  • I liked this piece of music he composed

  • Cuán pesado...estoy de acuerdo con los otros aquí de que le serviría tomar un tempo que hubiese evocado el sentimiento belicoso de la obra.

  • Horrible!

  • Ayer me he despertado escuchando esto... O_o

    Alucinante.

  • SUPERBE!

  • I was in the boys choir when Yale University orchestra and all their singing groups did it a couple of years ago. Absolutely amazing.

  • This is so cool! :D

I'm playing this in my band... in a different version.

  • This piece is AWESOME. 5/5

  • I sort of agree, I much prefer the faster tempo Britten sets on the Decca recording of the piece's premier. This performance's slow tempo is a bit... belabored.

  • thank you...I never anticipated the dreaded "thumbs down" barrage (in fact I only saw it now). But I believe what you have stated is well articulated and more in line with my intentions (rather than belittle the piece itself...which is probably how it was taken).

  • -In response to Sriad's comment.

  • Agreed as well. The slow tempo takes away the excitement and uncertainty of the music. I feel that the brass parts should build up more into the vocal entrance at "Tuba Mirum."

  • awesome!

  • the choir i am in is performing this piece tonight and it is absolutely amazing! this is by far my favorite section of the song because it is so powerful with the orchestra and choir at a fortissimo.

  • I very much enjoy this interpretation, the slightly slower tempo. The trumpet figures in particular have a plaintive quality that is absent from the famous 1963 recording, and overall the brass is expositional, which is entirely correct - these figures are vital to the rest of the work.

  • I pefer Britten's more rushed through approach. Grimes works better the same way.

  • Entirely incredible. It's so colosal... Better yet because of Rostropovich regency!

  • that guy(bkmustang07)telling Britten's music is "weird" makes me laugh. He should say"I don't like it"rather than show his own ignorance.I think Rostropovich's conducting very convincing, what's the matter with it,bighairybaby?

  • to begin with if you would've read the comment i was responding to then you would know what i was talking about i was defending britten since the person said that the women sounded out of tune yes britten's music is weird because compared to most other composers he places alot of dissonances in most of his works so im not ignorant

  • The third guy from the left in the choir looks like Christopher Walken

  • Rostropovich should have stuck to the cello. This is a terrible interpretation of this work; sounds horribly diluted next to Britten's own recording. Also, isn't this the Dies Irae? It's labelled Tuba Mirum.

  • Lamento que no te guste. Lo he titulado Tuba Mirum, porque es el principio del Dies Irae, que está incompleto.

  • It is the Dies Irae, but it is the part of the text normally sectioned off as Tuba Mirum. The main Dies Irae comes later.

  • I've uploaded a wonderful piece for oboe from britten methamnorphoses. Go and watch it

    It's called pan

    Search pana oboe britten

  • one tuba, very depressing

  • Thanks for half of a great listening experience. So wish you could have given us the entire movement. But, I understand the rules. Lovely piece. Good choice.

  • Earlier tonight I performed this with the Yale Glee Club. We dedicated our performance in part to Rostropovich. This piece was apparently a favorite of his and he gave it, and the music world, so much. Requiescant in pace: Amen.

  • Oh my gosh! I'm in the Elm City Girls' Choir, and sang both of the War Requiem performances last weekend. Frankly, with all due respect to Rostropovich, I didn't like this interpretation very much. It's very choppy and staccato and the women are in about three different keys because they aren't singing for long enough at a time to hear each other and stay in tune. The men are very tentative and behind the beat as well.

  • i don't think they are out of tune it just sounds that way brittens music is weird he places notes close to each other a dflat on top of c natural the confutatis part was so hard for the men when i sung this peice because of all the minor sixths and thirds

  • I sang the War Requiem with the USC Choir and Orchestra...but Rostropovich's interpretation sounds so much more...crisp, in a way. Fabulous!

  • i love this requiem

  • Someone post some more of this, it's fantastic!

  • somewhat lame for the trumpets of the apocalypse!

    Listen to Gardiner's version.

  • de verdad es rostropovich?

  • is it a student orchestra? it looks like... poor rostropovich, he should have taken some vitamines!!

  • ..y la sala es la de L'Auditori de Barcelona. Eso fue el año pasado(2005) dentro de los actos del Fórum de las culturas.
