Fukin amazing band who are still banging it out. They were outstanding in glasgow last week and even with an inferior sound system blew motorhead off stage.......never give it up Charlie.!!
saw the subs in 1978 at the lyceum - lay on the stage underneath nicky garret pissed up on cider - brilliant band - still going - saw them about 5 years ago at the underworld in camden - harper left halfway thru to pick up his pension - arf arf - proper punk
saw the subs in june this year charlie haper is the man mingling with everyone chattin with everyone proper down to earth geezer if you dont like charlie harper then basically your a cunt
i wasnt at the gig but i recognised a couple of the blokes who we always used to see at the subs gigs i loved to see them live at small venues because im an eletist fucker!!
I thought that this was the London Lycium gig, 15th July 79. (You got a free 12" single recorded there with the 'Crash Course' album.) If it was that gig, I am in the moshpit somewhere!!
i dont cae about video qaulity you either like it or well you don't. Plus what is punk anyways. It could be me making music with a hammer as far im concerned.
saw the the uk subs live at "the brickyard" in carlisle july 8th,awesome show, charlie mingled with the crowd and i got a photo with him, great venue, great bar staff,i even got to buy him a bottle of grolsch, fantastic.thanks to the band for a great nite
@blade0954 that was a great gig man i was early and the band were gettin the gear out of the van so i asked if they needed a hand it was fuckin great saw them settin up and doin the sound checks and everythin the guys in the band are absoloutely spot on. brilliant night youve got to love the brickyard.
great post...wish someone would put all the songs from the lp Another Kind of Blue on youtube...especially "All I Wanna Know"... Thanx for the upload.
@giutar24 played there many a time, small rectangular sweaty shithole just like the wardour st Marquee in London, but that's what made it great.I remember the whole right side of the venue was a bar and the stage size was just the right size.great memories
saw them in cardiff top rank (who remembers the top rank) maybe 1982-3 happy days. The glass ashtray some cunt skipped across the heads of the punks pogoing at the front hurt like fuck. happy days

I love you British guys with your "This ain't punk, that's punk, that ain't, this is" - man, it's like the 80's all over again. I thought Tim Yohannon of MaxRnR put all that to bed with his well-intentioned but ill-conceived fanaticism. Such an American habit and I thought you hated us! Tell you what: Anything that gets 'high' society's panties in a twist, we'll call that punk, eh? And it's gotta be under 3:00 minutes. Love you guys! Hugs from the USA!
na i agree with you i enjoy lots of shit english or amaerican punk i dont care what came 1st or what! and halfe the things peopel call posing i dont agree with its just modern punk e.g greenday i dont liek all the old scholl is the way forward
I will never forget sitting outside the front of the Lyceum with all the Punks/Skinheads et all...and the SPG Police in their Riot Vans watching over us...what a buzz! And Charlie Harper if you ever read this, did you ever find your contact lense...and was it true that Caroline Hyatt was the girl you sang about on Stranglehold! Remember Sue Morgan, Fergus, The Tooley Brothers and the Medway Crew!?
I saw this band when I was just 15 in 1979 at the Lyceum Theatre in London...I think the video footage is off that gig, though, its hard to tell...or it could be the Music Machine in Camden?
The exploited the uk subs and dr. know . That was my first show 1984 or 5 hard to remember the date. but the show was soooo "FN" good. It was the last show ever at that place as well. good times
haha no way man tht sucks, i dont know them all that well bt i heard a few songs a cupple of years ago , its nt every day u can go see a good really old punk band so yeah shud be a riot :)
I saw these guys when I was about 14 years old in CBGBs New York city around 1981, nobody believes me but I know what I saw. It was my first exposure to punk. They came on stage and the crowd started slamdancing and at first I thought a fight had broken out, it scared me, then I got it. It was just like this video!! Freaking goddamn incredible!
my first kontakt was in 1977... I was 11 years old and my neighbour came back from london... He looked strange and listen to that sort of music I never heard in french TV... and there we are now... PND
@Edhallick I remember that show well. I remember the guitarist found a way to literally hang upside down from the ceiling while they played. I think he was probably the only person ever to attempt that trick from the crumbling rafters of that hellhole. It was a great night.
Saw them at HIgh Wycombe town Hall, Guldford University and Crawley Leisure centre. Wycombe town hall was amazing, the students bar at Guildford university was destroyed, looked like a bomb had hit it,unbelieveable. Crawley leisure centre was marred by skinhead violence. They were great live though. In 1979/80 when i saw them they were amazing....
when it came to thought provoking lyrics and stage presence the uk subs took some beating, charlie harper and the lads were/still are, among the best this country has produced long may they continue.
i went to see the subs and the damed at winter gardens before it got shut down after the subs had finished charlie got in the crown to watched the damed what a ledgend
I met Charlie at a gig in stoke newington about 15 years ago, drunk cider with him and talked for ages about all things punk. He's a true hero and a punk god.
got charlie to sign my subs t-shirt at gig in brighton earlier this year ! fuckin chuffed ,he was cool and didnt mind me hasseling him, good show too,he still rocks !
This is how I remember them. Saw them a bunch of times in the early 80s in NYC. One memorable night at CBGB stands out. They were grace in the face of chaos.
vanquisher just looked at your profile you have a dance music video with blokes dressed up as school girls kids? what the fuck is that all about now that is lame
