  • I sometimes think that, from Bach to Reger, composers create solo violin works mostly for the enjoyment of violinists. For example, IMO, Bach's violin sonatas with harpsichord obligato are much more melodic and lovely to listen to than the works for unaccompanied violin, with all their harsh changes. This work, IMO, is actually less harsh than Bach's solo pieces, but still not as beautiful as it could be with an accompanying instrument. It is primarily appreciated with the intellect.
