If the documentary videos in this series were going to have a specific "point", then I wouldn't have made them in the form of abstract music videos. I can definitely see how looking for a point in this could be confusing!

But I guess the closest thing to a "point" I can think of is that it might not be a good idea to take the culture and beliefs (such as beliefs regarding gender roles) of ones society forgranted without reflecting on the underlying human anthropological motivations. Or not.

Yeah I use lots of clips in my videos, especially music video/documentary types like this and "Celebrity". In this exact context, I'm not too worried about copyright, but because of the subject matter, for other legal reasons, I took special care to use footage of people over 18yo and not show their faces.

At first the music that came to mind was the piano music that plays on the Eyes Wide Shut trailer, but that's too well known and linked to that movie, so I figured the next laziest thing I could do was look for other weird works by the same composer, Ligeti, which is what I did! The other music is Zelda music, which I can't resist putting in lots of my videos. :-P

As much as a female I could be pissed off with this video in some way I more wonder if it was up to show that people do somethings without realizing what theyre doing and that what they do though may seem small and confined at the moment can give someone else great power. Well, it's definitely not a one message video. If anything, it's about human nature and gender roles, at a more fundamental, anthropological level, and not at a societal level, which sounds more like what you're referring to. The main personal inspiration for me I guess was that ostensibly "sexy", exhibitionist dancing, by its very nature, pretty much always fails and therefore allows itself to be a metaphore for other failures in how societies resolve gender roles. Also, boobies jiggle.

I have to say I enjoyed you replay including you proper use of anthropological, having been an Anthropology major in school. I did take a lot of different messages from this video. I supposed I wanted to say that I saw why some women would view it as vulgar whereas I first viewing it thought more on the placement of your national geography tight audio bites to be informative and hilarious. I think women make videos like these for many reasons.

Just one being for the attention that they want it to bring not always realizing what attention it may bring aside from that. Almost everything we do is a mating call in some form or another and a way to make ourselves seem a particular way to get what we want or keep away what we dont. I suppose in a lot of ways thats were the saying, lifes a stage came from because were always on in one way or another. We dont have feathers or bright natural colors, we have booty dances instead.

lol yes, we have booty dances! The YouTube booty dances often seem like such an awkward exercise though, with the solitude, bad sound/picture, turning on/off of the camera, and anonymity. I guess that was what was my first inspiration. It's hard to remember, cause I edited the title screen and saved some clips in 2006, left it alone for 2 years and then just made the video last month.
