C'est une execution tres differente (articulation, timbre et aussi de point de vue dramaturgique)de toutes les autres et marquee toujours par la presence artistique et meme autoritaire de Christoff.
I was really surprised when I realized that there wasn't a single Boris Christoff's rendition of Don Basilio on YouTube. So I had to make it right. :)
Well thx alot for that! You can always learn something from a different performance.
I do think he has a nice voice, keeps it more clear than most basses.. Especially in this aria!(except in the beginning it's kinda dark.. but it is la calunnia for something right?:D)
He does have some strange tempo changes.. Bit radical in my opinion. And "forgets" a line in the end? But It is a very nice performance however!:D I enjoyed it;).. So thx Ufelan! And boris offcourse:p..
Well, To name some: Nicolai ghiaurov (I like is la calunnia the most :p..), samuel ramey, alexander kipnis these are the great ones that pop my in my head.:) (and offcourse also boris christoff ;))
for more baroque repertoire you also have peter kooy..
what about Christoff´s Gluck? where is Gyaurov in that case and many others... agree, there is apersonal taste involved, but some is absolute, time is the judge
@platinump90 - Christoff doesn't forget a line--that's how it's originally written. It's become traditional to insert an extra "Si va crepar" in the coda, but he does it the way Rossini wrote it. I have recordings of other bassos doing it the same way, including Cesare Siepi!
SUBLIME!!!!

Гордея се като българка с величествения глас на незабравимия Борис Христов. Той е безценен Божи дар. Мир на праха му!

I do recall seeing another one (a live performance) a few months ago, but I think they took it off.
