You know why I hate these restrictions? For the past 3 years since I had my xbox I've been playin whatever I want and my mums bin fine with it. Now all of a sudden she finds out that 8 yr olds play these and now decides to sell more than half my games and some she didn't need too which I have to now buy back with the money she got from selling them. So just scrap them all for good!
@llllJDOGllll you are 16 by law you cant play games that are R 18 content anyway. its not "just a game" or "just a movie" these things when seen for the first time do impact the mind.
so my point is that i think the blood and gore can get to kids in a different way than it gets to us. i love the ratings and agree with them 100% and to not buy the game cause you dont want it in the house for your sons sake, awsome will power and great job (again, if you didnt cave) great video and boo to under age gaming
great great great parenting (unless you broke down) i think you have a great head on you shoulders i was reading other comments saying "i can join the army at 16 and go here and go there and do this and that" but i also dont agree with that, the maturity level of a 16 year old and a 18 year old is so drastic, i mean think back to when you were 16, yeah you might have thought you knew everything but when you look back now do you think it would have been a good choice to join the army?
i think that they should not sell M games to small children's, they don't take what they see serious, what am not happy about is that ESRB does not let 15 and up buy the game correct me if am wrong Black Ops and games before had the option to disable the graphic content, plus i don't see 15 year old kids any were acting like they are on a war or anything immature. i don't see a problem why they should not sell M rated game to 15 year olds. Lets not even go on about the foul language!
Where I come from they don't even sell the game to people under the age of eighteen. I mean it's a game not alcoholic stuff or something and fuck PEGI
I wouldn't even think of buying an 8 year old black ops. It may 'only' be a game but there's still a lot of: gore, violence and swearing in it, which is something an 8 year old kid really shouldn't be experiencing or participating in. You may feel real bad about not giving it to him but there are plenty of other things an 8 year old kid can enjoy doing rather than sitting in his room playing a game where the objective is to kill each other.
i understand the age ratings but i think 18 is a little excessive. i don't think you should get it for him at 8, but 13 or 14 sure, it's just a video game, but the community online do en'alf like to swear on CoD
ok, these games tht we play r not really that bad. i mean, they're just video games!
noone cares if its changed up from the real world when they're playing them. in fact, if anything they like the changes! they just play 2 have fun and i dont even think they look at the games to find if its fro the real world! and if its not, not be able to play it?
wtf. He is 8 years old what are you thinking about? Give him a hotwheels track or some pokécards. Thats what I got at that age. I'm 17 and my dad hates that I play it lol. Of cource when you are a child you desagree, but you need to look at what influences him. Would you like your 8 year old child to be entertained by that? Read the other comments..
I think you shouldn't let an 8 year old child get call of duty black ops. I am 15 and I was not "allowed" Black ops so I had to literally beg my parents for ages and then I got it. I don't think that is right and you should allow a child who is up to 5 years younger than the age ratings to allow them to play it. I have seen some PGs with full-on sex scenes. Since when has BBFC been able to decide? I think YOU should have a look at the game first though before you let your 8 year old play it.
No, he's too young. He may be well rounded and all but getting it him will just give him the impression he can get things when he wants (in general). There are reasons things get ratings like this. People should learn t wait for things. We've become a society that has a sense of entitlement who's also very impatient and hard to satisfy because things are faster and easier to get. If we have to wait more than 2 seconds we lose interest.
My opinion on the topic is that it is up to you at the end of the day, but if it was me I wouldn't give my son an 18 rated game at the age of 8 (I'm 20 and have no children), the same way I wouldn't allow him to watch 18 rated movies except in the rare exception where I'd seen the film and felt that it was actually suitable. I definitely wouldn't be as strict as to stick to the age ratings, but I do think 8 is too young by a fair way.
Harry, first off, great video, secondly, keep saying no until Christmas, and then give it to him, you guys will have the best Christmas morning, gaming together, gaming is a fun experience, I've been playing 18+ games since I was 7, and it got me really interested in technology, also, OtherTom has a great point, I think you should buy the game for Christmas, give the kids something to do over the break.
I don't let play him have it because it might ruin his mind and It might make him swear and be fair with him and say "no this time" I'm only 16 and I worry a lot when my younger brother plays 18's and it can effect his mind.
Hey im 15 years old and currently in year 11 doing GCSE's, I do belive some games are unfairly rated e.g this one, it is very addicting for example today other than us doing exams our school was very guy deprived and even most of us that where left went home after GCSE's, Im not allowed this game and even though i find it unfair your son is only 8? Maybe buy the game for you but allow him to play it once and a while but at 8 he really souldnt be at a stage where he is ever addicted to a game
It's an 18 because it has to be. It's your decision to get it for your son or not. It's an 18 because it's got gore and killing in it. You should play it and see if you want to give it to him or not. Alot of under 18's have it.
@OtherTom42 Absolutely excellent point mate, I joined the Army at 16 and was sent to the first Gulf War at 17. I used to get pissed off a bit when I got back to England and was not legally allowed to drink in a bar. Some bars served me because they knew where we had all been, but it was still stupid. I never thought about that when making this video or writing my blog.
@OtherTom42 That is sorta right you can join the british army at 16 but i dont think they would let u go too afghan till 18 at 16-17 it's just training and home guard/front.??? :).?
A child, whether they are 8 or 16 years old, playing a game that is all about shooting people dead is wrong.
It might sound prudish but exposing and desensitising a child to that kind of thing should be avoided. Your right to join the army at 16 is useful to a nation and people who join up at that age are less sheltered than most 16 year olds, but joining up at 20 is still fairly young. Being allowed to play a violent video game at 16 does not help anyone, which is why there is a difference.
Hi Harry, my parents were cautious about allowing me the previous call of duty game due to it's 18 certificate. A friend of mines dad has played it and found no reason of why it was so high. A game is a game and it's not right that a simple FPS game can be in the same age bracket as the playboy game etc
you can join the army at 16/17 you can Leave school at sixteen and much more at that age but you would still have to wait another two years to Play a GAME, it's ridicules to assume that children who play violent games are going to be turning violent because of the games.
Personally, i agree with you that it is silly for society to put age rating on games because i'm pretty sure children these days are smart enough to know that it is just a game. but i think you should go for it and buy the game for both you and your son to play together, i can understand this game could be highly addictive and may interfere with him studying but you could limit him to times and days.
I believe games are rated as they are for a reason. I'm 14 and I don't play 18s because they are rated 18 because there is obviously inappropriate for children under that age, yeah give or take a couple years..... I think under no circumstances should a boy of 8 play a game that is meant for people 10 years older than himself
Do you realise that you keep spelling "Ops" wrong. Why do people constantly misuse apostrophes? Sorry if I am playing the punctuation police but it really annoys me lol
@stringer630 You are absolutely correct, if it is spelt incorrectly then it has to be changed, normally my spelling is terrible but my punctuation often correct. I have changed it now and thank you for the correction.
Kids should be spoilt. They face enough hardship when they get older. I think there is no harm in getting your child the game, maybe if you play along with him and discuss the difference between reality and entertainment. The real life stuff they see on the news being carried out by supposed 'role models' is a lot worse i feel.
Harry I'm 16 and I've been playing these games since 10 and I have always thought violence is totally wrong.I think they've done a survey on the topic too. Thanks Harry
I think all 18s should be reduced to 16 because their level of maturity wont get much better in only 2 years.
