  • "incinerates the front row" - indeed

  • @2fromcenter for incineration of the front row, try dubstep.

  • What a great classic. Plus, he talks exactly like Deacon Palmer from King of Queens.

  • A la batterie :Daniel Humair et Guy Pedersen à la contrebasse.

  • A la batterie :Daniel Humair

  • @ConsumerOfNothing I think it says at the end if you watch it all the way through.

  • zbalder14...Trane and Brecker would not agree with your statement...Dex chops allowed him to play whatever he was thinking...Dex was a true master...

  • the way dexter plays is just so musical... yeah trane, brecker, and other cats may have better chops... but Dexter develops his solos like a true master... when he plays, you listen!

  • @zbalder14 lol @ the idea of "better chops." At this level there's no "better," only "different." Plus, if you trace the stylist evolution of both Dexter and Trane you'll see that their playing influenced each other at various points throughout their careers. Trane was listening to Dex, then Trane started evolving the music and Dex was digging on Trane. Listen to their respective recordings of "Body & Soul" and you'll hear it, too.

  • @Saxydude05 That's why Dexter is one of the most interesting musicians in jazz history. He was the bridge between Lester Young/Coleman Hawkins and Coltrane/Rollins.

Both Coltrane and Rollins learned from Dexter, then they started pushing the envelope. Instead of getting left behind, Dexter jumped on board, learned from the young guys, and continued to progress, like Saxydude said.

There's just no finer musician than Dexter. He's one of the greats, but gets overlooked for some reason.

  • was this before or after he quit drinking and drugging?

  • @ConsumerOfNothing xD. Now I realized it too. and I read your comment on that. Damn, I need to start reading.

    Sorry about that!

  • @ConsumerOfNothing I'm not 100% sure, but it should be:

George Gruntz (p), Guy Pedersen (b), Daniel Humair (d)

  • @HCL991 Pedersen et Humair,c'est certain,je les ai reconnu....comme ils étaient à l'époque...tournée avec Martial Solal...

  • Saw him live in 1977...what a classy sound & personality! The guy was around 6 ' 7" tall, reminded me of a sophisticated Joe Louis...he was drinking LONG glasses of gin & lemon and played a version of "Autumn Leaves" that lasted 30 mins. Thank you for this video.
