Hmmm..... interesting exercise. I can understand practising such landing techniques if you want to land on a particularly tricky shoreline. However unless you have a plastic boat I wouldn't do it. Glass boats don't like to be bashed onto rocks.....come to think of it neither do humans.
You are right, unless if the kayaks belong to Nigel Denis - the owner of NDK. You can see him in the video. He is the instractor of the exercise. It was done while training for 5 stars BCU in his school in Wales. Anyway, nor the kayaks neither the paddlers were damaged. You may treat it as a safety test made with vehicles.
We - a group of 4 Israelis, did it while trainning for 5 star BCU (British Canoe Union) in the facility of Nigel Denis who is the owner of NDK (familiar kayak manufacturer).
In the very last part of the video why was the kayaker trying a re-entry on the landward side? AThe kayak could have pinned him against the rocks?

Fascinating excersize.
Been there , done that, fixed the kayak.
It was nice the cameraman never added any comment.
Looked hard on the boats and paddlers.
That looked like an unforgiving spot to be training all the same.
