Ive been listening to Joy Division since they started and still the words to their songs mean a different meaning to me, as Ian said the lyrics are up to interpretation, dont try and analyse just listen to and enjoy.
Ian says "broken", guys. In his live shows, he says "lucky". But here, he says "broken". It's typical that a musician would change the lyrics during live shows. Lou Reed would change Sister Ray's lyrics all the time.
It's actually "one LUCKY prize" at the end. Anyway, listening to Joy Division is like listening to those feelings and thoughts I've inside but can't describe. Genius.
i watched CONTROL last night, that's exactly how he felt. he couldn't help the way he acted and felt, nobody understood what he was going through. i even saw JOY DIVISION, that documentery on them, and all the other band members admit that. they were all clueless. but what can u do. r.i.p. Ian
Great song :)

Mother I tried please believe me,
I'm doing the best that I can.
I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through,
I'm ashamed of the person I am.
Isolation, isolation, isolation.
