What a disappointment to see Peter Garret sell his soul when he entered into politics. Thought he would've done so much better. Shoulda stuck with the oils. Great song with two great bands this one.
Midnight Oil is one of a trinity of bands that carried the torch of truth. I saw them at the Norfolk Boathouse, and it was a once in time moment when they sang..."It's the harbour town, where the grey battleships call home"(Steppenwolf and The Clash)
I live in Canada for the last 7yrs Be proud Aussies that we can change our hearts and minds and our out look,at our Aboringal's.Cause the First Nation People dont have that. Yes They may own Casino's cheap smokes but not their land unless it contains oil...Then they fight over who has more Money for their people,And that is the WHITE FELLA'S law out here.
us white and indigenous aussies need to unite, stop this separated bullshit, and have pride in this country together, yes the past is bad, but we can change the futture. lets be the proudest country in the world,
Two meny people in Australia think pete is going to change the world over Night imagine if he wasnt there in government.... I saw the Warumpi band at the Big day out in Melbourne back in 1997 98 ? what a gig George RIP
RIP George Bururrwanga, lead singer of Warumpi Band, mid 2007. Dynamite performer... has solo album "Baru", released a couple months before he died, is the best album I've heard in years. A new style labeled "Yolngu Funk", it's intense, melodic, rocking, funky and soulful... and almost impossible to get!!! My copy has it's own security guard.
I can't believe peter garret. Here he is singing for the history of australia and for aboriginal rights, now his government is providing over the military occupation of Aboriginal Land in the name of child abuse. Since when is the military able to stop child abuse?
And both of you are clearly helping the reconciliation process and the rights of the Australian indigenous people by searching OSX and World of Warcraft videos on youtube.
Its very easy to criticize people from your oversized computer chair sitting on your oversized ass ... what were you doing in 1986 when Midnight Oil were playing free shows throughout rural Australia with the Warumpi band to draw attention to indigenous health ... come to think of it what are you doing now????
Brilliant vid, brilliant band and fantastic live! Saw them in Fremantle, Western Australia in the early 90's. The best!!!! Pity most of the WA crowd boooed his anti-racism comments!
That's Rowena. Her auntie used to come round to our place and eat raw bugs. She was weird. Apparently one day their place burnt down and the only thing left was a mattress, inside which was a million gold dubloons. The kids stole them and melted them down, made them into a giant golden ship and sailed down the river. Didn't get very far cos it sank. Rowena lives in my town now, saw her at the pub the other week. She's grown an extra arm. Shame.
Hey, just to clarify, this comment was a late night poke at nonsensical youtube comments, but I just realised it could be interpreted differently. Great clip - love Warumpi Band!
Ive been living in WA for 22 years now even though i was born in Vietnam im happry to say that im a true aussie....i love the Warumpi band and i love the oils....y cant we have great bands like them nowadays?what happened to icehouse? ganggajang? men at work? or bands like them? :(

It is unfortunate that while having a Utopian outlook we are all political pawns for the market place of government and there is no escape.
