  • To all who are watching this video, I recommend reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma", by Michael Pollan. What Erin says about products v. real food and how corporations churn out ultra processed products with an extra long shelf life that don't nourish and make you fat in order to make more money is explained in detail in that book. It will open your eyes.

  • Great advice

  • Awesome FYI! THANK YOU for what you do! =)

  • Hi Erin, what are your thoughts of the Master Cleanse? Should I do that to kick start my weight lost plan?

  • protein shakes? Good or bad?

  • @iheartnight

Bad. They're not real food, but an amalgam of synthetic vitamins and minerals wrapped up in chemical ingredients to enhance appearance and flavor. Stick to real protein: that which comes from nuts, beans, and lean meat.

  • very wise words miss. can you do a video about your tattoos please?

  • Smart woman. Im listening to you completley.

  • type in "give me 4 week abs" in the top box and click on the video with hearts in the title to learn how to get a 6 pack in 4 weeks.

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • What about meat that is packaged? Lunch meat? The thin deli sliced meats

  • Awesome video. I love it!

  • I love your sleeves!

  • Awesome video. Kkeep up the good work...awesome!

  • What about Cheese, Pasta, Joghurt, Buttermilk, Cacao, Wine? Do you see these as food or already a product?

  • im stuck and dont want to stave myself how do i keep lossing weight . I was 294 im at 280. any tips? ohh and I eat real food. portion control worked a little i walk over 10,000 steps a day. thank you!

  • Nice job on the video looks good. When you have time come visit my channel!

  • Thanks, I like the simplicity of it..and it`s pure logic....My only problem is my mind will find a way of overeating..per example..I`m just thinking well potatoes is food and fresh..umm i will cook them with olive oil (or canola oil) that is also food and then bake them with abit of salt or spice..that is also food...now I`m sure if I eat 5 potatoes that I`ve transformed in chips....I won`t loose weight will I? if so I' m going to make some right now...If not what can you suggest as a good treat

  • Thank you for the great reminder :-) I think I will use it in my next weight loss session (see my channel for when I upload it) - I especially like the 2 ingredients thing - simple and makes lots of sense :-)

  • You are sexy! I love your tatoos. Are you in Eben's program?

  • I am a lover of "sauces/ condiments". If I am only eating "food" that nixes them out of the picture, any suggestions as to what I can do to get my flavour fix?

  • great info and amazing ink.

  • You shouldn't lie to people. You can't lose weight without cardio. Whether it's sex or swimming, the fat's not coming off. Period. That and calorie counting. You can eat rice, for example, but if you eat too much, you're going to get fat.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You can be a documented expert, but if you get stuff like this wrong, you clearly have no business teaching people how to lose weight.

  • @dgnmwn You SHOULD do cardio, not just for weight loss but also for general health. But a change in diet alone can make you lose weight if you eat really poorly to begin with. Simply not eating that crap will shed some weight off. The whole purpose of cardio in weight loss is to burn calories. Real food contains fewer calories and thus, it emulates the cardio.

That's not to say you shouldn't do cardio, BECAUSE YOU SHOULD, even if you aren't looking to lose weight.

  • I'm sorry to be critical, but this is ridiculously common information, aka, common sense.

  • @0scJohnson0 I agree, it is, but you'd be surprised how many people don't eat real food but eat processed food, fast food. It's easier, it's cheaper and it's quicker. With real food you need to spend a lot of money and a lot of time to prepare it, as well as be able to cook. With the other food, you can slap it together on a budget. I myself cannot afford to buy healthy food all the time and sometimes need to get food from those inside aisles she's talking about.

  • @deenikeem Healthy food is much, much cheaper than crap food. Go buy some apples, bananas, green beans, tuna. Do you have any idea how much a bag of frozen veggies cost? Less than 2 bucks usually and you get, what, 8 or 9 meals worth out of it. The only healthy food I've been having a hard time justifying buying are the white chicken breasts.

You can go get a big mac meal for 6 bucks or you can get 3 or 4 meals worth of good healthy food for 4 bucks. What's cheaper?

  • @Archlvt Yeah, you have a point, but I don't eat frozen vegetables or any type of frozen food for that matter, so maybe I'm still paying more money per meal than some others are. If you'd like to share your secret of how you can get a healthy meal for $4, I'd be delighted to hear it!

  • @deenikeem Get a package of whitefish for about 2 bucks, and you only need about 1/3 of the package. Get a bag of frozen corn for 2 bucks, you only need about 1/8 of the package. Get a box of rice for 2 or 3 bucks, only need to use maybe 1/14 of the box. Get an apple for about 30 cents. That's $1.42 for a full, well-balanced meal, and as an added bonus, the meal has enough protein in it to qualify for a body-builder's meal.

  • @Archlvt

I can't say that you are wrong but I know how much a bag of apples is at my non-fancy grocery and they aren't that cheap. I wasn't speaking of a fast food meal being cheaper than making your own at home. I am talking of making your own food at home by cooking out of a box/bag/can rather than from scratch. For instance, you can buy a jar of spaghetti sauce for about $1.30 if you go generic and aren't concerned with gmos or corn syrup, etc. Or to make your own you need to buy

  • tomatoes, basil, onions, garlic, cream. Sure, you can make more with those ingredients than you would get spending $1.30, but if you have a weekly or monthly food budget to follow and work full-time then, most people don't have time to plan out everything they will eat down to the tiniest thing..As such, a person could say it all boils down to how important it is to you, but I know people like this and I can say they'll chose quick and cheap over healthy and time consuming. Other factors are

  • being overlooked in this whole push to eat healthier.

  • @0scJohnson0 Depends if they're in season or not I suppose. There are cheaper fruits out there besides apples though, that's not carved in stone. And if you're shopping entirely for price, there's always the reduced bin. Before I had any money I used to get reduced fruit, very little difference between that and the fresh stuff. Usually a bruise that you cut off or something. No big deal.

  • @deenikeem And also, if your grocery store is more expensive or you want bigger portions for whatever reason, there's pleeeenty of legroom between $1.42 and $4. What you need to do is plan your meals EXACTLY in advance. If you say "im hungry its time to eat" You're going to reach for crap food. You also need to buy things where you can get several meals out of em.

And if you're wondering, frozen veggies ARE better than "fresh" ones, as the frozen ones are frozen an hour after being picked

  • @deenikeem Actually now that I think about it, frozen veggies are usually only $1.39 a bag, and an apple wouldn't even come to $0.30 when you consider a bag is only a couple bucks and you get 8 or 9 of them usually. The fish could be a little more though depending on the type you buy. I like Haddock, Cod, and Boston Blue Fish personally. Wow I really went on with this for a long time.

  • @Archlvt Haha thanks for the tips. I guess as far as vegetables go, it's just my personal preference... I generally don't like the taste or quality of frozen vegetables and am much more used to fresh, garden picked vegetables as that's what I ate growing up, so now that I'm older, I opt for the "fresh" ones when given the choice. But it's always worth a second try I suppose!

  • @deenikeem One big tip I have for you in that department is to choose a bag of all the same frozen veggies, like JUST corn or JUST peas, because for some reason, the mixed veggies never have flavor, and have significantly fewer nutrients in them, especially protein. Most people tend to overcook their veggies, and ruin them by putting salt and sugar in the water.

Peas taste fantastic if cooked right and without anything added, very fresh and gardeny, like fresh green beans.

  • Check my profile for free diet help , i lost over 50 pounds in 4 months using it.

  • Check out the BBC low carb documentary. It's the same idea in more depth.

And aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, bicycling) helps regulate your appetite so you don't want to eat a lot.

    Best wishes everyone!

  • Thanks for the tips this is a great video.

  • What about wheat bread ? Yes or No ?... it's processed ... is it good or bad ?

  • i'm not a big fan of bread, unless it's sprouted like ezekial.

  • @ErinHuggins What about rye bread? Don't know if you're familiar with this, but we eat it in Denmark, and I believe it's quite healthy ...

  • @FrkCorinna "healthy" is a very, very vague term, and doesn't always equal ideal weight-loss food. Bread you especially have to be careful with.

  • thanks i'll try this and I'm only 13 and I have been struggling but now I know how to loose weight thanks

  • Great video! But I have a question: would you consider yogurt to be healthy?

  • I never thought about that ... I'll try this :D

  • This is so true..Without extercise too..youll feel good and naturally move more :) This really is the number 1 weight loss tip...

  • im totally not eating chicken! i heard it makes your boobs grow and i don't want that. |: and im just not gonna eat at all because im fat.

  • never really thought of it this way..

    thanks!

    Aaron

  • I stumbled across your video looking at a better way to lose weight and i think u are totally right. I eat alot of protein like chicken, and canned tuna especially after i work out. But i was wondering if im trying to lose weight (about 40 lbs) and still trying to build mass what kind of diet would u suggest. Thanks any info would be greatly appreciated. Ps love those tattos

  • i just saw this! i'd read the metabolic typing diet by william wolcott.

  • i have a question wat if u r a picky eater and dnt like most of the food that is from mother earth or the manufactured food to!!

  • well, there's nothing left to eat at that point! if you don't like any food, then the best choice is real food.... so at least you'll be healthy :)

  • I put food in 2 category dead food and food that is alive. Really appreciates your efforts. But I think people doesn't have time to cook or they are too lazy to do that. The best don't even cook just wash the broccoli and eat it. just clean carrot and eat it simple.

  • people do have time. time is just an excuse people use to validate their bad habits. time management really means self management. it's easy if you prepare, spend sunday planning meals for the week. cook food in advance so there is food to eat during the week etc... yes, agree that simple, clean, food is best! totally right on :)

  • Erin- Great work. It's elementary, and an immutable truth. How do you feel about the paleo theory of diet and nutrition?

Also, to all you out there in YouTubeland who want to drop a few pounds......drink water! Lots! Our bodies' signal for hunger and thirst are very similar, so we often eat when we're just dehydrated. I'm tuning in to learn some more pilates moves. Thanks for sharing, Erin.

  • thank you. yes, for the most part i really like the paleo diet. however, i would never just tell someone to eat that way w/o first doing a metabolic analysis. your diet depends on your individual autonomic nervous system. if you have a sympathetic dominate ANS then you NEED more carbs and grains will actually balance your ANS, making you healthier etc... many modern advances have done damage, but as a carb type a cooked grain would be healthy for you, depending on the grain, non gmo etc.

  • Ooooh! It food NOT product? Brilliant. I quoted you a bunch of times and put this video on my blog today (TheSkinnyOnline) so my readers can see that there his HOPE!!

  • far out! keep on helping to spread the good word :)

  • I don't have a problem with weight and I eat the way you say for the most part. I have a question. How do you feel about whole wheat pastas and breads? Should they be eliminated completely? I have to say that pasta a staple food for me. I am a carb type and have a love affair with it. Is it unhealthy for me?

  • well, some nutritionists say no wheat at all. but my feeling on it is "how do you feel after you eat it?" if you feel good, energetic, and satisfied then eat it. and if you are carb type then you of all people should be ok with it :)

  • Great video!

  • Thanks. Awesome Video.

  • this sounds great! i just entered college, and there is no way i am going to gain the "freshman 15". if anything, i would like to lose 15+ pounds...but the cafeteria food provides nothing but junk. so i eat the junk, and then work out, burn off about 700 cals. and i still seem to be gaining.

so ill try just eating chicken and fruit and veggies, and let you know if i see results after thanksgiving :).

  • Yes! That's perfect. Just eating simple meals like chicken breast and veggies is going to transform you. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

  • i'm in the same exact situation. hopefully we'll both be successful over thanksgiving. good luck!

  • i luv it! real talk! eating a salad and a nectarine!

  • THANKS GREAT VIDEO...!!!

  • Hey dear, I posted a video for you about your potato question. Erin

  • I have thought of this so many times, if I'm eating fruits, if I'm eating vegetables, meats, and things like POTATOES!! That I would lose weight, because it's.....REAL. People basically said that was dumb, and eating potatoes wouldn't help me. But that's my down fall...I love potatoes. Things I can't live without...CHEESE AND POTATOES!

Please tell me I'm not insane?

  • wow thanks erin..i love your tats =]

  • WOW thanks that is so simple. I am going to try.

  • Very good video...I'm working on doing just that. Thanks!

  • I'm a former huge junk food eater who has segued into an almost "whole, natural food" style. Not 100% yet, as I still don't like to cook and get sucked back to convenience. But we've switched to mostly simple (ie, fruits, veggies, organic meats and poultry, organic dairy, whole grain rice and breads (often organic). It's a process. :) But I think that there are two main tips. Yours: whole, natural, real, unprocessed foods. And this: portion control. Those two guarantee healthy weight loss!

    M.

  • This was easy to understand, easy to follow advice. Thank you!

  • Awesome! Keep it up. It's so important to eat real food. Your body will transform before your very eyes!

  • Yes..i am trying to do it! I try to eat beans and rice and cooked them by myself...but it is just difficult for the rest of the foods like chocolate etc! but i am still motivated!!!!(i hope) thanks Erin..i wont give up!

  • Wow! I am so greatful for your lovely comments. Thank you for watching and the kind words.

    Cheers,Erin

  • You are amazing and inspirational. Sound advice from a woman who clearly walks it. If you have MySpace, please add me. I would love for you to hear some of my Studio Recordings. Namaste - Mark Dante Troiano (Love the Tattoos btw)
