  • First time I've seen left-handed draws and back draws. First time I've seen a lot of these techniques demonstrated at all. Idk if you've done them poorly, but I don't see these "youtube sensei's" posting vids of themselves doing any better!!! :P

  • do you respect in your swords ?

    walk ?

    you crab

  • @Airyu200

isnt it amazing how it seems evey single person on youtube is a kenjustsu master and knows all about flawless technique and cant point out everything your doing as wrong but somehow they themselves never have any videos of proper performance. this just boggles my mind. Who knew there were so many prodigies here on youtube?

  • I also commend the frame of mind to go against traditionalists. If one's "soul" is their tool/weapon, then by breaking their weapon you've broken their soul. By using traditionalist movement against them with innovative strategies will often wreck someone who's spent years doing the same things over and over. Many innovative martial artists will point out that by following strict traditionalist guidelines that predictability becomes paramount.

  • @IcabodCrane I agree, the tradition is supposed to be a frame for the martial artist in order to develop his own style and skills

  • Impressively quick reverse draw. I find it funny how so many people believe they'd look any better while trying to do an instructional video for youtube flawlessly. Cameras and recording devices for artist of any kind make it a lot more difficult than just doing so in a frame of mind without, simply because if you mess up it makes you believe you look far more foolish than you actually do.

  • Thanks for the demo. I realize that doing so many different techniques in such a short span can be difficult. I wouldn't mind seeing a fully prepared presentation, as my interest in iaido comes from seeing and practicing aikido.

  • Not bad skills, keep do a lot of practice.

  • "A good stance and posture reflects a proper state of mind." Morihei Ueshiba

  • I propose that you start a whole new ryu of scabbard throwing.

  • Using the saya "as a projectile" is actually not that sound of a choice the way you are doing it. Chances are if you cut to project it, the sword will get stuck in the saya, if its sharp. Pushing the saya off straight towards an opponent however i can see. I dont have a problem with anything else, it seems you are simply playing with techniques and applications. Do you perhaps do Kali? Your wakizashi work seems more philipino than Japanese. Anyways, keep training hard!

  • Ridiculous

  • as a samurai we dont throw the scubboard when we draw the sword. !

  • Fearful? No the word your looking for is "sensible". If you post videos on YouTube expect to get flamed, which is why I choose not too. You sound like a very angry and upset human being, maybe you should sitdown and talk through your problems...

  • Sorry, I dont debate with frauds.

But just to clear up the concern you expressed about my emotional state that you attempted to extrapolate from text, I'm laughing at you. The closest I can come to anger in regards to you is mild contempt for your cowardice.

Also, it doesnt matter if you avoid using the 'reply' button to address me, rather than just leaving a new comment. I'll see what you say, and mock you for the reasons I stated above anyway.

  • Yagyu Shinkage Ryu is one Ko-Ryu where the saya is thrown, However there was no discipline behind any of your kata.

Almost like there was no confidence.

  • Interesting video. But i'm in agreement with the majority here, you have no soul. the katana is not a tool, it is an extension of yourself, ur a tool if you think otherwise. The cuts have no purpose, your stance has no purpose. It's as if youve thought "I've got some cool ideas" and posted them in a video. My iai school are taught distraction techniques but we like to keep your souls close by. Have a think about why you use a katana. Dont ask me to post a video, its petty and galvanizes my point

  • If you were half the man you are attempting to posture yourself as here, online, you wouldnt feel the need to make negative comments, that serve the sole purpose of inflating your own ego.

That, coupled with the fact that you are too fearful to post a video of yourself to substaniate any claim that your words and your training are worth a damn make me feel very sorry for anyone who has ever taken a word you have to say as the truth, "gomo".

  • you have no penis

  • Iaito can be made from an aliminium alloy, stainless steel or carbon steel.

depends where you buuy them from, cheness make nice carbon steel ones but hanwei make realy nice stainless swords,

then thers custom iaito you can get wich can come in 1060, T10, 9260 or folded steel.

Depends what your prepared to spend.

  • ugly chiburi, tell me why are you shaking the blade?

  • I love the "battery empty" symbol that suddenly shows up... :D

  • A perfect metaphor for this clip.

  • i think, it is performed to casual

  • Somehow, drawing your sword and 'using the saya as projectile' seems wrong to me.

  • It's actually an excellent set up to another attack. I've been doing martial arts for many years now, and I've attended numerous self defense seminars, and one of the simplest, yet effective means of distracting an opponent to either throw in an attack of your own or run away is to throw a bunch of change in their faces. If you do that saya throwing technique quickly, and they don't realize it's the sheath flying at them, they may panic for just a brief moment, and that alone can turn a battle.

  • True. Though it seems disrespectful.

That's what i meant by wrong. I'm sure it is effective, no doubt. But just... not right!

  • I agree with super. There are ko-ryu's in wich the saya is used to offend/defend, but never thrown (I might be wrong, of course). Musashi: "you are dead, Ganryu: no winner throws his scabbard away!"

  • you use the saya in eishin ryu iaido, mugai ryu and katori shinto ryu. there are many ko-ryu that use the saya

  • The Bujinkan philosophy is different. There are no winners, just survivors. And you should not be too attached to your weapons.

  • not criticizing, but if those are shinken then you're a brave/dumb guy, i dont think they are though, are they? drawing a live blade too quickly can lead to it cutting through the saya and probably your hand also, you should respect the swords a little more, if not for you own sake then for anyone standing within a mile of you(ha ha).

  • It's an Iaito made of aluminum I believe. That's what we usually used for Iaijutsu.

  • nice job, better than most iv seen. unclean needs to STFU, he probably just knows what he THINKS he knows from watching too much tv. though theres no sound, u did very well ;)

  • pretty kool with the reverse draws but i muchrather use the saya projectile techniques better if i were in a duel.

  • ah ah ah, very funny. what's that, a joke?

  • hey is that a koryu or something you just made up?

  • ok every1 whos saying that this guy is terrible and havn't posted anything about any sword styles stfu cause even though this guy isn't the best atleast he posted something better than u

  • No control. Wrong mind.

  • Yeah, I'm a big fan of Toshiro Mifune also. I guess if I watch enough Chambara movies, I'll be a pretty good swordsman too.

  • Hi Unclean6666,

No offense taken from a 12 year old behind the keyboard, maybe you can enlighten us all with your videos?

thanks for all of your comments!

  • You truly area fool.

  • What was the point of this demo?? Showing how to ruin a saya or how to perform sloppy cuts? If so..congrats on a job well done! I'm surprised you haven't cut your own head off...maybe that's an idea for your next video?

  • More great cooments, of course you know so much more than I, and the poor defenseless saya.....please idiots any time you want to do a side by side demo I am available, or if you prefer tameshigiri work we could do that as well.

  • Dude, get rid of the t-shirt and find yourself a juban.

  • poor saya...!

  • Thanks for all of the comments! Please read the upcoming Sword article on my website that I am sure will stir a few feathers in the "traditional" Iai/Kenjutsu world!!

  • Hey, I loved your demo. You already seem to know not to let the bastards get you down, so I'll skip that...sorta lol.The saya-fling is very nice and it means that a sword is (in whole, not just in part)a tool. There's not really a name for what I was taught that isn't a ridicule magnet, but I was taught to do that and much worse with a saya...both for it and whatever target(s)...just post more vids, damnit!

  • I never get it with these guys. I see a western man in hakama with daisho so what! But showing casual and sloppy drawing and cutting, occasionally adding a second cut. He never does chibri then follows up with an equally sloppy notouh, not done in any attempt to copy any particular pedigree of any bona fide school and even flings his saya away in couple of( not wasa) demos. Whats the point of this, vanity?

  • the only part i didnt like was with the scabbard being thrown about the place.

  • Remember, when you cut, you're trying to kill. I could be wrong, but it looks like you're making these cuts with your arm when you should be using your body. The left handed draws were interesting though.

  • I agree, the cuts were very weak. Your arms will only have so much power... each strike needs to have proper use of your whole body~each strike must contain your heart.
