As long as the feminity that's apparent in flash gordon and the shadow and the rocketeer and so on, are in this film, I'm ok with it. It won't be batman, but it'll do ok. However, I'd like to see miller veer a bit from black/white polar opposities, like good vs evil, and go deeper like in blade runner where the good guys and bad guys have done their share of bad. It was the connection with the hero or the villain that made that film important, not the good versus evil warfare.

The watchmen is my favorite graphic novel of all time and the spirit is my favorite comicbook series of all time. I think its unfair to compare the two because they are almost as opposite as two comics can be. The watchmen is a pyschiological thriller with deep character development. The spirit was never meant to be any of that. Will Eisner made a comic to be fun and visually interesting to look at. Compairng the two is like comparing a Dr. Seuze book to War and Peace.
