Prosperity only exists in big cities in Vietnam like Hanoi and Saigon, but 80% of Vietnamese population live in poor, underdeveloped rural areas. While corrupt communist leaders like Prime minister Nguyen tan Dung and President Nguyen minh Triet are multi-billionaires, a regular Vietnamese earns only $1 per day. More than 200,000 Vietnamese women from poor families, many as young as ten, are working as prostitutes and sex slaves in China, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Korea.
I went here the past summer. It's still quite a poor country but the GDP rate is astounding. Give it a decade and hopefully it'll be a different Nam.
The things I didn't like were the street vendors having to sell lottery tickets etc. and restaurant and small store stands are gonna constantly attack you for your business.
Sorry, but what has this got to do with Vietnam? Not to mention, si le 11 septembre était un travail sioniste, faudra m'expliquer comment et pourquoi. Vous êtes pas un peu parano, par hasard?
damn i never saw this much of Vietnam( im Viet) I went to Saigon and my mom got robbed......I just remember Vietnam as a terrible place but a beautiful one when the people are not on drugs robbing people.
You went as a tourist, I presume? Obviously a "Viet Kieu", so an easy target. I'm sorry for your experience, but don't blame Vietnam and the Vietnamese. Tourists are targets for robbery in every country in the world (try Italy, where even the official money exchange offices rob you or the US where tourists are easy targets. Of course in poor countries like VN, India, etc, it can be worse). As to drugs, did you go around NY or LA lately?
It annoys me when people generalize one incident to a whole country and people. Especially Vietnamese who visit VN as foreigners and complain because they're treated like tourists. Not, mind you, that people don't get robbed in their own country - then they don't blame their countrymen in general. I especially hate it when ethnic Vietnamese complain about their ancestral home.
In every country people get robbed. Even in the US of A, where u live. I dont say it's you and your mom, but I have heard many times Viets from USA are 'showing off' more in comparising with other Viets when visiting Vietnam.
I always try to blend in with other Viets as much as possible. Try it and you'll feel (I hope) like you're a Viet from VN and not just an outsider(tourist). I really feel great, at least I do :) Peace
you made many nice presentation. Unfortunately, every nice version with pictures of the nice side of VN, you also post some pictures of the poor or ugly side of VN. I hope you will make a version with all pictures with the nice side of VN so I can show my friends the good side of VN. Cheer!
OH thanx so much for your comment, but I think that it's not an expression of poverty, i just wanna show the charming beauty with wildness. I'll try to do it better, thanx so much! ^^
