I see you found the actual date code on this fan. I never knew some from that era had the fully open wagon wheel hub. Oh, on that burning oil smell, the plastic motor in my Superlectric has that often. But it's normal I believe.
Nice re-video of this fan! And boy is it hard to find one of these that still has a handle, as those Galaxy handles don't usually last! :( Also, are you sure this was made during the 1983-84 period? Because some of them from '84 still have the older style "one piece" motor mount, while this one has the later two piece mount. This is probably an "84-85, even though the blade has the open hub and you'd expect one from that era to have the later closed version of this same hub.
