The appropriate action by the Police officer would have been giving the EMT his police business card with his number and facilitate the situation. Later, the officer discusses the ins and outs of procedure (EMT and Officer) over a cup of coffee and a dozen donuts. Yes. I know. It makes too much sense.
Police need to keep themselves in check when dealing with the public, and I think that EMTs/Paramedics in particular should get way more legal rights when dealing with emergency situations such as this.
The thing is, if the paramedic actually leaves the patient it's negligence. So the cop was actually telling the paramedic to do something illegal by trying to arrest him. Basically it boils down to the fact that far too many cops like to abuse their powers like this. This sort of thing isn't an isolated incident and I am sick of hearing about these cases.

All the officer had to do was give the EMT a card and release the EMT. Later, the officer can explain to the EMT what the EMT did wrong. However, there seems to be a much bigger issue here.
This is so shameful. The police officer should be suspended permanently for his actions. If the paitent was in cardiac arrest she would most likely have died. Paramedics should be treated with respect, they save lives.
If the cop's emergency was such a bigger emergency it made no sense for him to leave his emergency to pull over a ambulance on duty that had a patient inside, and he ignored them flat out when they told him over and over we have a patient.

They have released the dash cam from the cop car...and this cop was completely out of line. The paramedic that came out told him that he could follow them to the hospital and take care of any issues there after transport, but the cop wouldnt give up. This trooper needs to be disciplined. Simple as that. If the driver did anything wrong, the trooper should know better to continue in to the hospital and have his ego boost there.

I don't fault the police for having to enforce the silly laws of politicians you voted for. I believe as with any group, the personality difference would vary greatly between each individual.

The appropriate action by the Police officer would have been giving the EMT his police business card with his number and facilitate the situation. Later, the officer discusses the ins and outs of procedure (EMT and Officer) over a cup of coffee and a dozen donuts. Yes. I know. It makes too much sense.

The thing is, if the paramedic actually leaves the patient it's negligence. So the cop was actually telling the paramedic to do something illegal by trying to arrest him. Basically it boils down to the fact that far too many cops like to abuse their powers like this. This sort of thing isn't an isolated incident and I am sick of hearing about these cases.

All the officer had to do was give the EMT a card and release the EMT. Later, the officer can explain to the EMT what the EMT did wrong. However, there seems to be a much bigger issue here.

being a paramedic myself I would pissed if a power trip cop pulled me over while I was transporting a pt. Especially since the cop finished his call first then felt it professional and ethical to pull over a transporting ambulance for a bs complaint. They have released the dash cam from the cop car...and this cop was completely out of line. The paramedic that came out told him that he could follow them to the hospital and take care of any issues there after transport, but the cop wouldnt give up. This trooper needs to be disciplined. Simple as that. If the driver did anything wrong, the trooper should know better to continue in to the hospital and have his ego boost there.

The police seem to forget that their role in society is to protect and serve. But most seem to have "Judge Dread" mentality. This applies to many police around the world, but the american police force in particular. A man was just recently killed in Australia for being tasered 28 times. An elderly women was tazered recently multiple times in the US. Was she a threat? Police officers need more than a mere "suspension" for these offenses. Especially when it could result in loss of life.

The final thing i'll say about it is this, thinking of the patient first, if it were you and you called emergency service to get to a hospital right away because you needed some form of help, and knowing how time is critical, if you were the patient instead of her would and you had to wait like that would you want to have gotten to the hospital sooner if it meant the possible different between life and death?
Regardless of this particular case.

I have should this video to my brother who is a captain in the police dept and he said that they would fire the officer for his miss treatment of a emt.
