I think the getting kids to talk after fighting analogy was weak and imprecise. If you have a criticism of Bush's policy of reticence say exactly why you disagree with it; don't gloss over it with some catchpenny nursery school analogy.
Berkeley glorifies be protestors of the past and yet punishes anyone that dares to say anything about the current system! Berkeley has become conformed again, it needs a new revolution!
mario, mario, you poor, misguided soul. You knew all about the "machine" baby; it can't be stopped and it stopped you a bit sooner than you ever intended.
we do..but he got muted and tazered at Virginia with John Kerry..sensorship is a bitch today moreso then ever..we are slowly losing control and any power we might of had as a people.
We can't even talk about controversial things in class, because (allegedly) we can't offend conservatives (Bushevik-types) in the class. Really, that's just an excuse to avoid talking about anything that has to do with class power or whether our economic system is fair or viable.
Mario Savio was arrested many times and beaten up on several occasions. He worked on black voter registration and other civil rights issues in Mississipi, which cost several northern white college students like him their lives. He was under constant FBI surveillance for about a decade starting in 1964.
Instilling cynicism and hopelessness in the population is a calculated tool used to keep the masses in line. Standing up for what you believe is *easier* now.
Great Discussion here.
