I wish I had watched this when I was little. I watched it for the first time recently, and had mixed feelings. Despite that, I feel like it could have made my childhood, especially with that music. Music like this made my childhood anyway, that 70s style classic rock, with the synthesized voice and all. I wish I had seen this years ago.
My favorite movie from my childhood. I watched it again recently and had chills all up and down my spine. It somehow has just as much power as it did when I was a child. Pretty crazy when you think about it.
i stand here looking at the ocean as the first rays of morning sun come shining through the morning clouds. seems like a gift from the gods to be here at the perfect start of the day. all i can think about is wanting to share this moment with someone who would enjoy this everlasting day dream. genna strachan gen_s6@hotmail.com
@kaycie92 I know what you mean. About ten years ago I bought Galaxy Express 999 ( an oldschool anime) and I was hit by a sense of deja vu. My mother made a comment that I used to watch Galaxy Express 999, and other animated movies, on the PBS and public access channels in our area when I was four. I enjoy watching the old animated movies even now as they are of a much better quality in animation and plot than the crappy stuff these days.
I'm 15, I saw this movie when I was around 5 years old. I love it so much and when my friends laugh at me for liking something called 'The Last Unicorn' I laugh with them because they don't know the true beauty of this movie and book.
@wolfstar96 I remember seeing an ad of The Last Unicorn in a magazine. It looked all girly and kiddy in the ad, so I assumed it was the same when I watched it. As a kid I as surprised and scared by it lol. And now I see how beautiful as well as mature it is.
there are some kidz cartoons on tv of which i really think they're not good for children. cosmo & wanda for example. i would never let my kid watch something like that. though for adults it's sometimes entertaining
This movie has remained with me since I saw it when I was 4 with my dad (he died months later). I loved it when I first saw it and every since. So many memories are connected with it, now at 33, 28 1/2 years later, I never get tired of it. Thank you Peter Beagle and Amerika and everybody else involved.
I remember my family renting it on BETA when I was 7. I'm turning 35 soon and I've bonded with people over this movie my entire life. I want to hug all of you!! xx
I just want to say that i too feel this movie is a part of my life, The book is amazing, i have a 1972 paperback which (besides my kids) is the only thing i would save if my house were on fire. Never knew it affected as many people as it has. LOVE the last unicorn.
I don't understand why movies can't be made this way anymore. Today children movies have to be all happy and sunny with no meaning to it at all! Movies like this have true meaning and beauty. The music and the landscape are gorgeous and the message on finding yourself has really shaped me growing up. Now kids movies are all mindless dribble and if its to deep or life changing parents start freaking! I'm 14 and I will always love this, Secret Of Nyhm, The Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and more.
I brought this movie over to my friend's house for her party since my other friend's younger sister was there. Something she could watch. They all called it a stupid movie and only started to watch it when mother fortuna (I think that's how you spell it) and her house of horrors came on. But the video stopped working for some odd reason so we didn't get to watch all of it. It's amazing how people can just criticize things so fast.
Yeah don't worry, I bet a lot of people I know would criticize it too even when I was younger (and I'm 26 this year). But the best in quality often gets overlooked, I think. This movie is brilliant really and Peter S Beagle is a genius. Maybe they will change their minds when it is re-released (and maybe properly promoted I hope!) within the next few years :)

It's these kinds of movies that remind me how back in the day children movies took children serious. They can understand loss, isolation, travel, sorrow, regret, all these things. They understand it, and on symbolic levels. They didn't hold the childs hand because they didn't need too. Movies today see children as frightened little creatures who have to be shelter and coddled constantly. Last Unicorn is a scary film, but children like that. They like the challenge of something like this.

@detroitos Oh yeah! I caught the last unicorn fuckin the second to last unicorn...& it was amazing!.....lol....(rolling with the punches) seriously though; I love this fucking song!
@Straphis2001 Glad you saw the humor in my comment. The muppet that was moaning about it was likely raped by a horse or something. BTW I like this song too AND the movie.
"Horizon, rising up to meet the purple dawn. Dust demon screaming, bring an eagle to lead me on.. for in my heart I carry such a heavy load, here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road... walking Man's road..."
Most beautiful lyrics in the world. This is honestly one of the only films that makes me cry. It changed my life, no word of a lie.
I use to love Unicorns as a little girl I use to believe in them and pretend I was one lol this is my favorite childhood film lol wish I could go back at least one more day lol
mad goosebumps, brings back memorys, it hurts, somehow. i miss being a child and sitting and watching this movie. id do anything to go back for a day.
@TheRennyMac I'm feeling the love! I'm a youngster, a mere 32, but when America sings this song, it makes me want to put unicorn posters all over my bedroom again, wearing purple Velcro sneakers and a side pony tail as I skip in unison with all of you... <3
I remember watching this movie when I was little. So we played it for my four year old son that has Autism, he loves watching this movie and it just so happens to get him wound down so he goes right to bed after!!
this song and movie brings me back to a time when i wished i was forever young.and i didn'nt know anything about the world.don't forget your youth!! live in it every chance you get
Great Movie, But you miss so much of the story by not reading the book. Yes they took about 2/3rds out to make the movie. Too bad the live-action adaptation has fallen into a TBA for production.
How I wish more movies like this were made... Reminds me of my childhood when I absolutely adored this movie to the point where I had every line memorized by heart... <3
Whatever happend to movies like this, Balto, and Spirit Stallion of the Cimmeron, and The Secret of Nymh being produced? I wish more films like this that connect us back with those childhood beliefs and memories would be made.
@TheScrewball1982 One of my favorite movies ^_^ No problem. You never see movies like that anymore, there's no passion put into it anymore, it's all just for the money or something. This movie, Watership Down, The Plauge Dogs, The Secret of Nymh, Balto, I love them because there's such meaning behind them, such passion that makes your heart ache when you watch it because you can connect with it somehow.
@LaurenAndLawliet 100% totally agree. Kids' films lately are so cynical. Where's the magic? Not every story has to have inane pop culture references. This is a truly amazing fairytale. An ancient form of story. I miss this kind of thing
I love this movie; this was my favorite song from it! Thanks so much for posting this video. I used to watch both The Last Unicorn and the Rankin-Bass version of the Hobbit when I was a little girl. This brings back great memories. Would this be available on dvd anywhere?
@KarenCrutcher1 Everywhere! Barnes&Noble & even Target & Walmart! It's always been 1 of my fav's! When I was little, my mom taped over it 1 day & I had a hard time forgiving her-up 'til about 10 yrs ago when I found it on DVD! Funny thing was--no1 ever knew what I was talkin about! I had a lot of those...The Little Prince, The Dark Crystal, The Littlest Mermaid (Hans Christian Anderson style), etc...Now, I can finally find & share my childhood memories w/others! I love it! THX YOUTUBE!!
This was my most favorite movie as a child, as i grew older i always asked my mother about it, she said she didn't know what I was talking about, i guess bioys weren't supposd to love unicorns or mermaids.
I saw that movie when i was a small girl and i still love the movie. It makes me happy. I hear the songs and i just feel allright and remembered of good old times. This is a epic song with so much love and freedom in it...
We bought this movie a few days ago at walmart (We lost our older one) And I was sooo pissed when I found out they changed certain parts of the movie. Like blocking out the word damn. Wth? Fucking kid friendly bullshit.
@Imorah The movie was excellent. I being a guy and alot of guys liked this movie cause it was basically about death but the unicorn represented something that could not die.
QUESTION: is there a NEW and an OLD version of the movie? i think, this one looks older, but more beautiful than the version on my DVD. Is the new version a "overpainted" one?????
@Berlinerkatze The movie may have been "digitized" for re-printing. I have the soundtrack to The Last Unicorn....I special ordered from Europe. You gotta love "America"....
i don't see why people don't like this movie it's a classic and i love the music and the storyline.....it's sad but good at the same time my favorite person is the cat and the skeleton
@Dezzy8909 .....those people who do not enjoy the story of "The Last Unicorn" are soulless human beings who should be purged from society..............and maybe.....just maybe....they should probably burn in some type of 16th century Italian interpretation of hell......y'know, to be on the safe side!!!
Does anyone know where to get this song? I can't find it on itunes, nor on any legal mp3 version. If anyone knows a legal way of getting this song please message me.
does anyone get chills with the first few seconds as she's standing on top of the ridge looking out to the sun slowly rising ominously and coldly over the hills? It is definitely not a warm, hopeful sun, but it signifies something new about to begin...
I kid you not. Major major goosebumps each time. The big minor chord and the first line: "Horizon...rising...up to meet the purple dawn..." X)
@anodyne94 I have goosebumps throughout the entire film, but especially so during this two minutes. I have a hard time watching it because it brings back so many memories, but it's such a gorgeous, unbelievably magical film... amazing.
The man who wrote this is not being paid by the movie company and is in DESPERATE NEED OF HELP! The company even refused him when he offered to take less money just so he could have a little something to help his family out with his dying mother's hospital bills. PLEASE CALL AND WRITE!
i used to watch it all the time when i was little, even my parents loved it. i dont know why people dont make movies like this anymore. i think the focus is on education rather than emjoyment.
This would be a good song for Sam and Frodo, wouldn't it? Somebody should do an AMV of that... I'd do it myself but I'm super busy... and I'm always afraid this copyrighted stuff will get taken off... anyway... great song... great movie...
@MayuMayuzumi you can watch the movie (both in english and german) on youtube. Just search "The Last Unicorn part 1" (or "Das Letzte Einhorn part 1") on youtube and you can watch the movie in parts :)
this movie is so good and beautiful its not only for kids, older people like them too.and the singer from the band(AMERICA)who sing the last unicorn songs have a great voice.
I love this freakin movie! This is such a great film. Great songs. Great writing. Great story. It's such a sleeper flick for those that have never seen it. If you haven't, go snag it. Definitely worth the money.
@buffwhite ...i agree with u with that...just wish i had the money to get it....i grow up with this movies...a funny thing i had not seen this movie for years and out of the blue the songs can into my head and i was singing at work...lol,,
My mom got me into this when I was a little nugget, and now that I look back on it I still could watch it over and over again. It's so beautiful, and you don't get nice and peaceful movies like this anymore. [Sighs dreamily]. I miss the good old days sometimes.
@IchigoX122 Yeah I was like 8 or 9 when I watched it. It was like just something adults had to do at the time. Maybe they wanted us to watch something pure before the perverted movies of today.
@IchigoX122 my mom (shes thirty four) loved this movie when she was my age, (im 14) so my grandma got me this movie and instantly i loved it. i watched it at least 8 times the first day i got it, and i still watch it ever now and then. todays cartoons and movies r so retarded >:(

This was my most favorite movie as a child, as i grew older i always asked my mother about it, she said she didn't know what I was talking about, i guess bioys weren't supposd to love unicorns or mermaids.

We bought this movie a few days ago at walmart (We lost our older one) And I was sooo pissed when I found out they changed certain parts of the movie. Like blocking out the word damn. Wth? Fucking kid friendly bullshit.

In the german version many of the songs are translated and covered. I hate that, the originals are way better.

QUESTION: is there a NEW and an OLD version of the movie? i think, this one looks older, but more beautiful than the version on my DVD. Is the new version a "overpainted" one?????

Dezzy8909 1 year ago
@Dezzy8909 .....those people who do not enjoy the story of "The Last Unicorn" are soulless human beings who should be purged from society..............and maybe.....just maybe....they should probably burn in some type of 16th century Italian interpretation of hell......y'know, to be on the safe side!!!

The man who wrote this is not being paid by the movie company and is in DESPERATE NEED OF HELP! The company even refused him when he offered to take less money just so he could have a little something to help his family out with his dying mother's hospital bills. PLEASE CALL AND WRITE!
