Mickey had to rob the bank otherwise victor maher (white haired guy) would give the tape, which had evidence that danny had been involved in a robbery, to the police - he saw mickey was going into the 'vault' so he gave albert the tape. The fake vault allowed the team to keep both mickey and danny out of jail while taking something from the real vault.
