The reason the Cylons destroyed Caprica is because their more human members of their society acted out of vengeance just as the humans might have done if the tables were turned during beginning of the series. The writers repeatedly make reference to these types of events (not this one specifically I do not think) to convey to the audience how much the human type Cylons are really like us.

Without exception, it was awful. I agree that they had good stuff at the beginning, but they totally didn't have a plan. A lot like LOST, actually.

the cylons destroyed caprica at john cavil's behest (AS HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON) because he was inwardly self-loathing, conflicted, and felt horribly betrayed at the flawed (as he perceived it) nature of his creation and existence, and wanted REVENGE against his creators (the final five). the destruction of the colonies was just icing on the cake, but it was the final five he really wanted to punish. it's like being able to bomb God because your life sucks :0)

I felt BSG become abit complex, and hard to follow, Prefered seasons 1 and 4, but found 2 & 3 alittle boring, except the arrive of the Peagsus

I think you guys need to watch it over, it seems you missed alot, but focus on seasons 1 and 4 and the final. The whole story arc is about the battle between man and his creations, the machines. In the end we find that machines guide evolution away from "man" to "hybrids" and finally totally to "machines". Don't you see that after another 150,000 years the machines are still winning? The "Head People" are still guiding the events.
