My choir teacher says this is a very good example for the bass and tenors, but not for the sopranos, simply because he doesn't hear a distinct enough "tuh" for "shout, shout".. but while diction is important, I think this rendition is beautiful and well-done all the same. 5/5 for me.
I personally thought it sounded much too rushed for this piece. I dunno, maybe I've only heard slower than the norm versions and have gotten accustomed to them.
An absolutely beautiful performance! Such a powerful piece! I really want to commend you all on doing such an amazing job! I'd love to do this in one of our festivals (Bass section, ftw). =)
@singplaylaughlove9 Here in PA (PMEA) our All-State Choir has somewhere in the vicinity of 240 kids each year. The others (County, Districts, and Regions) usually have maybe 160-180 kids at each.
@singplaylaughlove9 I'm a student singing in the choir. This year will be my second round of festivals. My District Festival actually starts next Thursday (quite excited, I must say).
@ToneDeafTMD Oh really? That's great! I normally do districts every year, but I was sick for the auditions this year, so I didn't go. Whaddya guys have planned for the show? What pieces do you have picked out?
@singplaylaughlove9 Well, we have Daemon Irrepit Callidus and Sicut Cervus for our Classical/Latin quota, haha. We have Ngana by Stephen Leek and Jabula Jesu. Homeland and The Awakening, as well as Sing Me to Heaven. Jabberwocky by Sam Pottle and O, My Luve's Like a Red, Red Rose by Renee Clausen. And then we have a piece composed by our host, Francis Nesta, called The Voice of the Soul.
@mizcarney HAHA for real?! xD Girl you too soft! Hahaha thank you though, that's very sweet. I'm glad you listened to it! :D Most people fall asleep when it comes to this stuff.
@singplaylaughlove9 LOL!!! IKR? I cry over almost anything I cried when I graduated from high school two years early I had to give a speech child I could barely get through it. I cry when ppl have babies on those maternity shows and I cried over the whole Ben Breedlove thingy omg that was like the saddest situation ever!! I don't know who in their right mind could fall asleep at something so powerful like this. Plus you guys did grrrreatt!! :-)
@mizcarney I'm actually the same way. I cry during everything. I was watching The Lion King last night, bawling my eyes out. Hahaha, I think that's funny that you could hardly get through your speech though! xD I can picture you just sobbing through each word, tryna get through it!
But I don't know what the Ben Breedlove situation is... Hmm... I'm gonna have to go Google that.
And thank you! We worked really hard. I'm glad we pulled it off. :D
@shelbyleighlol Oh I doubt that. Every choir puts their own little twist on pieces like this. They may switch up the tempo, or change the key. I'm sure you guys sounded fantastic!
@singplaylaughlove9 I made it too! As a soprano II. Me and 4 basses from my school made it. This is so exciting! I haven't even gone this year and I feel like I already have a friend, plus I'm a senior too. GAH! I can't wait to make some sweet music.
@PrincesLeelee Oh that's fantastic! And you're lucky that other kids from your school made it! Haha I'm the only one from my school that made it this year, so I'm goin' by myself. So now I feel like I have a friend ahead of time! :D
I'M SO EXCITED! I just wanna go pound on a piano or something. I can't wait to get our music! I wonder what we'll be singing?
i love this song but the baritone people could have been a little louder and for me i love the baritone part and it made me sad how i couldn't hear them
@singplaylaughlove9 It's totally cool! Musicians in the Allstate Choir aren't CREEPERS! I go to Lewiston, you? And I think I did pretty well... I was the last audition of the night and I got some excellent feedback and scores, so *crossing fingers* hopefully it translates into an acceptance. What are grade/voice part are you?
@PrincesLeelee Oh, you're not too far from me! I'm from Richmond. Haha and TRUST me, I met some creepers last time. xD But I just found out that I made it again this year! What about you? I hope you made it. :-)
I'm a Senior this year, and I'm an Alto 2/Tenor. What about you?
@PrincesLeelee I think I recognize you! What school do you go to (not tryna be a creeper, haha just wondering xD) And yeah! We still haven't heard back either! D8 And I'm kinda nervous, cuz in my audition, I had only learned half of what I was supposed to sing in the Sebben Crudele. So I had to sightread half of it. O_< But my scores were good, so I'm pretty nervous... :X How do you think you did?
at "elijah rock, shout shout, elijah rock, coming up lawdy", where is the soprano 1 note. i barely hear it and i have to sing it aloud just to be able to hear the note.
love this song!! was doing a mini mission and there were four of us me and my friends james and 2 elders :) were singing this in the car!! :) sooo good. ADELAIDE AUS MISSION.
@guywhocandraw HAHA, it came from one of the Soprano Two's. It was a solo part. (Don't worry, it was supposed to be there. ;P) But yeah, everyone's always calmly listening to the song, and all of a sudden, "Wtf was that? O_O"
@singplaylaughlove9 I know that was part of the song :P just her voice sounded very "opera like" or "heavy vibrato" whereas the choir as a whole didn't. Still good though!
@guywhocandraw Ohh. I think her vibrato was a little over the top because she was so nervous. I mean, we were performing in front of quite a few thousand people. So her voice might've been a lil' shaky. But our director wouldn't let us have any vibrato in this song. Pretty much all of our notes had to be steady, because there were so many of us, that he wanted the smoothest sound possible. So yeah, her voice was quite a contrast to ours. I know I would've been nervous as hell to do that solo! xD
@crazywinter101 Ah, somebody who knows about timbre! A lot of people make a stupid face when they hear the term "tone colors". But anyways, thanks! :D
@royalecrown A little over 200, give or take a few. Haha it's the biggest choir I've ever seen as well! We were from all over the state, so we didn't really know each other at first. Haha, 200 complete strangers, harmonizing.
@DJSIMPLYP Haha I can't believe you watched the whole thing! Normally people are like "This shit's boring". But omg I know! When we stopped singing, the sound was still ringing throughout the auditorium. It was so friggin cool. :-)
HAHA I gotta have the lyrics to this? I couldn't decode it, it starts with something like ho he ha eshba eshba eshba and then someone screams for a while...........
@metallica929 HAHAHAHAHA I was taking a sip of water as I read that, and I almost spat it all of over my laptop. Now it's all over my shirt. -.- But it starts off with "Oh. E-li-jah. Oh. E-li-ja." It's a gospel, of course there's screaming! I'll see if I can find the lyrics online, and I'll stick 'em in the description.
@singplaylaughlove9 I know. Rereading it again, it didn't sound up to my standards of "making fun" of something. But today is nice homedizzle day so I'll get back at it tomorrow :)

@thisiscls Haha I'm in the front row, on the right side, in the Alto 2 section. It's probably impossible to see me. Plus, I'm only 5'2, so somebody was probably standing on top of me or something. :P

@singplaylaughlove9 Yeah, your beautiful the way you are :) LMAO, well compared to you 6'1 is tall, but I was referring to how kids are growing these days. In 10 years, 6'1 will probably be average height for young males.
@thisiscls Aww thank you! I do kinda/sorta wish I was a teensy bit taller though. :D But also in ten years, even if the average height is 6'1, the average WIDTH of a young person will probably be 6'1 as well, if we're referring to how kids grow these days! -.-
@singplaylaughlove9 Yeah, I know what you mean. I feel the same way, but I'm sure you make up for it in other areas. Yeah, I guess we will find out soon. With the fastfood industry and the way they process our food, kids are growing like trees. LOL
My choir teacher says this is a very good example for the bass and tenors, but not for the sopranos, simply because he doesn't hear a distinct enough "tuh" for "shout, shout".. but while diction is important, I think this rendition is beautiful and well-done all the same. 5/5 for me.
