I couldn't stand Orr in his prime because and he was a hawk killer and I was a hawk fan. Brilliant greatest player of all time...supreme talent I wish I had appreciated him in his prime !!
I believe that is why they say. "Hindsight is 20/20" (~‿~) Ironically, it is where Bobby Orr ended up; in Chicago as a Blackhawk ... but never in his heart where he was, is and will always be a Bruins legend.
I was at game 7, Thomas was amazing, and it was great to see Lucic win the cup, he was a big part of the Vancouver Giants. I was also at the game (in Feb?) where the Canucks got smoked due to stellar play by Lucic. I will probably never see another cup get presented (live) so it was a really special experience.
My apologies. I didn't mean it as derogatory, he is often called the best ever... In MY 39 years of watching hockey, I just haven't agreed with his being the best ever. I hardly think that is derogatory. I apologize for my choice of words.
Your opinion -- not consensus. I'm going to try to be reasonable.
Compared to what other "consummate" hockey player since his time? Based on whose career longevity {playing despite debilitating injuries}? Based on what scoring records for defenseman still unbroken today? Based on whose job it was to score and not to score? Based on who revolutionized their position and opened the door for "nearly as good" but "not quite as great" players that succeeded him?
You called Bobby "OveRRated" -- yet have not provided factually sound evidence {stats, names, scoring records, etc.} to further illustrate a basis for such {unwarranted} derogation; therefore, you and your opinion lack any and all credibility.
Orr truly was the best....had the pleasure meeting him at the hockey hall of fame couple years ago. I've watched alot of hockey over the last 39 years and no one has come close. Nice to see the Bruins take it to Vancouver....got those chills back when Orr waved the flag in game 4, finally a great ending, been waiting since 72. Love this video, decent quality. thanks
@lylewick4 It was nice to see the B's win it. I,like you, have been waiting since 1972 when Orr took it on his shoulders to win it for the B's. I just wish three was arthroscopic surgury when Orr played because we just got to see the tip of the iceberg of Orr's talent. How good would he have been after 72-73 (when he was in constant pain from the knee [but never complained]) or in 1976?How about 78 when he was 28. He would have made Gretzky like a boob in 79-80. Damb, I miss him still.
Awesome video!! One question: What game and year was it when the Flyer took out Orrs left knee? Watching him lying on the in pain ice makes me sad. :( Best player ever, great tribute!
I want to say that injury was in March 1974, but don't quote me. Seeing Bobby in agony is heartbreaking. The player at least had the common decency to go and check on Bobby. In another clip here, Quinn knocked Bobby unconscious and fled the scene immediately afterward (a sign of guilt if you ask me).
Bobby can package a defense and try to sell it any way he wants regarding Quinn. Bobby is far too kind -- no one is buying for a minute that it was accidental. .
January 1975: Player wearing number 7 was Bill Barber (?defenseman?), who played 12 seasons for Flyers. He retired as Flyers' all-time leader in goals (420); inducted into Hockey Halls of Fame in 1990.
Bobby Orr called Bill Barber's wrist shot goal (1974 finals, 3rd pd /game 4) against Bruins goalie Gilles Gilbert, “The best wrist shot I’ve ever seen.” Barber said Bobby Orr belonged in a league of his own.
I just wanted to give you more comprehensive information than previously.
Thanks for the info! My initial thought was it's from the 75/76 season and possibly the final hit that ended Orrs career in Boston. It was a dirty hit and in "todays NHL" he would have been suspended for quite a while. Once again thanks for the replies and congratulations for making an epic tribute which deserves more views!
Thank you! It meant more to me to create it than the total view count, but eventually views will build up.
The game date was January 26th, 1975 to be exact, and you are correct -- it was likely a dirty hit (officially deemed questionable), and 1975-76 was Bobby's final season with the Bruins.
Right now I'm upset over Buffalo at Bruins game last night and all the questionable calls. Fallout from Chara on Pacioretty accident ... Buffalo really used it to their advantage. Shameless!
How can anyone not love this guy? What an amazing tribute for an amazing hockey player, and above all else Bobby Orr is an amazing person. Very well done, very professional looking with great music. Great job! Thumbs up!
Bobby has been voted Boston's biggest sports legend, beating out many other famous names for the title.
Bobby is highly revered here and very much loved -- for so many reasons ... not just for what he accomplished on the ice, but the man he has always been off the ice.
This one and your first Orr video, THE BEST BOBBY ORR FAN TRIBUTE on youtube, but I really love this one. Thanks for putting together this tribute, it's very powerful. Oh man, whenever he'd wipe out here I cringed. Getting knocked out by Quinn elbow and his noggin ricochets off the ice, it's a wonder the boy survived himself.
