Yeap was the lap record till 8/10/10. Stood for 7 years despite improvements in machinery an amazing feat and was beaten by Craig Lowndes in a one hour practice session. But the fact that Murphy's lap was done in a top 10 shootout when the pressure was on makes it so amazing and no one has done a better time in a top 10 shootout or qualifying session although that might change this afternoon

the problem is the newer cars (holden and ford) have less aero on them, so they create a little more drag up the straights, and also they have different diff ratio's now as well compared to then

yeh, sorry if it sounds confusing, but they carry more drag up the straights due to the aero of the cars to slow them down a bit. the VE's were losing 0.5 seconds on Mountain and Conrod Straight per lap last year, so for qualifying they did a brilliant job IMO

@kennymiesta The real difference is that for he following season (2004) they increased the weight of rods, pistons etc (rotational mass) to stop the engines spinning so quickly! Sure they still rev to 7500 but the speed at which they accelerate has been slowed in order to build a bit more longevity into them; ie to reduce costs. For the doubters, read the specifications of the engines for 2003 and for 2004 onwards.

this car started out as the vx #2 hrt car that mark skaife won the 2000 champioship in. originally hrt and purchased by kmart racing and updated to vy specs. it then destroys the brand new updated 03 hrt vy's at bathurst... go figure...

i'm a nascar guy by heart, and im starting to enjoy watching the V8's as well. I think it was this video that got me hooked, that's one hell of a lap. Tried Bathrust on rFactor.. pretty tricky lol. I wish the V8 Supercars were more available here in the US on TV. For now, this is all I have.

To me, no comparison really, I enjoy both.
