I'll never understand why Anouk + her first band didn't hit it BIG back then.

She does, in my view, have one of the best female rock voices and got deep under my skin with her first two albums (and this song).

Much has changed since then, sadly, though I agree that she still rocks in live performances.

At first time when, I've seen this clip, I said "Hey, she looks good!". Then I realized there was a band playing behind her with real instruments. Then I could hear her voice and since then I am an Anouk-fan.

And thanfully she can sing live even better!

She's one of the few artists I prefer the live version to studio.

I think Europe has different sounding singers. America has good singers, and I will agree that everyone is copying everyone.

But music in itself is like fashion, people wear what's in style which is the same type of clothing, right? Music is like that. musicians play and sing what the audience finds 'cool' or 'in style' at that time. But I do like European music. I love Electronica. Even though, I'm not sure its European exactly.

When European musicians come here, they are just like every other newbie. they are not stars and they have to work their way up the ranks just like everyone else. This could take one,two, maybe even three albums before this happens because slowly people find out about the artist. Its not until then that radio stations will play their music. Then, the artist has to promote, promote, promote on popular tv stations/shows like TRL and Good Morning America. Its a long and sometimey process.

European musicians aren't the only ones that have trouble. There are American Musicians who also even though they may have a good sound, sometimes they just don't make it. I don't know why really. I think its promotion. In America, you have to promote, promote, promote. Everybody has to know that you have an album coming out.

I think that's the biggest issue indeed. In the US music has been commercialized more than here in Europe. In Europe you can just release an album, do a tour and it'll work. In the US u need to spend way more money on promotion.

And apart from that, the European market is much easier to do in steps. Lots of different countries, so you can conquer them one by one.
