  • In the immortal words of John Lennon."Immitation is the highest form of flattery".

  • This version of Catch The Sun always plays in Party City, where I work. I didn't know it was a cover until I looked it up. I love both versions, but I like this one just a liiiiittle bit more.

  • he took the piss right out of the Doves, I hate this cover, they play it in CVS stores for christ's sake. I hope Jez and Andy are making a pretty penny off this at least.

  • I hear this song at like every fast food restaurant I go to, after a while it just stuck. It's not bad at all though

  • I appreciate JC bringing this song to another audience. His rendition was certainly competent and his vocals were particularly well performed if the piano melody was a little too light spirited. That said, this version doesn't hold a candle to the Doves original.

  • Well, he's surely really good... but this version lacks the pathos and "suffering" of the original by Doves... that's my opinion, at least... awesome track, tho'

  • @papovavirus EXACTLY. this is melancholic bull shit. This guy sings like he's never even stubbed his toe, or felt any sort of emotional response to anything. music for the medicated masses...

  • Happy Birthday Jamie Cullum (August 20)

  • 11 dislikes? Well obviously they live in the Antarctic.

  • @TheElliesaurus I guess that was bc he sat on the piano ...I'm just sayinn

  • @TheElliesaurus Or they are grinches...:)

  • Love the little groove on the drums.

  • This is the song I have to hear every goddamn day at the Supermarket I work at. They play it EVERYDAY and I hate it. The tone of the song is awful and so is the voice. Little did I learn that The Doves version of this song was actually decent.

  • wow . why are there so many hate comments . Smmmmmhhh.

    both songs sounds good.

  • His voice is so beautiful and he plays piano, I'm in love!:)

  • Ok never mind, I listened to the Doves original version again and I like it too. Both versions to me can set a very nostalgic mood.

  • I heard this version first before knowing who sung it espeically who sung it originally. I like this version better than the Doves original version though. This guy seem to slow down the song a bit, if that makes any sense. The only reason I actually like this song is because I worked at bed bath and beyond and at least 5 times durning my shift this version played, DAILY. Brings back memories of working with some awesome people.

  • In terms of quality, the cover feels neck in neck to Doves' original. And I'm speakingfrom someone who puts "Catch The Sun" in his Top 5 favorite Doves song of all time.

  • I don't know him but I do love the original, so of course I'd be biased if I was going to compare, but I won't. I will say is he has great taste and there is some really nice elements to this version which makes it swing and breathe a whole new way. If this turns people on to the Doves too then well done lad!

  • It's average, VERY average. I wonder what the Doves thought?

  • @klewieblu How is this average? No "average" musician would be able to arrange this piece like he has.

  • How many of his own songs has this guy actually made?? This is awful.

  • This is unbelievably bad. Apparently, this guy knows how to sell himself well, because his music in unlistenable.

  • NO! BAD! WORST!

  • he should be at the grammys!

  • Just when I was wondering where the White Stripes guy had got to...

    ; ) TGF

  • 4 people are insensitive to music

  • He did a serviceable job here. I like the Doves version, too.

  • leave it alone jamie it doesnt work m8.doves rock

  • I listened to the dove's version to see what the fuss is about and I turned it off before the song was finished! THIS is the better version!!

  • this is just a funy, DOves is a diferent world..

  • Raw voice.. Good chorus.. piano solo at the lastpoint kinda sucks.. but overall great song.. need some Violin/chello backs i think..:)

  • Not the complete crucifixion it might have been but nowhere close as the original classic. If you want to hear good jazz covers, try Brad Mehldau - he did top versions of Radiohead's Everything In Its Right Place and Paranoid Android! Or you could always check out Richard Cheese......

  • Haha I love this... Awesome pics, too. But I dunno why everyone's trying to make it seem like this sucks because the "Doves" did it first. I first heard it in the Jamie Cullum version, and I immediately knew it was a cover, because the lyrics were far less articulate than Jamie's lyric style.. People need to stop hating. The Doves are OK, but Jamie Cullum is probably one of the best mainstream musicians today, as far as musical talent and skill on piano. He's amazing.

  • The Muzak where I work added both this and the Doves version at the same time, about 4 months ago. I never heard either one in my life, but when I heard the Doves I would have sworn that was the Foo Fighters. I think I like that one more actually. Theatrical > Irregular beat. Actually, theatrical > everything.

  • Think he cant do covers? Listen to his cover of Rihanna's please don't stop the music!

you will not be disappointed! best cover ever! Better than the original! Go Jamie!!!!

  • Who did this song first The Doves or Jamie Cullum?

  • @TheBigTurkey24 Doves

  • I like this one better, just for the pacing and the chorus.

  • @ou812771

retard. you don't cover a band because you want to copy "the feelings or mood their music puts you in", but because you're redifining it. jamie cullum made a piano-jazz-version out of it and if someone likes jazz better than rock, then why not let him be? those are two completely different songs and the fact that you are saying that one is better than the other makes you the one who doesn't know jack about music

  • i personally like this version better, especially because of the piano

  • @ou812771

dude you are the one that behaves like a child. you shouldnt insult me just because you have a different opinion. im not gay (but i dont get why that matters), lack of knowlege in music? i dont think so, bad taste? maybe but then pls define good for me and yes i like most of his covers better than the original so what? hes a very talented musician and i love jazz.. finally the hitler thing... stfu u dont know anything about germans except for their past... uncivilized

  • catch the sun!

my mouth has no other opportunity than smile when the refrain comes!

  • He did a really good job of this, I especially love the bass line on the piano.

  • king of cover

  • I happen to like both versions for different reasons. I I like the original because it brings back some summertime memories of me in high school. The Jamie Cullum version I like because of its jazzy interpretation.

  • Fcuk man this is only for the boy band lovers n pple who fancy him.......Doves everytime u cant beat it!!!

  • @TheTishuk jamie cullum is hardly a boy band.. i think its just personal opinion

some of his covers r better than the originals and some arent

but i enjoy a lot of his jazzy interpretations but not cos i fancy him, hes not exactly amazingly good looking

  • heard this "MUZAK" in a department store... well, at least it may encourage people to buy the original version of this song on DOVES album LOST SOULS... which is AMAZING from beginning to end! do yourself a favor and just get the entire doves album... this doesn't come close!

  • i think jamies version is much better than the orginal.

  • exactly

  • @keszey

Gah, I heard it in a department store today!...and I was like, "That's not fucking Jez Williams singing!" This cover made me a little sick.

  • Yep

  • I really like this.

  • very cool

  • Ok... got to be the DOVES eveytime me thinks.

  • Doves are millions of times better.

  • Bingo... People that think this desperate housewives' guys cover is better really do NOT know ANYTHING about music... it is a sad sheep mentality cultivated by bad network television

  • well said!!!

  • Catch the Sun, before it's gone, here it comes....It never comes, crying in the sand...

  • Love this! Still prefer the original, but this is pretty awesome!

  • i like this song ^^

  • nice song!!! :)

  • btw 5 stars!

  • I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve Jamie Cullum! The song is great!
