2. this camera has better quality than some of the cameras people use today
3. maybe it's me, but it seems like the 4000s don't buzz like this anymore (maybe not as loud at least, with the buzzing being drowned out from the nearby Alstrom/CAF cars)
4. If anyone is looking for these 4000s, check the red line, I see them there ALL the time
I wish I could go to the early 90s as a 21 year old and not an infant
I remember riding the DC Metro in the mid 90's. I'm one of the few people who don't miss that "buzzing" sound.
I like the sound the newer trains make better. Plus, once you go inside its like totally quiet other than tunnel and track noises. I also like the new color scheme and LED desination signs. Its more modern. I love the new trains.. I can't wait for all the old ones to leave.
I was 7 years old in July 1994; it would've been really cool if I was born 20 years earlier (which would have made me aged 27 at the time and had been a working man for 10 years); I would've really enjoyed riding the original Breda 2000/3000 Series train cars with the legendary brown rubber-coated handrails, those were probably the signature train cars on Metrorail (even though the Rohrs were the very first cars from '76). BTW, there's a pretty blonde girl near the end of this video.
I actually remember riding DC Metro almost daily during the 1990s as a kid. And for some reason, I always considered the Breda "buzzing" trains my favorite to ride on. The new ones aren't as nostalgic. I'd really like it if Metro brought back those kind of trains.
4000 series cars still buzz, just as they did when this video was shot 14 years ago (has it really been that long, I'm getting old). Anyway, If you want to here buzzing, catch a ride on the 4000 series cars now because the buzzing maybe gone in 4 years (which will be a sad day because I too remember the buzzing from my childhood).
The reason why 4000 series cars still buzz is because they aren't 20 years old (yet). Delivery started in 1991 (and probably carried on over into 1992). Every time I take a Metro trip I always look forward to hearing 4000 Bredas still buzzing in the glory of their Early 90's technology.
Their not in revenue service, I saw two at the Alexandria yard. Ironically right next to them I saw two pre-rehab Rohr cars that still has roll signs.
being a dc native with no car, I think they should make more stations WITHIN DC, notably the northern parts...a majority of the stops are for commuters to come into dc, WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE!!! For crying out loud there is no stop for Georgetown!
Yeah. DC metro is extensive but not extensive enough. Have smaller trains or shuttles like they have in New York go to areas like Georgetown. Then let it take you to Foggy Bottom or Farragut West.
They had this discussion before when mapping out the system. The reason why they didn't have a station in Georgetown is because people would worry that it would bring crime from other areas to the sections of Georgetown. That's why the closest station is Foggy Bottom GWU.
LOL the way the Bredas used to be...before they were given the "doors opening" and "doors closing" announcements, before they got Rohr door chimes....and WAY before they were rehabbed by Alstom to be, well, just like the Alstom cars.
I'd bet that if the Bredas could talk, they would say the mid 90's were good times since buzzing Bredas were all over the system.
It's so odd that in 1994, this was a common scene, but now in 2008, It's the ultimate rarity. I rode out of Greenbelt on Breda 4064 yesterday and it seemed like a blessing.
Yeah. That 3000-series buzz is gone now, as April 2008 was the last time I'd seen one of those pre-rehab. The 4000-series buzz is far quieter and less pronounced.
Those little kids who boarded the train with their parents are probably and bunch of myspace obsessed EMO makeup wearing, chick pants wearing, shaggy haired fag rockers now.
Either that or they are thugged out wearing the latest G UNIT thug apparel along with a doo-rag on their heads.
few things I wanna say about this vid
1. I was just about as old as those kids at 3:27
2. this camera has better quality than some of the cameras people use today
3. maybe it's me, but it seems like the 4000s don't buzz like this anymore (maybe not as loud at least, with the buzzing being drowned out from the nearby Alstrom/CAF cars)

This door chime is the really old school one from the 70's or 80's.

What I appreciated of the DC subway is how clean they are kept compared to other subways specially New York city's graffiti covered trains

I just uploaded a video titled, "DC Metro is a Straight Up Fucking Scam." If you ride the Metro, you ought to check it out.
