  • Back in th day (1970) most heads said "TODD IS GOD" ...

We Gotta Get You A Woman - It's like nothin' else to make you feel sure you're ALIVE!

I was inclined to agree w/ th former...&...wholeheartedly subscribe to th later!

  • He's still great after all this time!!

  • I have been listening to Todd since his Nazz days. His songs, and his performances have influenced my life more than anything else. I don't know what I'll do if/when he stops performing or recording. This is a man who could have been the biggest thing in pop music, but he decided to go his own way. He is a genius who has been close to being broke on a few occasions (Rhino Records saved his life by buying his catalouge), when he could have gotten rich by writing hits for himself and others.

  • a wIZARD...........A TRUE STAR...........

  • For a smaller man.....One of the best voices I have ever heard. Really.....And the shows, remarkable.

  • @bongbro4 Todd is not as thin as he was in his early days. still looks good though and sounds better than ever!

  • This song has saved my life.

  • We are so damn lucky to still have a talent such as Rundgren with us today. As a youth Utopia and Rundgren were and still are my fav's.

  • His albums were cool, he put as many lines on them he could and he would include extra records in them with more songs!

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHH Yea

  • One of the all-time great songs.

  • Lets go back to our roots. What were we about back then? What happened?

We were divided back then and we are divided today. Back then it was the freaks and the jocks. The jocks all went to college and became managers and politicians and part of the system. Their kids all became brats.

The freaks learned how to live off the land and off of the grid and leave a small carbon footprint and their kids became really creative.

  • These word apply today. The status quo is twisted and lied to so much

that what they think is right actually hurts them and others and even

    our economy.

  • Genius

  • my dad raised me on this shit. thank god!

  • @iamkingmoonracer so awesome! I made my own kid suffer the same way! Peace and <3!

  • @dancingpinkofairy this is in no way suffering, but good parenting anyway! respect.

  • Always ClevelandRules:)).> GoBrowns.).

  • Always ClevelandRules:)).>

  • @extrastype......I not only owned the album, but had front row seats at the concert "Todd Rundgren & Utopia perform 'Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star' live." Still one of the best concerts I have ever seen; bands do not perform like that anymore. Better at 50 than never, right?

    Some how, some day.......

  • TR...THE BEST THERE EVER WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bet everyone who owned this album was doing the same thing night after night, sitting on the floor in circles putting the world right and forming who you/we are,. it stuck with me, turned my back on consumerism, i dropped out at 50 ! nearly 40 years later, but i did it eventually after trying it the other way, kids up now so bring it on ha ha ha ha. got rid of everything except my lambretta, car TV i mean everything !! its so liberating its great man..everything to charity and tip,

  • i was a lost young kid. in love with music.heard this lp and it changed my life. thanks todd.

  • I've listened to nearly every other upload of this Great Song, but, I must say - This Is All I Need! Takes me back to many nights either partying or having Intense discussions of theology while on some of the Best Owsley available! hahahahaha! Thanx! Peace Up!

  • for a second, i thought hall and oates were singing... :)

  • WOW ! Todd Rundgren is a Genius !! The music, phrasing, lyricist vocals, producer...!

My gosh, I can not get enough of him !! He wasn't commercial but, only by accident.

It was all about the music to him...! His music will live on forever!!

Todd Rundgren is a musical GENIUS that, my ID Twin brother knew about for years, and I just discovered him last year. Embarrassing! Todd IS the ONLY Music, I listen to NOW !! THANK YOU bluorpheus1988 !!

  • Todd Rundgren is a genius; this was a very powerful song for me in some interesting times...thanks for posting.

  • Hall and Oates were definitely paying attention.

  • amazing tune

  • I hear some artistic parallels between Rundgren and Stevie Wonder. One difference though is that Stevie developed and stuck with a "signature" style/brand that helped him become very famous and commercially rewarded, whereas Todd dabbled in so many different styles that I think many people simply lost track of him. Nothing wrong with that in Todd's case because I don't think he was ever hurting for money, but yeah he's not nearly as famous as he could've been.

  • @fabrikk60 I don't think he ever cared about the "famous" part. Todd is his own man. :)

  • This is a masterpiece. Listen with headphones, be surrounded by these fantastic harmonies. They're enlightening.

  • The core concept, melody, lyric and changes are really good. Fantastic actually. No one doubts Todd's writing ability. But the production is a mess. It's funny Todd can produce hits for Meatloaf, Grand Funk, etc, but sometimes takes a good song of his own with hit potential...and gets all experimental with it. Well...that's Todd for ya!

  • @ianmackenziedavis - It's just the sheer number of overdubs. He didn't have enough tracks so he did a lot tape machine "bouncing" and the result sounds wacky and cluttered. I nearly flipped my lid when I found out that he was taking non-medicinal ritalin while making this - "Wow, so THAT's why it sounds like my brain when my meds aren't agreeing with me!" Also to blame: Bearsville Studio's facilities. They got the job done, but they were always a little....off.....

  • this song got me through the darkest days of my life, thank you Todd!!

  • TR musical wizardry & vision is truly genius & human. Ask the average person who TR is & they are clueless. TR planned it that way. Humbling.

  • Well it's not so much that he played all the instruments and wrote most of the material - it could of course have turned out rubbish - but it didn't, there's a body of quality music out there of which this is my personal favourite, an anthem for the repressed, oppressed and those fighting 'the machine'. I always thought that in the UK the TUC should have had it as their anthem (or perhaps your struggling football/sports team!!!!!!).

  • Check the credits on this album. Listen to the harmonies, and all the instruments. Todd Rundgren sang and played them ALL - He was one of the first to master the overdub on master taping. He did EVERYTHING on his early solo works.

    He IS truly a genius!

  • @kenevans233 Yes Todd is a genius, I think, but let's hold on here, some of the 'A Wizard...' tracks were played by some other people IF YOU CHECK THE CREDITS, though most of it was, indeed, done by Todd and the final clutch of songs on the 'Something, Anything' album were played with various musicians to achieve a more spontaneous, band-feel.

  • @kenevans233 No arguments!

  • @kenevans233 this album still is one of the best ever!

  • @kenevans233 Sorry wrong... not a "genius"... a Wizard!!!

  • @kenevans233 yes, it's a kind of genius that's kind of hard to fathom, if we didn't have the result right here in the world with us, isn't it? love your post. the man was/is criminally overlooked.

  • @kenevans233 he is a genius, but he did not play all the instruments on this album, only guitar actually. not sure what credits you looked at

  • @CornyPoopDude It was on Something/Anything that he played all the instruments

  • @kenevans233 ..sorry, Les Paul was doing this before Todd was even born..

  • todd rundgren was criminally under-rated.great songs, crafted as soul by a blue -eyed boy.is it my name ?

  • -Sublime- harmonies.

  • Chills. I love this album, and this song is so inspirational. The cover artwork is sublime surrealism...I love that it had as much music on it as Todd could jam onto it. So much so, in fact, that the sound quality might have been affected, so Todd advised to "turn it up loud".:D

    Todd Rundgren for President

  • @KeswickPinhead Turn it up loud, but turn down the treble fader if you don't want to do permanent damage to your ears. Like I've said before, Bearsville Studios was hardly the ideal place to try to record something like this....

  • thanks Marc for the Morning song.
