  • Very Good song, great writting and singing.

  • Great job you are so talented. This song could not be more timely. I've been there but am doing alright now. Not the time to feel sorry for yourself. Not looking for a handout but could use a hand up. Great sentiment to this song

  • made me feel all warm inside:)

  • Well everyone else here can just go bye-bye because I lovelovelove this song and have been sitting here listening over and over.

very love, and the kind of thing I would write myself (I also play and sing and write)...and I have BEEN there...where the character in the song is

    hugs

    Moon

  • Well I lost my job last week thanks to a stubborn cow called recession so am I lazy? I think not, I feel the sentiment here.

  • Good stuff, well done.

  • Thanks so much!

  • I love this - so infectious. If it was the 60's, this folksy-pop ditty would be quite popular, I think, especially with the great meaningful lyric to boot.

Love the upbeat vocal styling, and I'm always a sucker for a yodel figure or two, especially in the context of a neat song like this.

  • Thanks for your comment, DrMalPracktiss! This is one of my favorite songs to sing because of the "yodel" thing! :) Glad you like it.

  • Love this one too - as always!! :-))

    You're wonderful!

    ~Rich

  • I truely love this song. The only 'laziness' these people suffer from is being too 'lazy' to fight to improve their life and conditions

And the light video goes along very well :)

  • cool song:) beautiful video!!

    5*****

    best wishes

    jesse

  • Leesha-

This might be your best video yet. Amazing song and an amazing video. Great message.

  • nice one:)

  • The song's not bad. I'm not crazy about the message your video comments are sending though. It is in fact mostly the same people we keep seeing show up at the food pantry day after day. I had a friend in the National Guard who got sent to New Orleans after Katrina. He was authorized to offer jobs to a room full of people that would have lasted a couple of months at $15 an hour to work on cleanup crews. Not one person raised thier hand. Not exactly surprising considering the area.

  • Hmmm... thanks for proving my point. :)

  • Actually I think you just proved his. Good tune though.

  • I know just what you mean. We always see the same people, often for years at a time, coming to the church asking for money. They hit all the churches in town and then at the first of the month will do it again. If you tell them you've got some job they can do around the place to earn some money they make some excuse and leave. It's nice when you find someone that really is down on their luck and just need a leg up but I find that's usually not the case.

  • My point is that we should not stereotype people in poverty, because we don't know the circumstances that got them there. You can give anecdotal evidence for people that are poor and don't want to work... I can give you plenty of anecdotal evidence for people that are poor that DO work, sometimes more than one job, and try to live within their means, and still come up short. That's especially true in this economy, where the cost of living is skyrocketing by wages are stagnant.

  • And of course, if you are not struggling financially, it's easy to point the finger at those that are and say, "Just work harder." That doesn't help, nor does it address the issues that brought those hard times. Sure, you have people coming to your church asking for money that don't want to work. But I would bet (unless you live in Yuppyville) that there are people WITHIN your church that are one paycheck away from losing their home or one medical bill away from bankruptcy.

  • same here. I work at time for a food mission and the 'working' poor don't want the hand outs, its the don't want to work poor that do. Now there are those that are really NEEDY and we do everything we can for them. I try to find the working poor and help them in some way.

I do VERY much see Leesha's point as there are many one check away from the streets that are the WORKING poor. Only a real change in Washington is going to fix that.

McCain / Palin will bring that reform.

    agomusfr (.) org

  • I agree with that.

And I'm not a big McCain fan, but he beats the competition by a longshot. The only thing Obama is good for is getting you a tip from his Chicago mobster friends about who's going to win a local horserace.

  • gmdinformation-

"Not exactly surprising considering the area."

When I said you proved my point, I meant that you are lumping all poor people into the same group and assume that every single one of them is lazy. Unless you meet every single person in "the area" you are referring to, that's a heartless statement to make.

Thanks for promoting discussion on here, though! :)

  • "When I said you proved my point, I meant that you are lumping all poor people into the same group...."

I never once said "all poor people"; I said "mostly the same people".

You miss the point of generalities and stereotyping. Those are never comprehensive terms, but rather are always general rules of thumb. Rules of thumb always have exceptions. Those can go without saying between intelligent adults. Stereotypes get to be stereotypes because there's usually a lot of truth in them.

    Gotta go.

  • I understand what you are saying about stereotypes--that there often is a bit of truth in them. I'm contending that there are far more exceptions to this rule than we often expect... enough exceptions that the stereotype is no longer a valid or useful framework for approaching these issues. Challenging the stereotype is necessary if we ever hope to have a compassionate, constructive approach to addressing poverty, whether through public policy, non-profit groups, or even local churches. :)

  • I do apologize for saying "all" instead of "most." :)

I did want to say that I used to think as you do on this issue... until we came upon hard times ourselves. Two government programs (Medicaid & SCHIP) were incredibly helpful for us and kept us from going bankrupt with medical bills. I've met many other families that have been in the same boat. Some of the hardest working people I know are also some of the poorest. So life has changed my perspective on this issue quite a bit. :)

  • "Those can go without saying between intelligent adults. ":

Actually, I think it needs to be said regularly.

I don't know ANYone who enjoys poverty.

    Most Muslims are not terrorists.

    Most Blacks are not lazy.

Most Americans don't want continued genocide.

    Most Mexicans aren't thieves.

Most pot smokers aren't shiftless bums.

    Most university students aren't anarchists.

Gotta keep saying these things over and over.

  • I've never in my 49 years heard a single person say "most" to any of these things. So yeah, I think all this can go without saying.

  • On the contrary, it sounds like it needs to be said more frequently and more clearly if you've never heard it before, young feller.

  • Humans are no different from the rest of the animal world when it comes to having distinct character traits. No one ever accused blacks as a whole of being industrious, but people have said for years, "Give a Chinaman 3 square yards and he'll put up a factory." And it's true; the Chinese have a gift for industry. No one ever accused the English of being great cooks, and you won't find many English cookbooks. You will, however, find many such books about French, Italian and even Mexican cooking.

  • Hey Leesha! I think there is lots of further songs, waiting to be written with such sources of inspiration (and maybe be banned on a CD :p)! Keep up the good work! Once again, a song with meaningful and touching lyrics...

  • Keep writing.Good shit.

  • Nice! Whata Catchy hook! reminds me of the Indigo Girls a bit... Only better!

  • I don't think you could be any more adorable than you are in that green dress, with your guitar, man. Your sound and your look work together and have me loving you.

  • What a cute music video! Great job Leesha!

  • Amazing !!!!!!

  • Great, timely. Good choice on your approach to the video. The gentle comedy doesn't distract from the song's power.

  • Awesome!...

  • Good song. Love the video, too! Five stars and added to my favourites.

  • Great job Leesha! Some people just don't understand when you have to make a choice between food or gas. Some people have never had to choose which utility gets to stay on and which one gets shut off. I hear where your coming from as I have been there. peace

  • it sounds amazing and its about something.. exactly the type of song i'm used to hearing from you and i still love it!

    5 very big stars!

liked the video a lot too!

  • Wow, you're talented, five stars to u

  • Three hundred million stars, Leesha.

One for each good soul in this good country, even if the love in some of them is more well-hidden than in others.

I wish I could give more.

    Thanks so much for posting,

    Richard (._.)

  • Hey Leesha, sad how my dad worked full time and fed a family well. Nowadays, it takes two, and that don't even cover it. Not sure what the Oil reference is as milk cost more, yet takes less to produce. Although oil profits are in the billions, so are their cost. I doubt it cost billions to bring coffee into this country, but a 20oz reg cost $1.50 x 6 of those in a gallon = $9. But no one complains about that! And if we were to complain, it should be at Venezuela, Mexico, and Canada. (._.)

  • It's my understanding that grocery costs are going up in part to increased fuel costs... if it costs more to transport the food to the consumer, then the cost has to be passed onto the consumer. I could be wrong about that though. Plus, it's much more fun to portray big oil than, say, the dairy or coffee industry! ;-) Ha, ha!

  • although it is more fun to yell at someone that produces a non-pleasure good, i think the yelling needs to be at those countries we get oil from. Our top importer is Canada followed by SAUDI ARABIA, MEXICO, and VENEZUELA.

I would think it to be more prudent to yell at the car industry for such poor performing vehicles.

Also, oil net profit is 9.7%, which is NOT that high. Google is 25%. So when you hear 24 Billion in profit, that is not much when stacked against $250 billion industry.

  • Suncor's 2007 net profit margin was 15.79%, CEO salary was $3,480,000, COO $1,090,000, CFO $764,000, Excutive $1,060,000.

Boo Hoo, poor guys, how can they live on a budget like that.

  • Let's yell at Government and Big Business

who stand in the way of clean energy

because there are a few dollars still to be made

before we're all sick and starving.

It's not up to other countries

to export their resources for US wastefulness.

  • A lovely song Leesha! Loved the background harmony, that was done very well!

    ~David

  • That was a 5 star song/video in everway!

    Richard

  • hey there, leesha - you're so gifted! keeping up with the subscription even if i don't post. enjoying all of your uploads & this is only the beginning of a very successful youtube inspired dream. great job with the video, look forward to more! (o:

  • I am at least 20 years older than Leesha, and have much more life experience and observations, and I'd say she is wise beyond her years. A huge number of Americans are only a month away from being on the street... even those who are working two jobs. We were doing just fine until we encountered some big medical bills... One heart attack and stent surgery costs $52,000 - that is exactly what we paid for our house! Thanks Leesha for your awareness and creativity. :)

  • Well said, ConnieRee.

It's sure nice to have the sort of life

that allows one to judge others so harshly.

    Cawalabe, please enlighten us

by posting an awesome video with YOUR wisdom.

All I found on your youthful channel

    was unintelligible noise.

  • Cawalabe-

I'm not sure how old you think I am, but I'm married with children and have lived more than enough life to write from experience. This isn't some theoretical, abstract concept for me... it's something I've lived through. I understand it well enough.

  • great song, leesha. am sure this will hit home with a lot of people today. vocals are terrific!

  • Excellent job, Leesha! Very nice, sounds great - keep up the good work! I think it's about time they invent the neverending piggy bank, always spilling coins out...

  • That was awesaome Leesha! Obama should use that one on the campainge trail!

  • I dearly hope people will soon wake-up to see the Obamanation and Mafio Joe for the crooks they truly are. You might want to check out a blog called Chicagoans Against Obama where his mob ties are spelled out plainly for all to see.

  • Very talented songwriter! be blessed:)

  • great production..very imaginative...apeman swung by...peace 5*

  • That's pretty good!!! You did a great job.

  • Very very very good. I loved the message, the video you made and the tune! What a very true statement. Keep it up.

  • Very enjoyable. What can I do is a question that I have been plagued with a long time. This song seems to continues a theme that you have touched upon in other songs (ie, 40 feet, Patience to endure, Penny in the pocket) Keep up the fishing. ;)

  • Very entertaining! Perfect for the times we are in..

  • like always. amazing Leesha Harvey. keep up ;))

  • good one leesha--I have to work all the time for things I cant afford but...what can I do?

  • Great song,Great Lyrics,Great Voice,lovely harmonies!Well Done!

  • 50 Stars! You are a peach!

  • You really commented on a serious issue effectively with this song, great job!

  • This is really great! Keep on rocking :)

  • You just get better and better, Leesha. I think you may add actress to your list of accomplishments, too. You do a pretty good J.R. from "Dallas"! Thoughtful lyrics, offset by a happy melody and punchy rhythm. Your backing vocals were great, also. It's always a pleasure to find something new by you here. ;-) Jon

  • Cool new song. Great video too lol!

  • ... so true. :-/

  • hey my idols Scibs and Kali just wrote... cool... hi Leesha - I'm just discovering you... catchy song... and luved the message... hope it wasn't my parents that emailed you... I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 2 years now... they don't get it.

  • How much can I say that I LOVED THIS without having to retype it over and over to make my point clear...What a great message and song...At this point in my world, luckily the wisdom of being not impressed by people and pretty much stomped out most of my past mind strongholds. Really helps when people dont understand what the poor go through...

Appreciated your humor in this too...~Raven

  • Thanks so much, Raven!

  • Wow, you're an actress, too? *lol* Great job on both video and song, Leesha!

    ~Scribble

  • There's a great message in this song Leesha. Very good production too. I love all the vocal layering you've done. And it's a catchy melody. I'll probably be bopping my head around to it for the rest of the day now :) Thanks for sharing!

  • toootally agree! the chorus sounds terriffic and if you sit there and think about how hard it is to do a good recording like this at home... chapeau!

  • Wow... So brilliant.

  • Great song/video, Leesha. Thanks!

  • You're welcome! :)

  • Terrific song one again. Love the Riding high character. Should have lit that cigar for full effect, just don't inhale.lol

  • Ha, true! My kids were watching and were mortified that I even held it in my mouth, so lighting it might have been a little too much! I think the cigar needed to be bigger, but the gas station only had Swisher Sweets. Heh.
