Oh hey, here's this SNES rom dump of Super Mario All-Stars (with no Super Mario World), a music CD that only plays the same music we've heard dozens of times before (no remixes or arrangements), plus some minor sound effects, and a booklet that doesn't tell you anything you didn't already know about Mario games. Thanks for supporting Mario for 25 years, guys! Lol suckers.
Play the actual console on an HDTV and then play this on an HDTV. Then tell me the games graphics haven't been upgraded. It's just upscaled not "True HD" but it still looks amazing as opposed to the Genesis which i own a model 1 and 2 of on an HDTV. There is no comparison. This collection is amazing.
A good reason why you would want to buy this if you don't plan on spending more buying virtual console games from XBLA or PSN. This game is a great buy, I play the games thinking im going to stop in 5min but I end up playing alot longer; even the games that I have played in the past.

This collection is a no brainer for veteran gamers. I grew up with SNES,Genesis,N64 and Play Station. The 80's and 90's were golden years for arcade and home console video games. I think some Genesis games not included on the disc should be available on the PSN and XBL in arcade or console port form. Games like Road Rash 1 and 2,Out Run,Spider Man,X-Men,Mortal Kombat 1-3,Jurassic Park,NBA Jam T E,Zombies Ate my Neighbors,Earth Worm Jim, and Earth Worm Jim 2. Just some games I want.
This is great value and an outstanding collection and by far the best presented combilation I've ever seen. Big thumbs up to Sega for doing this.
However, people will always complain about games left out - and so will I.

Every Sega Genesis collection always includes the same exact games though. They never really add much new. I have a psp version of a genesis collection and after reading the list of games on here almost all the games on there are the same. They did not include all the best genesis games by the way. They missed A LOT! Some of my favorites actually. Beavis and Butthead, Zombies ate my neighbors, Tiny toons adventures, Toy story, Blades of Vengance. Of course they are too stuck up to include them.

Space harrier is a disaster in every wqy... and this is sad! the voice "GET READY" sounds like a chipmunk and the music is WAY off!! it sounds like they intentionally changed the notes to minor chords. just terrible! now on shinobi, the color of spiderman to purple. tm,

The orange box is mostly likeable for teamfortress 2. And I never even mentioned hl 2. Sonic is horrible now and all sega can do is recycle some good games.
The orange box is "recycling" games aswell. It's just a re-release of Half Life 2, it's expansions, Portal and Team Fortress 2 - just like Ultimate Collection is a re-release of 40 Mega Drive games.
In my opinion, Valve are horrible and all they can do is recycle a unstable engine (Source), and mod the same game over and over again, and claim they are new games.

The Source engine is unstable. It's known for crashing at simple tasks and being uncompatible of rendering graphics properly with common hardware. There is a reason why other developers don't license Source, and use Renderware instead.
I'm not bitching about graphics, I'm just pointing out that your arguement is flawed when you complained that SEGA re-release games, then said Orange Box was better (which is a collection of re-released games).
They have piss-poor customer service. Espicially with Steam.
Steam, as the ONLY portal to all your paid content, is down for maintence far too often, and is glitchly.
There V.A.C. system bans people too often for false-postives, making them unable to play ALL the games they paid for (which is extremely unmoral and barely legal).
And lastly, they rehash old games and call them new. Left 4 Dead 2 anyone?
Don't ignore the first thing I said, I said that most games on the orange box where released on it. ONLY hl2 and episode 1 is re released. And besides, it's supposed to be a good deal at a great price. Once again you seem to hate valve a lot, sega on the other hand I hate, but atlaast hey can keep releasing their good games.
I'm mainly buying it for streets of rage 3. That alone saves me money. But I'll also get sonic and knuckles, sonic 3d blast, altered beast, and others that I didn't get. And it will be a great backup incase the cartridges I have or the genesis breaks down.
Not possible, as the emulation process is a lot more difficult (hence why we got PC ports of Sonic CD, Sonic R, Panzer Dragoon and so forth).
That and several source codes for Saturn titles were lost a long time ago. Which is the driving reason why we will never see a port of Panzer Dragoon Saga, unfortunately.
The point I was making wasn't about CD and Saturn emulation. It was a reply to your comment about the source code for these games being lost. If there are ROMs available, which there certainly are, then they can be used. And I have heard recently that Sega doesn't allow its newer developers access to the source files or even carts of its games. I don't see however what point you're trying to make by saying since we have PC ports, why have a PS3 or 360 port?
It's easier and more practical for them to use their own source codes, especially if anything needs to be altered.
What I was mentioning about PC ports was that games like Sonic CD, Sonic R and Panzer Dragoon were ported onto other home consoles by using the PC ports, as opposed to the original versions.
As for Sega not allowing its newer developers access to source files, it contradicts their reasoning for not going with ROMs as their reason for not porting games like Panzer Dragoon Saga.
This guy doesnt seem to understand what "upgraded to 720p means". It doesnt mean the source resolution is any better. It means the output resolution is 720p which will clean up the look nicely. And the games have smoothing options so this guy is really just plain wrong about this.
Why did they put the Genesis version of Alien Storm on the collection instead of the arcade version? That game alone would have made it a must have for me.

totally agree also on the lack of XBLA while it sucks, dude these games are all about the couch co-op, hearing someone cry when you accidentally punch throw them in streets of rage is ok but seeing them howl and punch you in the arm is what the old skool feel is all about
It would have been perfect for me if the have added King Of The Monsters 2 and The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers game. I would haved play as Super Geon and the Dragonzord for hours.
This game is in full 720p. Just because its a 2-d 16 bit game, has nothing to do with wether its high definition or not. You can have high definition atari 2600 games if you want. these games look alot better in 720p then in 480i.

You're kidding? They can still incorporate it into the game. They did it with Sonic Mega Collection and SMCP... Guess since even though it IS titled "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection", it's not a Sonic game compilation/compendium.

Yeah... On the bright side though, if you are on Xbox 360 you can download UMK3 off of Xbox Live Arcade and play it there, it has online as well. I play it all the time, loads of fun. Costs $5.

alright, i've also been getting emails about that comment. Yes, it does RUN in 720p, but what I meant was that while there are some texture updates to the graphics, they aren't very noticeable. And that you shouldn't expect anything mind-blowing when you hear that all the games are in "HD"

No, the disc, as far as I recall, doesn't spin after install. Not only that, but the install size is rather small now (under 800MB I believe.)
By the way, this is a good review, and at least it's not a 'real' Sonic collection!

The orange box is mostly likeable for teamfortress 2. And I never even mentioned hl 2. Sonic is horrible now and all sega can do is recycle some good games.

The orange box is "recycling" games aswell. It's just a re-release of Half Life 2, it's expansions, Portal and Team Fortress 2 - just like Ultimate Collection is a re-release of 40 Mega Drive games.
In my opinion, Valve are horrible and all they can do is recycle a unstable engine (Source), and mod the same game over and over again, and claim they are new games.

team fortress 2, portal and episode 2 where released ON the orange box, episode 1 and hl2 are released yes, but they have a new build and it looks better than a lot of games still.
and whats this? your bitching about graphics? not the fun factor or anything? because you know, valve should focus more on the engine instead of taking their time with the actual game play.
and if the engine is SO unstable, why so many mods for it? just lucky i suppose.

The Source engine is unstable. It's known for crashing at simple tasks and being uncompatible of rendering graphics properly with common hardware. There is a reason why other developers don't license Source, and use Renderware instead.
I'm not bitching about graphics, I'm just pointing out that your arguement is flawed when you complained that SEGA re-release games, then said Orange Box was better (which is a collection of re-released games).

And yes, I do think Valve are a terrible company.
They have piss-poor customer service. Espicially with Steam.
Steam, as the ONLY portal to all your paid content, is down for maintence far too often, and is glitchly.
There V.A.C. system bans people too often for false-postives, making them unable to play ALL the games they paid for (which is extremely unmoral and barely legal).
And lastly, they rehash old games and call them new. Left 4 Dead 2 anyone?

Don't ignore the first thing I said, I said that most games on the orange box where released on it. ONLY hl2 and episode 1 is re released. And besides, it's supposed to be a good deal at a great price. Once again you seem to hate valve a lot, sega on the other hand I hate, but atlaast hey can keep releasing their good games.

Sonic Jam on Saturn was a response to Saturn players wanting Sonic game on there badly selling system.
Nintendo approached SEGA wanting a re-release of Mega Drive games on Virtual Console.
Backbone approached SEGA wanting to re-release a group of Mega Drive games on 360 and PS3.
AtGames approached SEGA wanting to manufacture Mega Drive Plug and Play consoles.
If you do your research, you'll find the majority of Mega Drive re-releases were comissioned by other companies.

I'm mainly buying it for streets of rage 3. That alone saves me money. But I'll also get sonic and knuckles, sonic 3d blast, altered beast, and others that I didn't get. And it will be a great backup incase the cartridges I have or the genesis breaks down.

Not possible, as the emulation process is a lot more difficult (hence why we got PC ports of Sonic CD, Sonic R, Panzer Dragoon and so forth).
That and several source codes for Saturn titles were lost a long time ago. Which is the driving reason why we will never see a port of Panzer Dragoon Saga, unfortunately.

Genesis emulation and emulation for the SEGA CD and Saturn are completely different processes.
Again, hence why Sonic CD has been emulated via the PC version, as well as Sonic R.

The point I was making wasn't about CD and Saturn emulation. It was a reply to your comment about the source code for these games being lost. If there are ROMs available, which there certainly are, then they can be used. And I have heard recently that Sega doesn't allow its newer developers access to the source files or even carts of its games. I don't see however what point you're trying to make by saying since we have PC ports, why have a PS3 or 360 port?

It's easier and more practical for them to use their own source codes, especially if anything needs to be altered.
What I was mentioning about PC ports was that games like Sonic CD, Sonic R and Panzer Dragoon were ported onto other home consoles by using the PC ports, as opposed to the original versions.
As for Sega not allowing its newer developers access to source files, it contradicts their reasoning for not going with ROMs as their reason for not porting games like Panzer Dragoon Saga.

This guy doesnt seem to understand what "upgraded to 720p means". It doesnt mean the source resolution is any better. It means the output resolution is 720p which will clean up the look nicely. And the games have smoothing options so this guy is really just plain wrong about this.

This game is in full 720p. Just because its a 2-d 16 bit game, has nothing to do with wether its high definition or not. You can have high definition atari 2600 games if you want. these games look alot better in 720p then in 480i.

Good video, but this collection has a few classics missing , like GUNSTAR HEROS, CONTRA HARD CORPS, STREET FIGHTER 2 HF,ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3, PUNISHER , THUNDER FORCE series, DOUBLE DRAGON series just to name a few , i hope they include these games in a volume 2 ( probably lisensing issues determine what games they can use on the collection)

Yeah... On the bright side though, if you are on Xbox 360 you can download UMK3 off of Xbox Live Arcade and play it there, it has online as well. I play it all the time, loads of fun. Costs $5.

alright, i've also been getting emails about that comment. Yes, it does RUN in 720p, but what I meant was that while there are some texture updates to the graphics, they aren't very noticeable. And that you shouldn't expect anything mind-blowing when you hear that all the games are in "HD"
