The newer billet turbos are the way to go now. Little quicker spool, and more power on the same size turbo. Billet67 with a dbb cartridge can put out over 800whp with the proper setup on a Supra.

@Charcoal300zxTT I don't have the car any more, but I loved that turbo. I have no idea if turbo technology has advanced, so there may be something better with more top end and better spool but at the time the 67 was the "goldilocks" turbo for the MKIV.

@tommieboi707 The MAPECU was great. Very cheap and the base map got me started. I can't recall if I tuned any on my own prior to dyno tuning, but after I saw the tuner working the cells, I can't believe I didn't give it a shot myself. Especially with the wideband in the car. The MAPECU has a follow me function where it highlights the cells in the fuel map that the car is actually utilizing (as you rev the car out). You can easily tune with that. This was just the 1st gen device too.

That sound is the blow off valve opening and closing multiple times to release the pressure. If this was used on a setup with less overall airflow, it wouldn't need to open X times. Do a search for compressor surge, it isn't the same. Wastegate noise? Ever hear an open wastegate? It basically sounds like all of your excess exhaust gas (no longer spooling the turbo, as desired boost has been reached) is shooting out a 1.5" diameter pipe straight out of the bottom of your engine bay...which it is.

Compressor surge = Air being forced back out the compressor fins. This usually happens when normally driving as the BOV doesn't have enough pressure to open.

In the vid it's the BOV.

Some people still don't understand that 12 psi can flow more air than 16 psi theoretically.

personally i don't really like the evo too much. they are only fast if you get an aftermarket turbo on it and up the boost. Even at the stock PSI of 17 the turbo charger that comes on it is shitty
