Actually the Greeks hated Alexander. They saw the Macedonians as ruffians. The Macedonians waged war and crushed their neighboring Greek city states. Fact: when Alexander died, mainland Greece celebrated. It was really only a few hundred years later that the Greeks took to Alexander of Macedon since he played a major role in exporting hellenic culture.
Of course many other, specifically southern Greeks disliked Alexander and his policiies. He forcibally unified all the Greek tribes and placed pro-Macedonian parties in many Greek cities. At the same time, many Greek states aligned with Alexander and his campaign in Greece, including Thessaly and Phocis.
But to call the Macedones "foreigners" due to this fact is rather laughable. Are the Spartans non-Greeks too for receiving aid from Persia when fighting the Athenians?
@Thessalonik1 I don't believe I referred to the Greeks (ie the other Greek city states) seeing the Macedonians as "foreigners" but rather "ruffians", though it depends on how you define foreigner really. Many scholars believe that the Macedonians spoke a Greek dialect that could not be understood by the other Greeks (some scholars do go so far as saying that the Macedonians were not Greek per se but Grecianized). Nonetheless, I agree with most of your thread.
Overall I agree though, Alexander was hated by many of his own Greeks. Especially by his own Macedonians, who in fact played a mighty role in ultimately poisoning him and killing off his kinsmen (children) It wasnt until he was well dead that the Greeks started to echo his name for the sake of Hellenism

"For I (Alexander I) myself am by ancient descent a Greek, and I would not willingly see Hellas change her freedom for slavery." (Herod. IX, 45, 2 [Loeb])
Macedonians spoke Greek and their names were Greek.
Alexander is a Greek name. means defender of men.
Alexander's mother's name is OLYMPIAS.
she got it from the well-known mount Olympus of the GREEK Gods !!! olympic games you know? GREEK.
his father's name was Philippos! anyone who knows greek can get it means friend of Horses and it's a common Greek name. Skopian language is identical to Bulgarian. Skopians are related to Bulgars and slavs. not to Greeks or the Greek tribe Macedonians.
Her name was Olympias, she was from another neighboring Greek Kingdom named, Epirus. She was part of the royal-house and if my memory serves one of her brothers arranged the marriage with Phillip so both Kingdoms could reach a harmonized relationship.
