Great workout, great concepts. Question for you, for guys in their mid-30s, just ok to below average combat fitness (120 hindu squats, 80 hindu pushups), at what point worry about over-training ? Used to lift heavy and regularly got that 2 am insomnia after max lifts. Seems like this is mentally harder, but taxes nervous system less. Although could be completely wrong, as my girlfriend often points out. :-)
@tommccawley I'm an overweight (but otherwise decently fit) guy in my late 40s. I routinely do sets of 500 Hindu squats and 100 Hindu pushups in the same workout, often with hill sprints thrown in. I've NEVER had trouble with over-training using this method, even though I've got chronic joint pain from powerlifting.
BTW, I LOVE Rooney's routines. They are EXACTLY what I need to be doing at this stage in my life.
@FreedomZealot may be I'm wrong but I think that Hindu squats has bad effects on the knee joints especially when you do big reps of like 500 (shiiit of course you will have trouble with pain joint) and there is no big difference between Hindu and normal squat both of them for the quads .keep your joints safe you don't have may of them.
@enta3omry293 Hey, I appreciate your insights and your concern. I wouldn't say that my experience is at all typical, but I've found that high reps of freehand deep squats (Hindu-style with heels up or otherwise) actually *help* my knees. My joint pain is shoulder-related from doing heavy bench pressing, and I have occasional elbow problems as well. Sometimes the soles of my feet hurt a bit from doing jump-squats. But my knees are great. Like I said, take it FWIW.
@FreedomZealot take it easy on that "matt furey" bull shit! i use to follow that that waste of time stuff myself like it was a religion look into pavel tsatsouline "power to the people"
@EnochMcDonald Actually, I was doing freehand squats and pushup variations before I was exposed to Matt F.'s materials, which I found to be pretty good (albeit severely overpriced). I like Pavel T's material as well, and - as noted earlier -- Rooney's stuff, too. "Body by Fish" is a pretty good routine also. I don't think any of them are a waste of time.
Hey, where is this gym?

We use a variation for a kettlebell /sandbag class. It's a great part of the warm up. Thanks, CW
