truly try to help and for that makes it worth it.
I 100% agree with you about winning not being everything. Personally I'd rather lose most of the time in fighting games because its a learning experience and it helps me further develop my fighting strategies. Frankly I get bored of winning all the time, but when I lose I get exited because I know theres someone out there better than me and I have to train harder because theres more out there for me to discover. Its refreshing to know that theres someone out there who shares the same ideals as I
My first "true" fighting game was Street Fighter 4 even if I didn't get into the Street Fighter series until Super came out. I always enjoyed games that involved fighting, even if it was just one button for a "combo". I remember watching a video or a tutorial on a character I tried to main in Super Street Fighter 4 and it made me realize how much fun Street Fighter can be and I ended up going for other games. I really love the community though.
Hey Max, I personally believe that you should make a video showing us the work ( Drawings, game design, etc.) that you are working on. I would love to see what you produce in terms of drawings. I enjoy the amount of thought that goes into these games. Thumbs up if you would also be interested?
It is because of I grew up playing fighting games, and since it is one of my best gameplay, I developed a liking for Fighting Games because I usually just play for fun. ^^
I played growing up because I have lots of siblings and cousins to play with. Currently at around my age of 17-21 I focus on the detail of a fighting game without, what I feel is overboard, knowing the frame science or forcing myself to know the essential combos for everyone in Street Fighter games where there is no prescripted combos much like Mortal Kombat or the King of Fighters' Maximum Impact series. All I care about when I 'practice' fighting games are properties of attacks or specials.
Id like to say that i was never one for these kind of fighting games. I like the idea of MvsC3 but i ve seen all your videos for these game and its hype has gone through the roof for me. So much that i want to get a system JUST so i can play this game. Thank you Max. You made a difference in my gaming life.
I like seeing the different fighting styles and how other people use those characters the art style is always really cool too. the only thing I don't like is the time it takes to learn a game like third strike if I can only play vs noobs like me would be cool.so what if I have six fingers
In my case, it´s different from every1, in my case i didn´t play Street Fighter, i mean, it´s not my favorite game, but i don´t hate it, it´s...normal for me. My passion for fighting games started when i was 5 years old, with the 1st game of my favorite saga of fight games: Tekken. Then i get on SSB, which take me to that of Cartoonish characters with fight system work. That´s why i have bought EVERY Tekken & SSB. SF not to much bcz...well, anyway it´s complicated. See you!
I love fighting games for the depth of strategy that's present in them, even while sometimes things look simple and straight forward, there's always something that's beyond that. I wish I were more into fighting games than I am though, I'm not that great at them, and it tends to make me stray away from the competitive aspects, despite putting a lot of time in training modes figuring out combos and mechanics.
As I don't really count SSB the first fighting game I ever played was Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Fighting games had never really appealed to me before because I had only really seen burly and generic Ryu standing next to his recolor Ken; then I saw a video of Roll's level three and decided "OK, I have to try this out". Turns out I loved it and now I play many more fighters.
Of course now I always seem to pick little girls (BB Hood and Peacock recently) so maybe that might have been a bad intro.
The first fighting game I really got into was Super Smash Bros (laugh if you want to) on the N64. I rarely played fighters before that game because the learning curve was just to high for me. SSB has simple controls, that and the thought of me being Link and beating the crap out of Mario was enough. But after playing the game a lot with my friends, I started to search out local players. I got my ass kicked a lot, but just knowing that there was so many better players made me want to improve.
i buy fighting games because i love fighting games blazblue, mvc, streetfighter, king of fighters, and soul calibur these are the games i love playing and i may not be a good player like my umvc3 wins and loss is 14 to 43... i know :P some losses are from guys that play fair and most of my losses are from plain spammers and copying the same combo over and over :P it pisses me off how most people need to do these things to win :/ but i like playing fighting games for fun :D
Hey Max, I noticed that no one seems to be using Dr.Strange. He seemed good when the new characters were first released and now he doesn't seem to be used. Is he really a bad character or just rarely used? Are there to many other characters with low health that out rank him? Or is he too hard to use?
I think what makes me stop playing a single fighting game is the lack of a true indepth tutorial, games like Blazblue and Skullgirls are great for me because they REALLY tell you what everything does, what all these feature do, what characters can and cant do.
I wish I could get better, but games like Street fighter are confusing, I cant ever get the timing of anything, even simple stuff like cMk->Lp I cant do without spamming it about 50 times. theres no audio or visual cues for me to use.
I still remember that feeling when i started playing SF4 together with my friend. We were new to the genre ( because there is absolutely no fighting game community here in the Netherlands) and everything was so exciting.
Example:friend:Target combo? link a standing medium to heavy? just impossible. Me after trying for 10 minutes: WUUUUT! when you do it really fast it connects! mind blown. It was nooby, i know. but we advance together trough te ranks and are now decent players. It was great fun.
I agree with you on the art Max. I LOVE the Udon capcom art books. It blows my mind how many artists any given game has, and how much of the art isn't seen in-game. However, I also love learning a fighting game. The technical aspects, the strategy, the competition, it's all wonderful.
I love the genre, and there's definitely some nostalgia attached to the vs. series in particular. From plunking quarters at the arcade with my boyfriend for a couple hours, to grinding on the dreamcast to unlock stuff. I love fighting games, but I'm a better theory fighter than actual player. At the very leastI know what I'm doing when I press a button.
I use to be the 80 percent then I watched LOTS of tutoriol on lots of characters and I still need lots more info on certain chracters such as Dante I need to learn how to Stinger into Volcano like at 4:30
@maccajoe Let me think... yeah. Missed (missing) out on Disgaea (all of them), Sonic Unleashed (the GOOD version; I don't even count the Wii version as half a game), the new Sonic Generations, Gradius V, Persona 3 and 4, and some of the new fighting games (I never really cared for MvC2, hate me if you must).
If you're thinking Halo and CoD then I think you're mistaken. I do not find FPSes fun. I'm an old school gamer (8 and 16 bit) and I keep trying too hard not to die, which doesn't work. XD
@schwazala no not cod and halo nessicarily but there are some great mainstream games, ie batman arkham city skyrim, uncharted. Its 2012 bro let go 8 bit not coming back
@maccajoe "It's 2012 bro, get with da timezzz fo shizzle!" Pffff. XD You're cute. I just want to stare at your cute face and giggle at it and then treat you to ice cream. <33
'Cause your logic is silly and I like whatever I want to like. A'ight? A'ight. Now go make me a sandwich, cutie. n_n (Also, lawls for bringing up Batman, a DC super hero, in a video comments thread about Marvel. :D It's edgy, I like it.)
@schwazala Wtf are you talking about??? All im saying by you holding onto the past you are missing out on alot of great games. And why are you rambling on about cuteness and sandwiches im not a weebo you sure you're not a 11 year old kid? And so what if i talk about a dc character still dsnt deny the fact its probably the best superhero game ever created.
Man so many haters for a guy who is providing free content. Keep it up Max, I and others appreciate all the effort that goes into your productions. Your popularity is correlated with how many haters you have.
@MrBiocross I thought the change from Lord to Ranger only meant his statistics changed, meaning his balance in offensive, defensive, etc. Seems like he's the same rank just "style-changed" to me.
I loved playing fighting games when I was little and I think it will always be like that. I can play other games just fine but fighting games are just awesome especially with friends and family because you learn something new in every match. My little cousins play brawl but when I showed them UMVC3 they loved it for the characters which was why I like it.
i am the 80 percent, but i wish i could become part of the 15 percent so that the 5 percent could hear of my name and help the 80 percent become the 70 percent and the 15 percent become 20 percent and the 5 percetn become 10 percent!!!
Great episode! I definitely agree with you on playing simply because you love these games. I've been playing fighters since I was probably 7 years old with Street Fighter II, and it was always the little things, such as the character design, stages, and simply how much fun I was having that sucked me in. I've been taking my fighters more seriously and competing at occasional tournies since Vanilla MvC3, but I still play these games for the same reason I did as a kid; They're simply a blast!
I agree that we as a community need to be more inviting to new players. Most of us took years as kids to have the innate muscle memory that tells us how to get SRK isntead of fireball, etc. New players will get there, but only if we are welcoming and encouraging of baby-step progress.
Max: Would you consider doing a short breakdown of your recording setup? I don't know exactly what gear I need to record console stuff....
Ever since I played as Ryu for the first time, fighting games have been my favorite genre ever since. I also spend considerable time with RPG and Strategy games as well, but I prefer Fighting over all genres.
I think I speak for many of us when I say that I play for the hype! Doesn't matter if it's with your bros, playing online, watching a stream or even a youtube video of match. You just gotta have that hype and strive for more!
Very inspirational, Max. I'd have to say I play fighters because of the community. You say it's niche, but there is such a huge audience these days that there's room to produce quality content like the stuff you make. I don't own a stick, I'm not tournament level good either, but I feel like I'm part of a great scene, from the common player as you mentioned to the best of the best, we all need these community resources. Oh, and the hype. You've got to love the hype, too.
i got the first MVC3 because i learned it had the resident evil characters (yes that includes wesker, He has always been my Favorite Badass) i still play Jill Wesker Chris.
If your aim is to broaden the fanbase, I don't think it's an issue of "helping people understand" fighting games. This isn't theoretical quantum physics, most people understand it just fine. Sure there's things like crouch teching and option selects which might not be obvious to newer players but that sort of stuff isn't what drives people from the genre. Execution and timing barriers do. You old-timers may hate the idea, but it's the truth. I wish I could elaborate more but this field is tiny.
I got into fighting games about 2 years ago and before that I played sf2 and mvc2 when I was a kid bout 8 years ago. During that time I was good for a kid but I never delved deeper into fighting games untill mvc3. It was then that I realized that fighting games were much more deeper than I thought and I totally agree with you max 100%. When sf x tekken comes out, I will be totally prepared for it and can't wait but until then its Mahvel baby!
Now I don't mean to be rude, you seem to be very emotional about the topic you dodeca-posted over, but I don't appreciate you coming to this video to rant about how Max is a problem, just unsub and shut up. Now you may raise some interesting points but (I'm reading one of your posts now) "Characters, Music, and sound are all aspects of art beingslapped over the game etc." Honestly, if a fighting game just made the same"beep" noise for every single thing I did, and every other aspect--fuck it
As for Max, if you see a man heinously deceiving people, it's your moral duty to blow the whistle. It's not self righteous; it's what's right. In case you haven't been reading (or don't have the time) "Game News", it's all multiplicative garbage. The same core topics under differ masks and he's one of them, either he's really really stupid. You decide.
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge sorry sorry, I was in the middle of that post and realized what I was doing. You...you're very emotional over the topic, but you seem to be incapable of expressing yourself properly in your "Hype". I can't really tell what you're trying to say, but it seems like you're trying to disrespect everyone who's trying to help in the gaming community, if I'm wrong, sorry, but even if I'm not, I won't respond any more, because this conversation is going nowhere
...The only ones worse than you are the so-called "Gamer sites." Giving complete misinformation or bias reviews. Nothing short of lies. Not to mention many thesis' borrowed from either Witchcraft or New Age. Those are REAL problems. Address them! Not if the Game is about competition. The game is always about competition. It's the focus of the game. But that's a digress.
Finishing up, I don't know how much Capcom pays but really this could be done better. The Tournament Scene is Scam and B.S.
Leads back to yet another of the companies plots to "Hook" you.
Lastly leads me to you Max, You (like the voices of the "Tournament Scene") are an enabler. You help keep the wool over the eyes. Keeping them stupid and ignorant of the true problems about Games. Why not talk about the abuse of DLC and having content keyed out until you pay (in case you don't understand, you're paying for something twice), let alone imagery and themes. But this?? Really could you not think of a real topic...
Characters, music, and sound are all aspects of ART being slapped over the game. The GAME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THESE ASPECTS. THE GAME DOESN'T CONTROL THE OUT COME OR HOW THEY ARE USED. THE GAME IS A NO CONCERN TO THE ART THAT IS FITTED AROUND IT.
Personalizing the Game will give us what we have today: half-ass, satanic, poorly programmed Games 'cause people personalized themselves to the hero(in) so much that, if they don't like the Game then they don't like their hero(in). This is B.S...
...Completely stupid and dumb. People are living organisms with Souls; Games are just stupid machines that run on code--not logic. People are the collections of Grand Design of Jesus; Games are toys--YES TOYS--for the sole purpose of wasting time. Games are noting but a series of 1's and 0's. The Game will do nothing more than what it is told to do (by means of that is limited and further controlled 'cause it HAS TO BE TOLD HOW TO DO GIVEN INSTRUCTION).
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge Games are noting but a series of 1's and 0's. The Game will do nothing more than what it is told to do ,well thats called logic , mathematical logic, i get you point, but you should learn game theory,a game its a confrontation within a system with limitations and rules between 2 living and thinking organisms, its not dumb, its deep stuff.
@yogsothoth2099 It's not deep. It's not logic. And there is not such thing as Game theory. By the implement of "Game Theory" should only be used in the terms of the mythologizes of the Art around it. Not for the actual coding for the game. If there is a "theory" about Games then it could mean:
That the people creating the games are occultist and each game is made to influence your spirit; since the 1st meaning of Theory is Accepted knowledge that explains variety of...
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge Game theory is a mathematical method for analyzing calculated circumstances, such as in games, where a person’s success is based upon the choices of others. More formally, it is "the study of mathematical models of conflict and cooperation between intelligent rational decision-makers."[1]
@yogsothoth2099 Ha, the funny thing that you missed the part were this definition goes to political parties and military uses. The term you mean is "Theory of Games", which can be express in ANY form of game; thus making Fighting Games on the bottom (or near) again because of it's simple nature.
You're still missing the point of the argument. The guy used theory in terms of Growth to Life. I say it [fighting games] doesn't. In context this is about the meaning of theory and...
@yogsothoth2099 ...the role it can have associated with games, i.e. Fighting Games make you smarter. That's the source. The Personalization of an object that need not be attach to your emotion. Companies are cattle prodding people like you to the slaughter via use of deceivers like Max, Kotaku, and Shoryuken to name a few. these guys are as fake as Mike Romney or Ron Paul.
I suggest you wake up and learn the difference between game and life before it cost you big time.
@yogsothoth2099 ...circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena. Or that everyone who made a fighting game are copycats and they give us rehashed B.S.; since the 2nd meaning of Theory is a concept that is not yet verified but if was would explain certain facts and phenomena. Or a fixed idea of knockoff after knockoff to drill a certain philosophy into us; since the 3rd meaning of theory is a belief that can guide behavior.
It's not logic. It's coding. There's a difference. Coding isn't philosophy and most sure as hell don't analyze interference. Coding don't give reasoned or reasonable. Coding isn't principles that guide reasoning within a situation. And lasting it's not a system of reasoning. Coding is just the rules of the Game. Telling you both what can be done and what can't be done. If what you say is true MUGEN wouldn't exist or even work the way it does...
@yogsothoth2099 ...if what you say is true then the game will never glitch 'cause it wouldn't get confused. If what you say is true then games wouldn't need a programmer since they would be aware of reasoning hence self thought.
There's nothing deep about it. You press a button the CPU see and line it up with the 1 that corresponds to it. That's it. Fighting games are probably the most easiest games to make compared to the others out there. You want deep try Puzzles, FPS or Sims
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge To say fighting games arent deep is pretty much saying you havent explored the depth of play behind the competition of them. Try playing a top tournament player. They will crush you because they know more about the game. The skill gap in fighting games is very high. There is alot of strategy and execution to fighting games
@Kenmasterpiece You missed the context of dept that was being used, which is junction to growth in Life. Not to the configures of the rules and its inner workings. I suggest you reread to fully understand what I said. You REALLY MISSED THE POINT.
If you're talking about UMVC3, then no I will not get crushed. The games is overly simple and that's not including the glitches. ANYONE CAN DO THAT STUFF AND WITH EASE. If you're gonna make an Idol at least make sure it's not a bull.
Argument: TELLING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ART AND VIDEO GAMES! Video games are NOT IN ANY WAY ART! and NEVER WILL THE BE CONSIDERED ART! THE PURPOSE OF VIDEO GAMES ARE TO ENTERTAIN WITH THE THOUGHTS OF USING GIVEN MEDIUM AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. NOTHING ELSE NOTHING MORE! Arts are representations of their creator(s). ART HAS A MEANING, SUBLIME TRUTHS, OR AGENDA. WHETHER THEY BE GIVEN OR HIDDEN. IT IS THERE! The blurring of the two is the result of trying to identify with the game itself! This is...
THINGS THEY ENJOYED. Not because the game will make them a better person or the game will make them smarter, or the game will give them confidence, etc. People buy Capcoms Crossover because they can fight as their favorite hero(in)es and/or Villain. That's the SOUL reason it was marketed on in the distant days of "old".
The System, in purchasing, comes second. Not the vice-verso. Which is Ironic 'cause the system is what gonna keep the person; but that's a digress. Leading to the next...
@yogsothoth2099 Fighting Games in no way make you smarter. They don't push the brain no farther than doing color matching. You know what's like Chess? Chess. You want to know what's like Brain gymnastics? Brain Age, Puzzles, FPS, and [dare I say it] Wii Sports and other body motion games. Those are actually helping and expanding the capabilities of the Brain. Understand when your love for something is clouding your reasoning of it 'cause this is a sure case of being stupid.
fighting games are the essence of true and fair competition..they are the last genre of games that stay "fun to play" even while loosing(rematch is 2 seconds away, and you will keep at it)..everyone starts on the same level at the beginning: your weapons are not better..your armor doesn't matter..your car isn't faster, your cards deck is the same and so on => skill+smarts will get you wins, not better stat's..fighting games will test everything you got :wits, patience, learning ability and passion.
Theres just something about fighting games man....i used to only play mvc and tekken...but now ive picked up blazblue and kofIII....i play fps and stuff but nothin beats landing a difficult combo...breakin someones block with a nasty mixup...imma end it with a hyper...no wait! Reset! The mindgames...blue blazes it awesome!
...from t-shirts to the more frequent used phrases.
Going to your question [Why people play fighting games] (which I find kinda dumb), in response to it; because of Novelty. I find it comical that you would ask so on a game, who's soul attraction IS novelty. This is the reason for ANY GAME. There's no "inner meaning" or "Personal awaking" of a purchase of ANY GAME. People went for UMVC3 the same they went for CVS, which is the same reason they went for XCOA: BECAUSE IT HELD ASPECTS FROM...
What the companies want you to see and think what they want you to think. When a glitch or poorly design pops up in a game, don't complain or be angry 'cause the Tournament Scene is their to explain away the problem (by excusing it) and/or ignore it like it's to be expected; like it was planned from the start.
There are TONS of evidence to not trust the "Tournament Scene". Given thought to perhaps it serves a more evil purpose with the implements of New Age Nonsense popping up here and there...
...The gaming companies, from which how much they profit off such an medium: They save crazy money on the "Tournament Scene" on free advertising, "Hook" people to their brands via aiming to their consumers emotions, controlling negative feedback using the "Connect with the Community B.S.", and permission to grind out half-completed products for a quick buck (only to charge you as they release the full thing at FULL OR RETAIL PRICES).
The Bias of the "Tournament Scene" make sure you only see...
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge Can you take your Jesus stuff and move it to another video? You dont see athiests preach on thier philosophies on gaming videos, so you shouldnt preach yours.
@Kenmasterpiece Oh dude, yes I do. Go to Gawker. You don't understand Atheists philosophies much do you? Anyway...when you see witchcraft, New Age and the very denial of Christ in games from top companies (either blatant or hidden) I'm pretty sure you have a right to complain. My rant is toward the droplets of such theists as an under handed way. If you want to send people to Hell, by all means; but at least be straight with the people about it.
@BlueMageWithSoulEdge Im not an athiest, but its stupid that christians can bring up thier religion all the time (such as on this video in the comments section repeatably by you) while others that are wiccan, athiest can never bring up thier religious beliefs without being shunned or bitched out.
@Kenmasterpiece We are the most ATTACKED GROUP OUT THERE. FROM POLITICS USURPING OUR IMAGE TO MEDIA LIES, WE ENDURE MOST OF THIS WITHOUT SOUND NOR CHARGE; BUT LET JUST ONE ATTACK (EVEN THE WEAKEST) BE THROWN THE OTHER WAY AND IT'S MASSIVE WHINING AND PUSHES FOR RIOTS. You say you don't see the others "complain" because the others are F'ING CELEBRATED AMONG THOSE PAGES AND MEDIA. When was the last time you seen a PRO-Christ game openly acknowledge Jesus?
@Kenmasterpiece By doing such manipulative things and with such coyness, they are calling, assuming, treating you as if you are a F'ing retard. This should home offense in your dignity. That they will so easily ply on your emotions AND try betray your trust. This should be the alarm for you especially if you have a wife and children.
Or perhaps you fancy the fact of being seen as stupid dollar bills.
I do like fighting games but theyre far and away my worst genre, I'm good at fps and I get in at about the top 10% of rts but fighting games kind of elude me. I'll start checking your vids, see if I cant find that missing piece.
Truthfully speaking every episode, in which you speak of "matters", tells me you are full of B.S.
The "community" will NEVER be "open" nor get rid of its "hostility" because of the people in the "Tournament Scene". If you want something to grow, you HAVE TO TAKE YOURSELF OUT OF THE TOPIC. As long as you try to push it as a "Personal Experience" it will ALWAYS result in Hipster mentality. Given that's probability of what the "Tournament Scene" is meant for; not for me or the "Gamer" but for...
Max, I can honestly say that your videos have furthered my passion for fighting games have made me want to become a better gamer. Your passion has reflected off me and I am passing it off to my friends. And for that I thank you Max.
The greatest thing about the fighting game community, and why I strive to be a part of it, is the passion that all of us share for the same thing. I almost shed a manly tear while reading some of you guys' comments. Anything that can bring together such a diverse community of people is something that this world needs more of.
"Winning is important that day, but in the grand scheme of things, what's more important to me is making this into something bigger than it was before." --Gootecks
I don't play this game. I've played Super Smash Bros Melee since I was 8 years old, and just got into the community last summer, when I was old enough. Watching your videos makes me wanna play this game, and I appreciate all the entertainment and motivation you give me. I love your focus, and it's nice to see a gamer that has aspirations. Keep making videos, and keep reminding me of what I love to do.
I grew up playing all sorts fighting games umk3 to killer instinct (classic). I play umvc3 and ssf4ae and most popluar realeases. the art is really amazing nowadays( btw i'm in art school , 2 years left) I am a huge fan of game art, and some storylines are as good as movies, RE5 gold it's like your playing feature film. Entertainment, stress relief. inspiration,
I remember this in the Street Fighter book and agreeing with it: with fighting games, gamers became, almost spiritually so, the soldiers and warriors of lore battling out their hearts for the pride of their existence and it was in a fun and safe format (no one actually has to throw their physical fists, except maybe in the cases of extreme trolling). You get to feel the sense of urgency for victory and the battle with these games that isn't readily found in real life--there's vindication there.
I'll tell you. For me it's not only the MvC series, it's this one in particular. I've played nearly every fighting game I've heard of, but MvC3 (and UMvC3 by extension) draws me in for some reason.
I overheard some people talking about Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe recently, and it was clear that they were just playing it to see what their favourite DC characters could do in a fight. There's a wide range of fighting game fans out there, and the uber competitive types need to realise that some people just want to have fun.
I got into MvC3 because I loved Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, but very few people played that. I can't stand playing against randoms, so it's all about playing friends for me.
When i first got a ps1 when i was like 8 my uncle gave me some games which were mostly capcom like strider 1 and 2, mvc1, marvel super heroes vs street fighter, street fighter 2 and alpha 2, jojo bizzare adventure, dark stakers. And my love for mvc2 when it came out for arcade ive always loved fighting games i always loved them and i love alot of capcom games thats why am a big fan of ssf4 ae and umvc3. But ive always wished that capcom would bring all my favorite games back cause i can remenise
Damn!! I realy LOVE the fighting games, I really do.
I'm from Mexico and I REALLY want to participate in important events like the EVO, but I guess I have a lot to learn before I can stand a match against all of them!
I'm only 13, so I havent really had the opportunity to go to EVO yet no matter how much I want to. I wouldn't go to EVO to compete or anything, but to see the pros in action, and to experience the hype. I barely found out about the MvC games, so I wouldn't say I'm the most passionate about them, but I would say I love and appreiciate the game and I hope I could be as good as you someday Max.

Pretty damn pro

I'd say I'm in the "Good" Tier, but yea. Fighters are more about depth than just gameplay, tbh.

I started out with Smash Bros, and then, I stumbled upon a Youtube video that was Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Roll's theme. Since I was a BIG Megaman (and Capcom in general) fan, I decided to listen.

Or is he too hard to use?
gamemasterbob9 1 month ago

XD

I can play other games just fine but fighting games are just awesome especially with friends and family because you learn something new in every match.

@yogsothoth2099 It's not deep. It's not logic. And there is not such thing as Game theory. By the implement of "Game Theory" should only be used in the terms of the mythologizes of the Art around it. Not for the actual coding for the game. If there is a "theory" about Games then it could mean:

@BlueMageWithSoulEdge Game theory is a mathematical method for analyzing calculated circumstances, such as in games, where a person’s success is based upon the choices of others. More formally, it is "the study of mathematical models of conflict and cooperation between intelligent rational decision-makers."[1]

@yogsothoth2099 Ha, the funny thing that you missed the part were this definition goes to political parties and military uses. The term you mean is "Theory of Games", which can be express in ANY form of game; thus making Fighting Games on the bottom (or near) again because of it's simple nature.

Try playing a top tournament player. fighting games are the essence of true and fair competition..they are the last genre of games that stay "fun to play" even while loosing(rematch is 2 seconds away, and you will keep at it)..everyone starts on the same level at the beginning: your weapons are not better..your armor doesn't matter..your car isn't faster, your cards deck is the same and so on => skill+smarts will get you wins, not better stat's..fighting games will test everything you got :wits, patience, learning ability and passion.
